He was surrendered by our friends at Ashland Terrace Animal Hospital who took over his care when the senior owners could no longer care for him. He was very young and had much more energy than they could handle. My name is Barkley! I have been at PPC since March 2025 when my senior owners could no longer take care of me. I LOVE going on walks, cuddling up with you on the couch, and hanging out with other dogs. Going on walks to anywhere is my 'happy place' as it helps me calm my energy. Barkley is one of our more overlooked dogs, so he deserves the spotlight. Barkley is an excellent walker who is fully house trained and crate trained. He tends to be timid when meeting new people, which can make first impressions tough, but dont let that fool you. He is a very loyal and loving dog. Barkley got the opportunity to stay at a foster home for a few days and a lot of the anxiety that he experienced at the shelter almost immediately disappeared... no leash biting, no excessive jumping, and he quickly grew very comfortable with the man in the house. Barkley struggles in the shelter environment, so we are eager for a forever home that he can thrive in. We believe the perfect home for Barkley would be with another dog friend and without small children. He can be particular about who he lets in his dog friend group as he prefers to be the man in charge. He was besties with a girl dog Phoebe who has recently been adopted and we feel he would do well with another female or easy-going male dog. As part Cattle Dog, he needs regular activity to keep him happy, so is looking for a family that will take him on walking adventures. Barkley is an excellent dog who just needs the chance to shine. Danae is a beautiful, petite heeler looking for a patient adopter who understands her need to take it slow while she adjusts and learns how to be loved in a home. Before coming to HES, she spent most of her young life roaming with a pack of other dogs, and has given birth to at least one litter of puppies in the past. Having had little or no interaction with caring humans, she was very scared and confused when she came into our care. However, as she's grown more accustomed to her new life and routines, she has grown tremendously and begun to come out of her shell! Danae is still skittish and unsure, but she now greets her friends happily, accepts handling/petting and even seeks it out sometimes, and walks wonderfully on a leash. We just know that this little gal will make even more tremendous strides once she gets into a home where her interactions with people are more consistent, and where she is able to fully decompress outside of the noisy kennel environment. Her adoption even comes with free training sessions with the Dog Wizard, so that she can continue to grow her confidence. Danae would do best in a home without other dogs or with dogs who are patient and won't push her to interact before she is ready. Due to her shy and sensitive nature, her home should not have small children, but teens would be fine.
