Story
Hi, we have had Ruby for almost 5 months. We got her from a family friend who was in desperate need of getting rid of her as his dog was trying to harm her. We took her in, in consideration we could get her trained as an emotional service animal for our 4 year old special needs child. Ruby is very possessive (which is good and bad), as she nips our children, while thinking she’s protecting me. My children have no interest in her and she may be jealous of them, but she’s a very timid dog. We’re not sure how she was treated in her previous home, but we are very scared she might hurt our kids, thinking they’re going to hurt me. She is very scared of everything and will not use the bathroom outside if there’s a distraction, as she’ll bark. So much so, if any distraction, such as kids or other animals, get close to her, she will bark so much, her bark will crack and she’ll urinate. I’m unsure of what to do, and the vet recommended a distraction bag, and it still hasn’t been a success.

Story
Meet Alfie If you're looking for a well-rounded companion, look no further than Alfie! He's just as content curling up next to you (or on your lap) while watching a movie as he is playing tug-o-war. He enjoys being outside and smelling new things on his walks. He is completely unfazed by squirrels, great on a slip leash, and would make a great running buddy! Alfie is always down for a road trip and recently had a blast at the beach with his foster mom! He loads up easily to "get up or "up and knows other basic commands. He's house trained and sleeps in a kennel if needed. His best friend is his foster brother, Oliver, who is a 4 year old, 70 lb Catahoula mix. Alfie tends to get along best with younger dogs that are submissive and playful like Oliver. We suggest a meet n greet with resident dogs. He has been great with children (5+) who have come up to pet him, gently licking their faces. Alfie seems to be under the impression that he's supposed to catch a ball with his paws instead of his mouth. He hasn't quite mastered that method, so he just ends up losing track of the ball and making everyone laugh at his goofy quirk. He also loves to be petted and will nudge you if you stop, indicating that you're not done petting him just yet! The ideal home for Alfie would be a house with a fenced yard. He loves being in the same room as his human(s). He's currently left inside for 6-8 hours a day, sleeping by the door or on the couch until his foster gets home. He gets excited to go to sleep in his kennel at night. Alfie doesn't know he's 50lbs, as that doesn't stop him from wanting to be held or cradled like a baby. His foster mom says he is the sweetest boy whose big brown eyes tell you that he just wants to be included in the family, knowing he'll never be left on his own again. To see more pictures and videos of Alfie, copy and paste this link. You must apply directly for Alfie by clicking the “Apply for Adoption” button on the linked page. https://www.shelterluv.com/embed/animal/FODS-A-230 All our dogs come with 30 days of free post-adoption support through Petcademy.org. This benefit includes free access to Petcademy’s team of trainers/behaviorists, as well as access to online materials that will help you settle your new family member into your home. You can text unlimited questions to Petcademy and they'll respond within 24 hours (Monday-Friday). We only adopt in the USA. We are open to adopting in other states, except in Massachusetts. There are quarantine laws for MA and until these laws change, we are not able to adopt into MA.

Story
Bear feels strongly that he could easily herd a group of farm animals. He does have strong cattle dog breed instincts and nips at small kids heels when they run. For this reason, Bear should not go to a home with kids younger than 10 years old. Maybe you have a farm full of sheep or cattle that would be motivated by a dog. We feel he would excel at agility or any canine sports, really. This kid is not short on brains or stamina! He also gets along well with other dogs. Right now we do know that he is a very energetic dog and very smart. Within a few minutes he learned sit and wanted to show the behavior off to us throughout the day. Apply to add Bear to your family today! A portion of Bear's adoption fee has been sponsored by his previous family.

It's one of his favorite past times. He is good around other dogs! Both big and small. He doesn't love kitty cats though so he should go to kitty-free home. Mack is loyal and seems to want to stick around his people. He really enjoys car rides too! He's content to go on really any adventure you set him up for. Story
Sweet Emma is looking for a new home. Her mom loves her very much, but has to go into assisted living. Emma has lived with other dogs, and been around other dogs her entire life. She is a dainty girl, and would enjoy playing with the small dogs when she attended daycare. She is very nervous of new people, and they must give her time before she feels comfortable around them. She does better with women than men. She is pretty scared and nervous around men. Because she is so shy and nervous, a quiet house without children will be a requirement. She would enjoy an adult who is home most of the time to spend time with her. Once she knows the adult, she likes to be pet and enjoys cuddling. She's been going on walks regularly with her foster mom and enjoys them. Her foster says she enjoys the backyard and likes to hang out there just enjoying the sunshine most of the day. While Emma was surrendered with her sister Peggy it is not a requirement for them to be adopted together. They will be happy in separate homes. Apply to meet her and help this pretty girl find a new home.

Story
Meet Bell! Such a sweet and happy girl! She's also the perfect medium size at right around 40 pounds! From Bell's foster: "Bell is a sweet, goofy girl who is loyal to her people. I did find out the hard way she is a bit of an escape artist, so a yard with a reliable fence is a must for this girl. Bell is still such a puppy and has so much energy, but once she gets better mannered on a leash, she would love to go hiking and be out in nature. We took her with us on a recent trip, and she did great in the car and loved when we were able to let her roam around. Bell has never met a stranger on a walk recently. An elderly neighbor wanted to meet her, and we are working on not jumping, so while walking up to the lady, I told her off, and she was very sweet with the lady. She is happiest when she is around people. I believe she would do best in a house with another dog close to her in size to have a friend and playmate. I don't have cats, so I'm not sure how she would do around them, but my dogs are small, and she annoys them at times, but that has more to do with the fact that she wants to herd them but hasn't ever been aggressive to them in a way that concerned me. Bell is very loyal, and I have caught her sitting in front of my doggie door at night, wanting to protect the house from the outside world." From Bell's previous foster: "Yesterday she went on an adventure. She walked great. She absolutley loves everyone she meets. Happy wagging tail all the time. We are working on "off" with her with other strangers (though truly she knows no stranger). She is so active and happy girl. I adore this little girls energy. She has been great at teaching her other foster sister manners with our personal dog. She has the best and most loving pitty energy. She is a great teacher towards her foster sister. This girl deserves such a great home who will enjoy her active and social energy." "I just wanted to send you another update on Bell. She is doing great! She is super comfortable in her crate and only barks for a few minutes before settling down. At night she sleeps wonderfully in the crate. She is a huge ball of energy and needs lots of mental and physical stimulation otherwise she can get destructive. I have noticed she has a really large prey drive so I have kept her away from the cat and would not recommend her to go to a home with small animals. She is also super, super strong and needs someone who is able to handle her strength. When she sees something on walks that she wants to get to it's difficult to stop her. Other than that she is a wiggly goofball and super sweet and wants endless attention from her humans!!! She is super food motivated making training her a breeze. I was also wondering if I need to bring her to the adoption event Saturday and how that would work. Thanks!! (Also some adorable pics of the baby)" Previous shelter staff notes - very sweet girl who loves to snuggle but also loves to play rough & rowdy. She could match energy with dogs, sometimes she was very playful running all over the place & at other times she sat & watched the yard.
