Dixie is fostered in Ottumwa, IA. Dixie is a former breeder dog, who wasn't providing the necessary means to feed her puppies. For this reason, she was turned over to rescue. Dixie is a female blue merle miniature Australian Shepherd that is nearly 2 years of age and weights approximately 25 lbs. Dixie is a bit shy at first, but she is learning how to become a pampered pooch in her foster home. She is fostered with several other dogs of all sizes and ages, and also goes to doggy daycare (with her foster) on a regular basis. Dixie LOVES kids and she also does well with kitty cats. She is crate trained and house trained. Dixie would do best with another outgoing dog in her home. We also would recommend a physically fenced yard. Dixie has even been known to help herself to some leftovers on the counter, so beware. Dixie has done wonderful for grooming and learning that car rides mean sweet treats. She would make a great addition to most any home. Dixie is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all vaccinations and receiving monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworms. She does require a committed adopter who is willing to devote 1 - 2 hours of mental and physical stimulation per day. We also rerquire proof of purchase for heartworms on any current or past pet. NOTE: All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in. My daughter and I don't want to do this but our lives took drastic change. We are both longer able to give him the attention he needs. He is left home for 12 hours a day and thats not fair to him. Due to this change his behavior has taken a turn for the worse, he destroyed cages, the door to our house, he chews everything in site even when ive spent 100s on different textured toys. We try to take him on walks at night when we get home, but doesn't seem enough, we don't have a fenced in yard to where he can just run his energy off. He craves so much attention that when he jumps on the children that come over he hurts them or knocks them down. He does nip at your hands and feet but not hard enough to puncture skin, i dont believe he means too, but it worries me. I believe that if he had a home to where he has lots of room to run and people around and not left alone so long he wouldn't act like this. He is house trained, he can sit, lay down, shake both paws.

Hi, my name is Cooper and I'm about 10 weeks old. Me and 3 of my litter mates were surrendered to Bond County Humane Society by our owner. They had more dogs than they could afford and could not keep us. Before I came to the shelter I lived in a home with 2 adults, 4 children and a cat. There were a total of 11 puppies in my litter. You can easily tell me apart from my other litter mates because I have the prettiest blue eyes. Our Mom is an Australian Shepherd Mix and one of our Dads could be a Great Pyrenees. I am very well socialized and love to be with people. I like to play with an 8 year old boy that visits the shelter and with my litter mates. I love to play with toys. I like blankets and will take everybody else's blanket too. I am very observant and watch everything that goes on. I have been known to sleep in some weird positions. I love to be cuddled. I am learning my puppy manners. Right now I am working on "Sit". I am crate trained. I am available for immediate adoption. I am neutered, UTD on vaccinations, treated for internal and external parasites and micro chipped. My adoption fee is $300.
