Story
Renegade came to us in 2015 as a 4-6 month old pup. She was on the urgent list at the Kansas City shelter: "***Rescue Only - Pup was brought to the shelter by animal control. It appears that she has had no previous human socialization and is very defensive when staff attempts to interact with her." Most ferals you work with will shut down, and curl up, and not really think about biting the thing scaring them. Renegade was different (hence her name). She will defend herself and will try to scare strangers away before they ever get near her. She eventually bonded to us and we could handle her and pet her and she'd curl up in a ball and allow the touching without defending herself. She'd wag her tail for us, and get excited to see us but then if you reached for her she'd run to her safe spot (an open wire crate) and curl up. With time, patience, and consistency she will now just cower down for petting, not run away. She WANTS the petting. She's so happy with us, dances around wagging her tail, gives us little kisses, loves treats, but when you reach for her she'll cower down and wait for the petting. The feral dog in her. With strangers, she acts like she's a guard dog and tries to scare them away...but with treats, time, and love she'll warm up to you. Renegade loves it here, she's safe here, but if a skilled, special person was interested in her...she is available for adoption. In the wrong home Renegade would bite someone. So we will be thorough in our screening of potential homes. Because of her trust/fear issues the potential adopter would need to come to our property to meet her 2-3 times a week for 3-6 weeks in a row to build a bond with her. Socially Imperfect...but still worth it. Renegade is a happy dog, who loves life, loves to play with other dogs, and deserves to live. She's a perfect example of why we do what we do. Just because she's not a 'normal' dog doesn't mean she doesn't deserve to live. Check out this video of her playing: https://www.facebook.com/AutumnAcres/posts/3285192524848339 Renegade doesn't have a sponsor. Want to help provide toys, treats, and routine medical care for her? Become her sponsor! $50 a month is all we need to help provide for her.

Story
Meet Jack! He’s an energetic and playful Red Heeler with a lot of heart. Jack is 4 years old and is purebred. He loves to run and stay busy so a big yard or farm is a must. He is also a working dog breed so he needs some kind of job to do. He is good with cats after some time but might chase them at first. He likes to play with other dogs too. I would recommend a younger dog to play with him though, as he irritates our older dog. He loves to play fetch and play in water. He is very loyal and would make a good farm dog with proper training. We would love to keep him but our older dog does not get along with him now and I have trouble keeping up with his activity level.

Story
My name is Topo and I would very much love a new home with a big house and fenced in yard. I am very friendly and always get complements at the dog park about my blue and brown eyes. I am only 2 years old and still love to play. My favorite hobbies are swimming, playing catching, wrestling with other dogs, hiking on trails, chasing my owner on a mountain bike, running along side my owner on a skateboard, and exploring the world in which I live. I would love to have a family that can give me constant attention. If I don't have interaction with other dogs I feel lonely so I would love to find someone who already has another pup to play with. I would never bite anyone, and have never hurt any other dogs. I love kids, and have proven to be gentle with them. Please only consider adopting me if you have the time and commitment to put towards my needs.

Story
This sweet bundle of joy is named Pearl, but you can call her whatever you want because she can't hear you due to a congenital condition. What she lacks in hearing ability she makes up for in silliness and snuggles! She loves to run in the yard and play with other dogs, and she also gets along well with her cat roommates. Pearl is a smart girl who is working hard on her leash training. She will do some quiet whimpering when you leave or put her in her crate, but will settle in and fall fast asleep soon after. Pearl would fit well in many different environments and is looking for a loving home!

Please visit our web site at https://tarasdream.org/adopt to fill out an adoption application for this pet and for more info about our adoption process.   Dixie is a sweet girl who wants to find her forever person!  She loves toys and loves to play! While she likes most other dogs she prefers to be with her people.  She has also met cats and seemed to be ok with them. Dixie has had a bit of a rough start in life but she doesn't let that get her down. This beautiful girl is missing an eye but it doesn't bother her at all and she will still find whatever toy you throw for her!  She can get unnerved when you come up on her blind side though so she would not be suited to a home with small children. Apply to meet this cutie today!    Approximate Birthdate:  March 2021 Adoption Fee: $175 TARA's adoption fee includes: spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, heartworm test (if age appropriate), heartworm and flea prevention, and deworming.  TARA's pets are all eligible for a TWO WEEK TRIAL. Due to the fact that many of our dogs come from the local city shelters, we do not know the background of many of them and therefore cannot always guarantee age or breed.  Size is subjective but we use the following guidelines: Small 1-20 pounds, Med 20-50 pounds, Large 50-80 pounds, Extra Large over 80 pounds.     For more information please fill out an application.     CONTACT INFO The Animal Rescue Alliance (TARA) Web site: tarasdream.org Adoption Information & Applications: https://tarasdream.org/adopt Upcoming Adoption Events: https://tarasdream.org/events Email: email@tarasdream.org June 7, 2023, 4:10 pm
