Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Lyra is about 2 years old and looks to be a shepherd/heeler type mix. She was found running loose, held for the LEGAL stray hold, and never claimed. She is very shy but becomes very loyal and loving companion once she's comfortable and secure. Lyra has been vet checked, spayed, chipped, and her fee is $150. Lyra has been adopted a couple of times and returned as she just hasn't been able to find the right fit yet. She is incredibly smart and learns quickly. However she does possess quite a few of the intense traits of a herding breed type dog. She is laser focused and needs both mental and physical exercise. She would love to have some type of job to do and would probably be a great candidate for agility training. She does tend to bond quite closely to one or two people and can be protective and territorial. Lyra needs an ADULT only home. She needs someone who is experience with herding breed types and their quirky personalities. She would love a home that is ready, willing, and able to continue with her training and helping her gain confidence. FENCED YARD needed. Lyra has done well with well mannered MALE dogs who respect her space. She does enjoy playing with other dogs once she's comfortable. Cats? Most likely a no. Cuddling is one of her favorite things. She's also in need of a home in which she won't be left alone for long hours. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications can be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventative, and spayed or neutered.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 13, 2025, 3:41 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Boo, aka Blue (his former owners used both) was originally adopted from us back in 2021, when he was around 2 years old. Unfortunately, Boo had to be returned to us in December 2025 after 4 years in his home, through no fault of his own. His owner had some difficult life changes and it was a sad situation for all involved, so we're grateful that the family reached out to us for help. Boo has been completely vetted, chipped, and his fee is $125. Boo is about 6 years old now and is a medium-sized dog who could be a husky/cattle dog mix, possibly with other breeds like border collie and rat terrier. He very much loves to be with his people and is affectionate and attentive. He would do best in a home in which he's not left alone for long hours. He is still pretty active, enjoys his exercise, and is also content to hang out and cuddle. He has done well with other dogs and kids, but he's not the best fit for cats. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. Story
Darling is a smaller cattle dog/Shepherd mix born in January 2021. She came in as a stray with another dog. Darling gets along ok with dogs smaller than her, but not so well with bigger dogs. Darling is very smart and aware of everything going on around her. She loves people and loves attention. Darling was adopted earlier this year, but her new mom had to move to assisted living and Darling couldn't go along. She walks well on a leash and rides well in a car. Darling is eager to find a new family and start a new life - would you like to be her new best friend? All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.

Story
🎉 Meet Casper — the shy guy with a heart of gold (and the soul of a professional belly-rub enthusiast)! 🎉 Casper is a one-year-old Cattle Dog mix who’s ready for a cozier setup with humans who appreciate his gentle charm, goofy side, and love for companionship. We couldn’t be happier to have welcomed Casper into our rescue as he is a gem! Casper walks nicely on a leash and is fully potty trained, going potty outside like a champ. He is also kennel trained and sleeps comfortably in his kennel through the night without accidents. While he may occasionally voice a brief opinion about bedtime, he settles down quickly and rests well. Once Casper decides you’re one of the good ones, he truly blossoms. Belly rubs, scratches, pets, and simply being near his people are his absolute favorite things. He’ll happily roll over for affection, act silly, and show off his goofy side when he feels safe and loved. Casper enjoys life’s simple joys — rolling around in fall leaves, playing in the snow with other dogs, and just being part of the fun. He gets along well with other dogs and appreciates friendly, respectful interactions. If you’re looking for a sweet, sensitive boy who loves affection, companionship, and a little everyday adventure — and who will reward your patience with loyalty, silliness, and endless belly-up moments — Casper might be your perfect match. 💫 👉 Apply to adopt Casper at: www.campcompanion.org 💰 Adoption fee: $350 + tax

Story
Meet Frannie 🐾 Frannie is a young cattle dog mix with a big heart and classic puppy energy. She’s affectionate, playful, and loves being around people and other dogs. Frannie does best with plenty of physical exercise, mental enrichment, and lots of durable chew toys to keep her busy and happy. She’s still working on her basic manners and will need continued training, especially with leash skills. Frannie can be a little anxious and may take some time to settle into a new home, so a patient adopter who understands the importance of decompression time will help her thrive. Because she can be vocal, a home without shared walls is ideal. Frannie plays well with other dogs and would enjoy having a canine companion, though it’s not required. She’s been exposed to cats and does well with children ages 4 and up. Her new home will need a 48” crate and an understanding of herding breeds and their unique needs. Adoption fee $350. Apply to adopt at campcompanion.org.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Argo arrived in November 2022 from our friends at the Rescue Network after he was rescued from a Reservation in South Dakota. He is about 3 to 4 years old and does have a lot of the trademark features of mixed breed dogs from Reservations - "Rezzies", as they are affectionately known in rescue. Like many Rezzies, he could be a mix of cattle dog and German and/or Australian shepherd, just to name a few possible options. He's a handsome and very active dog. He has been vet checked and neutered and his fee is $125. Argo has had some basic training and will require a lot of consistent exercise. This is of the utmost importance in order to keep him well balanced and happy. He is ready for action all the time but gets serious when leashed. He does pretty well on leash walks and loves car rides. He's an affectionate guy, too, who thinks nothing of climbing into a person's lap if he gets the chance. Argo would do best in a home with a large fenced yard. He's NOT a dog for apartment living. He's looking for an ADULT only, single person home as he tends to bond very closely to his person and becomes quite protective. No cats for him. He's incredibly smart and would be a lot of fun to train!
