Say hello is our little fluff ball, Athena. Athena is an Aussie mix around 11 weeks old. This active little girl loves to play and snuggle. Athena is a smart little girl ready to learn. She is currently 10lbs but growing everyday. She is good with other dogs, cats and kids. She does have some sharp puppy teeth so beware. Aussie’s are an active breed who need to be kept active. Be sure to do your research on the breed. Athen is currently in a foster home and will be available for adoption mid April. Before BJ arrived at Helping Strays, she was a commercial breeding dog. She currently is shut down and not very interactive with humans or dogs. She will let you touch her but she will not engage back. These are common traits due to her past. BJ will need a patient, loving, and calm home along with positive reinforcement. The greatest gift you can give a breeding dog is your patience and understanding. They all come around in time, and helping a former breeding dog become a beloved family member is an extremely rewarding experience! Thorn requires a fenced in yard or leash walks because he will run off. Come to the shelter soon and meet this pretty boy! We’re not sure about Veronica’s backstory, but we know that she’s likely been through a lot. It seems as if someone wasn’t always very nice to her because she shuts down in some situations. But she does want to be right with her person, following closely on their heels. We think Veronica is about 6 years old. She is a gorgeous Australian shepherd with a gentle personality. While she is recovering from heartworm treatment, she still has energy and wants to play. Veronica is deaf and has limited vision. She’s very smart and has learned several touch commands including “good girl” and “come.” She is learning to walk nicely on a leash and is housebroken. She sleeps nicely in her pen overnight. Veronica would do best in a home with a friendly dog to help give her confidence. She does not like being left alone for very long, so she’d love someone who is home most of the day. She’d love an active person because she loves to explore and go on adventures. She’d prefer a physical, fenced yard to keep her safe. Bella Mae is a sweet senior Australian shepherd who came to rescue after years of neglect. She quickly blossomed in her loving foster home and is now ready to find her forever family. Bella likes to sleep, eat, and get attention from her person, always wanting to be close by. She sometimes plays with stuffed toys or pushes a ball around, but is generally pretty low-key. She loves all humans – adults and kids – and they fall in love with her as soon as they meet. She is great with other dogs but doesn’t really want them sharing her dinner or her toys. She would be perfectly content as the only dog in the family. Bella Mae is very trustworthy in the house. She just naps and waits for her person to come home. She is potty trained, knows “sit” and “no” and is working on leash walking. Bella Mae would love a home where someone is around often because she loves the company. Handsome Gawain was named for one King Arthur’s valiant Knights of the Round Table. Like the legend, this puppy is loyal and courageous. Unlike the legend, his favorite things to do are play, snack, and cuddle. Gawain (the puppy) is an alluring mix of Australian shepherd, Pomeranian, and husky. He can be playful and energetic, but he has a wonderful off switch when it’s time to chill. He loves to play with other dogs, run around in the yard, and entertain himself with toys. He’s super smart and knows “sit,” “come,” and “eat!” Gawain is athletic and would likely excel at agility or sports. Gawain sleeps quietly in his crate all night and is doing well with potty training. He’s good with kids but is probably a little too exuberant for teeny tots. Gawain absolutely adores other dogs and would love to have a friendly dog buddy in his new home.
