Story
Meet Cloud ☁️ a gorgeous 2-year-old Blue Heeler with a whole lot of personality and love to give! This smart, beautiful girl is your classic heeler—independent, loyal, and always ready for adventure. She’s an alpha female who does well with other dogs and even cats when introduced slowly and respectfully. True to her breed, she’s full of energy and enthusiasm. Whether she’s zooming around the yard or proudly destroying her favorite stuffed toys, she’s happiest when she’s playing and engaging with her people. Because she thrives with clear boundaries and understanding, she’s looking for a home without young children. She does great with older, respectful kids who will give her space and allow her to come to them on her own terms. Ideal Home: ✨ Patient and confident owner who can help her feel safe and secure ✨ Someone willing to give her time to bond and trust at her pace ✨ Active home where she can burn both her physical and mental energy ✨ Breed experience is a big plus—this girl knows what she wants and loves someone who understands her If you’re looking for a loyal, fun, and spirited companion and appreciate the quirks and brilliance of the heeler breed, Cloud ☁️ might just be your perfect match. 🐾💙 Clouds adoption fee is $400 plus MN tax which covers her spay, vaccinations, microchip and any additional medical care she may have needed while in the rescue’s care. We are a foster based rescue, we do not house dogs at a facility. Age and breed are NLR's best guess as we often don't know who or what mom and dad are. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website. www.northernlakesrescue.org

Story
Minty and Sally's stories unfortunately start out the same as many other dogs' that we rescue. Born to a strong mama dog out in the woods after being dumped. Somehow surviving the elements until found. The kind family that found the mama and her 5 puppies took them in as their own, fed them, medicated them, loved them, and found them forever homes. Minty and Sally were the last remaining, unable to find forever homes. No fault of their own, East Texas is just over populated with dogs. Minty and Sally's finder took excellent care of them and socialized them around other dogs, cats, and kiddos. Cows and chickens also- but they are TOO much fun to play with! Minty is the more introverted sister. She's very friendly, but also intuitive. She's way past the puppy stage, so she is calm (definitely gets the zoomies from time to time!). She first comes across as shy, but she really has so much love to give.

Story
Approximately 7 month old Pluto is a sweet and intelligent boy in need of a loving home. No bad behaviors, just typical high energy border/aussie traits. We have small children with disabilities in the home with complex needs and regrettably no longer have the bandwidth to provide Pluto with the special attention and focus he deserves.. we’ve worked tirelessly to shape our home around him since he was just a few weeks old, so this is a decision we don’t take lightly. He truly is the biggest sweetheart and if we could keep him we would. ❤️‍🩹 He has been socialized at doggy daycare, dog parks, and professionally groomed a few times. We’ve potty trained and taught simple tricks like sit, and handshake. He loves puzzles, fetch, and chasing squirrels. Very relaxed around children.

Story
Meet Gus, a charming 5-year-old who's ready to find his forever home! Gus is a sweet and affectionate boy, though he navigates the world a little differently – he's partially blind and mostly deaf. Don't let that fool you, though; he's full of life and love! Gus thrives when he has a "job" to do! This smart boy absolutely loves to herd balls and enthusiastically chases after his canine foster siblings. He's incredibly friendly with new people, quickly making friends wherever he goes. Gus is also a pro at home life, being fully house and crate trained. He's met children, cats, and other dogs and gets along well with everyone. We're looking for a special family for Gus – one with experience with herding breeds who understands their unique energy and drive. While Gus is generally a calm companion, he does need understanding and training to help him manage his excitement and reactions to external stimuli, especially when there's a barrier like a fence. Gus will need a home with suitable space to run, whether it's a securely fenced yard or room for long-line training until his recall is solid. His ideal family will appreciate his need for mental and physical engagement, helping him live his happiest, most fulfilled life. If you have the herding breed experience, the understanding for a dog with special sensory needs, and the space for this wonderful boy to thrive, Gus can't wait to meet you! He's a truly nice dog who adores his humans and canine friends alike. Gus' adoption fee is $400 plus MN tax which covers his neuter, vaccinations, microchip and any additional medical care he may have needed while in the rescue’s care. We are a foster based rescue, we do not house dogs at a facility. Age and breed are NLR's best guess as we often don't know who or what mom and dad are. Story
Meet Ranger: The Aussie Boss Ranger is an Aussie through and through—meaning he's smart, spirited, and loves to be in charge! This handsome boy is looking for an experienced partner who understands the drive and nuance of herding breeds like Australian Shepherds and Heelers. 🧠 Working Dog Traits & Energy Ranger has a very, very high movement drive and would absolutely thrive with a working job to do. He loves being outside and engaging his brilliant mind. If you're looking for a dog to train in agility, herding, or high-level obedience, Ranger is your man! When it's time to relax, he loves to settle in for some coveted belly rubs. House-trained & Crate-trained. Favorite Things: Balls and toys! He has great motivation for play. Aussie Charm: He can be whiny to let you know his feelings—a classic Aussie trait! 🏡 Home Life & Quirks Life with Ranger is never boring! He's a clever fellow who has figured out how to open a handle door, so locks may be needed! When he's ready for a meal, he'll give you a polite reminder by going to his bowls. He hasn't met children in his home environment yet, but he is fascinated by them and loves to watch kids play from a distance. 🤝 Social Skills & Ideal Handler Ranger is a strong leader who requires a confident, clear-headed handler. Dog Interactions: He is leash reactive and will need consistent, positive training to manage this. However, when introduced correctly, he can play well with other dogs. The Perfect Match: Ranger absolutely needs an owner with Australian Shepherd or Heeler experience. Someone who understands herding dog drive, boundaries, and energy needs is essential for his success and happiness. Ready to give this smart, driven, and loving Aussie a job and a home? Ranger's adoption fee is $400 plus MN tax which covers his neuter, vaccinations, microchip and any additional medical care he may have needed while in the rescue’s care. We are a foster based rescue, we do not house dogs at a facility. Age and breed are NLR's best guess as we often don't know who or what mom and dad are.
