Story
Hi, I'm Reece. Can you tell I'm ready for action? That's just my way. My previous owner was involved in a high-speed chase. The car finally stopped when it rolled over and they found me in the car with him. Luckily, I didn't sustain any injuries. So, I was kind of used to living in overdrive. But, honestly, that kind of fun I can do without. Yes, I'm still ready for action, but I'm ready for action in the yard, going for a run, or playing with the kids. That's more my speed these days. Ready for action? I'm your dog!

Story
Meet Indica ("Freckles")! Around here, we lovingly call her Freckles, and once you see her adorable speckled coat, you'll understand why. Freckles is the kind of dog who quietly steals your heart. She has a soft, gentle personality, enjoys being around people, and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. She's currently kenneled with her buddy Oscar and has proven to be an easy companion. Sadly, as of July, Freckles has spent an entire year waiting in the shelter. Not because she's difficult. Not because she isn't a good dog. Simply because she hasn't been seen. During her time at the shelter, Freckles was selected for Missouri's Puppies for Parolees program, where she received obedience training and socialization while working with inmate trainers. She learned commands like "Sit" and "Down," giving her a wonderful foundation for her future family. Freckles is one of those dogs who doesn't demand the spotlight. She simply enjoys being with her people, making new friends, and taking life one happy day at a time. She's friendly. She's dog-social. She's trained. She's beautiful. She's ready. Now all she needs is someone to notice her. After a year of waiting, we think it's finally time for Freckles to trade her kennel for a couch, her shelter routine for family adventures, and her temporary address for a forever home. Could you be the one to show this sweet girl what it feels like to finally belong? Basics: She is a spayed female guessed to be around 2 yrs old and she weighs close to 35lbs. Adoption Process: - Please fill out our adoption application: https://www.dayofthedogs.org/adoption-application - One of our team members will get back to you via phone. - Our dogs can be seen by appointment only. We do not have a facility at this time. Dogs are in foster homes or boarding - Adoption fee is $260 and helps to cover transport costs, spay/neuter, initial vaccines, rabies, fecal, initial worming, and microchip. -We do not place holds on our dogs. Please do not contact us until you are prepared to adopt. NOTE: We are very good about updating the pet's profiles once adopted. So no need to write us to ask "Is he/she still available?" If the post is up, the dog is still available. About Day of the Dogs Day of the Dogs is a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping shelter and rescue dogs find safety, families, and second chances. Founded in 2015 by a Kansas City native, Day of the Dogs began after Pam moved to Houston, Texas and witnessed firsthand the devastating shelter overcrowding crisis facing southern communities, where some shelters have only days to find an outcome for homeless pets. Today, Day of the Dogs coordinates life-saving transports from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and other southern areas to rescue partners, shelters, fosters, and adopters in Northwest Indiana/Chicagoland and the Kansas City region — communities where adoption demand can help create better outcomes for pets in need. We also focus on long stay dogs in the Greater Kansas City and surrounding rural areas to help those pets get out of kennels and into homes. We also facilitate direct adoptions through our foster networks in both Kansas City and Northwest Indiana and partner with shelters and rescue organizations across Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, and Indiana to save more lives together. Because every open foster home creates another opportunity to save a dog, we are always looking for foster families to join our mission. Day of the Dogs operates entirely on donations. Every transport, veterinary appointment, supply purchase, and life saved is possible because of supporters who believe every dog deserves a chance. Donate or learn more: www.dayofthedogs.org
