Story
Meet sweet Poppy! Poppy was found in a field with her siblings, on the verge of dying. Dehydrated, emaciated, full of parasites. Thankfully a good Samaritan got them all rounded up and called us. All were a bit shy at first but have come out of their shell and are nothing short of adorable. Cattle dog/shep mix, going to be medium size dogs we think. Born in April of this year and currently around 15 pounds. RECOMMENDATIONS & PROCEDURES Please note, the following are recommendations for puppies and different breeds of dogs. We will evaluate each application on an individual basis to see what is best for the dog/puppy and the potential adopter. Puppies are very fragile and not toys. We recommend children be at least six years old to be considered to adopt a puppy. Small breed dogs ( such as chihuahuas, yorkies, shih tzus , etc) we recommend children be at least eight years old. Herding, working breeds we recommend children to be at least 12 years old. Again these are recommendations. Adoption Procedures: We will travel up to two hours ( one way) to do physical home visits and we do not do virtual home visits. ( we are in Cleveland County NC) Most of our dogs come from bad situations and we want to know where their forever home is going to be. While we do not require fencing on all dogs, certain dogs that need a fenced in yard, will not be adopted unless potential adopter has one. We also adopt some dogs to people who live in apartments ( as long as the landlord approves) but not all dogs. We do not adopt to anyone under 21 years of age. We also do not feel college students are the best fit for most of our dogs. Most of our dogs again, come from bad situations and need lots of attention. Most college students have financial responsibilities and we feel need to be focused on school. Our goal is to match the dog with a family that fits the dog’s needs. We are solely focused on what is best for each dog in our rescue. These dogs have had enough moving around, dumped out like trash, and we want to ensure they find their forever home. We do require you sign a contract and if at any time you cannot continue to provide for the dog, the dog comes back to the rescue. Your first step to adoption is filling our our on line application. You will then get an automated email stating we got your application Next our adoption coordinator will be in touch either by phone or email If your references check out, a home visit will be scheduled. After the home visit is done, a meet and greet with the dog you are interested in and/or any other available dogs we have will be scheduled If the dog and you are a match, contract will be signed and you may take your new family member home. Story
Meet sweet Frankie. Frankie is a medium size boy (maybe 35 lbs) and is so sweet and so much fun. He goes on our monthly hikes and I have hiked with him the last two times. He is energetic at first but once he gets over his excitement, he walks like a dream on the leash. We have been working on sitting when others are passing us and he is doing really well at minding his manners. He is also doing well going up on some of the exercise platforms and then sitting at the top. He is super smart, learns very quickly and is just a joy to be around. He would make someone a great hiking partner and companion wherever you went. If you think he may be the boy for you, please continue to read and fill out the on line app... only drawback, no cats! Not good with kids, Not good with dogs, Needs experienced adopter, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Luna is 6 years old. She is a pure-bred Australian Cattle Dog. She is extremely loyal to those she loves. She is trained on an off leash. She responds to commands very well. She knows: Sit, Stay, Lay Down, Place, Roll Over, Wait, Kiss, Paw, and much more. She can be very loving when she wants to, and loves to be around those she loves at all times. She is not friendly toward strangers and those she does not know. She would need someone who is willing to build the relationship with her. She is not very loving towards kids. She is not aggressive, but does not know how to control her body or actions around them. She is a very anxious dog as well. She is on anxiety medication to help. The right home would be either an individual, or couple with no plans for kids. She would be a great dog for the right fit.

Story
Buff is around 8 months old and is not a large boy. Maybe weighs around 30 to 35 pounds.  He loves people and other dogs. He is doing well with crate training which should be continued in his new home to finish house training. He is very smart and picking it up quickly. He would do best with another dog in the home and an active family with room for him to run. He is doing well with leash training and loves toys. He also likes to fetch but is not a big fan of car rides. This boy just has a goofy, playful and loving temperament.  Buff is neutered, microchipped and current on shots and preventions. If you are interested in visiting or adopting, please submit our application at Richardsonrescue.org. For questions, please email Richardsonrescue@gmail.com.
