Story
Meet sweet Poppy! Poppy was found in a field with her siblings, on the verge of dying. Dehydrated, emaciated, full of parasites. Thankfully a good Samaritan got them all rounded up and called us. All were a bit shy at first but have come out of their shell and are nothing short of adorable. Cattle dog/shep mix, going to be medium size dogs we think. Born in April of this year and currently around 15 pounds. RECOMMENDATIONS & PROCEDURES Please note, the following are recommendations for puppies and different breeds of dogs. We will evaluate each application on an individual basis to see what is best for the dog/puppy and the potential adopter. Puppies are very fragile and not toys. We recommend children be at least six years old to be considered to adopt a puppy. Small breed dogs ( such as chihuahuas, yorkies, shih tzus , etc) we recommend children be at least eight years old. Herding, working breeds we recommend children to be at least 12 years old. Again these are recommendations. Adoption Procedures: We will travel up to two hours ( one way) to do physical home visits and we do not do virtual home visits. ( we are in Cleveland County NC) Most of our dogs come from bad situations and we want to know where their forever home is going to be. While we do not require fencing on all dogs, certain dogs that need a fenced in yard, will not be adopted unless potential adopter has one. We also adopt some dogs to people who live in apartments ( as long as the landlord approves) but not all dogs. We do not adopt to anyone under 21 years of age. We also do not feel college students are the best fit for most of our dogs. Most of our dogs again, come from bad situations and need lots of attention. Most college students have financial responsibilities and we feel need to be focused on school. Our goal is to match the dog with a family that fits the dog’s needs. We are solely focused on what is best for each dog in our rescue. These dogs have had enough moving around, dumped out like trash, and we want to ensure they find their forever home. We do require you sign a contract and if at any time you cannot continue to provide for the dog, the dog comes back to the rescue. Your first step to adoption is filling our our on line application. You will then get an automated email stating we got your application Next our adoption coordinator will be in touch either by phone or email If your references check out, a home visit will be scheduled. After the home visit is done, a meet and greet with the dog you are interested in and/or any other available dogs we have will be scheduled If the dog and you are a match, contract will be signed and you may take your new family member home. This is a courtesy post. Please do not contact Heart of the Foothills Animal Rescue for information. Contact information is provided in the description below.Ziggy is a 6-1/2 year old Blue Heeler who needs a new home as he doesn't get along with other male dogs in the household. He is neutered and up-to-date on vaccines. He does not like toddlers, but tolerates older children. He is fine with cats, chickens, female dogs, and some male dogs - it just depends on their temperament. Ziggy is totally house trained, and sleeps inside or outside depending on the weather. He does OK on leash and in the car. If you are interested in Ziggy, please contact Carla at 828-395-3641.

Story
Meet Phillip our acrobatic wonder dog! Phillip is a cattle dog mix and is probably one of the most agile dogs we've had here. He loves to jump over things, do side jumps off of walls and slides under things so smoothly and quickly when you see it, you wonder if you saw it at all, until you see him do again. This handsome boy was destined to be on a farm as a working dog or movie star! He has done well with some dogs and not others so a meet and greet is recommended if you have other dogs. Young children are not recommended, he is still learning not to jump on people and how to walk better on a leash. Phillip is 2 years old, weighs 40 pounds, is neutered, up to date on his vaccines, microchipped and ready to find his forever home! If you're interested in meeting Phillp or possibly adopting, please submit an adoption application here: www.https://foothillshumanesociety.org/adopt/adoption-application/

Story
I’m Tuxedo, a 2- to 3-year old cattle dog mix with the most gorgeous eyes! I’m a love bug who likes to lean into my people with all 40 pounds of me, or climb into a lap when one’s available.I came to the Humane Society as a stray. I’m still new to the shelter and haven’t made new dog friends yet, but I joined the other HSYC dogs for a long trek along the Riverwalk recently. I’m a great leash-walker and car rider!I’m up to date on vaccines and preventions, neutered and microchipped. If you wish to meet me, please call the Humane Society of York County at (803)-802-0902 to schedule an appointment. Please refer to our website for adoption requirements: https://humanesocietyofyorkcounty.org/adopt/adoption-process.htmlThank you for your support.
