Story
Meet King! King is a 1-year-old male Australian Shepherd mix with a big personality and an even bigger love for his people. He’s incredibly people-oriented, affectionate, and happiest when he’s as close to you as possible. If you’re sitting down, chances are King will be right there with you—preferably soaking up belly rubs, which are his absolute favorite. As a herding breed mix, King does exhibit herding behaviors and will do best with an adopter who has breed experience. King will need a home with structure, lots of mental stimulation, and guidance as he`s a very active dog. King also has a playful side and loves toys, especially soft stuffies that he can carry and toss around. He’s a wonderful mix of affectionate companion and energetic, engaged pup. King will make a wonderful addition to the right home. Does he sound like a good match for you?

Story
Meet Naylene, just like her name, she is one of a kind! This 9-year-old Australian Shepherd mix may be a senior, but do not let that fool you, this girl can run! Sweet, playful, and full of energy, Naylene still has plenty of pep in her step and a big love for stuffed toys (she carries them around like treasures!). She is new to the shelter, so we’re still getting to know her, but one thing is for sure , she has already stolen our hearts.

Story
If you are looking for a loyal, loving, relational companion, please consider adopting Abby. She is a special girl who has some special needs so we are looking for a special adopter just for her. The first step in adopting Abby will be to email us at pets@michianapets.org to request an application. But one step before that is to read about Abby's perfect adopter...and hopefully it is you. Her ideal home would be with someone who has experience with herding dogs as well as sensitive, fearful dogs. A slow pace when getting to know others is the perfect way to set her up for success. A calm, introverted home environment is just what Abby is looking for. We want to see her feel safe in a home, so a home with lots of visitors is not what she needs. A busy neighborhood with neighbors in close proximity would be something that would stress Abby out. A quiet neighborhood/environment would be best for her! She takes time to learn that someone is her friend, but the more she gets to know you, the more she trusts you and the more over-the-moon for you she is when she sees you. It is amazing to see her go from being scared and untrusting to having entire body wiggles and wanting to be close to you. She is the smartest girl ever. Abby knows sit, come, stay, lay down, speak and shake with her right paw and left paw! If you have time to teach her, we're sure there isn't any behavior she couldn't learn. A few of her favorite things to do are going for walks, going for car rides, snuggling and running. Abby will do best in a home as the only pet. She has not been reactive to dogs on walks and redirects nicely when asked to do so. So, she is okay with dogs at a distance but when she is in close-proximity she is not comfortable and we want her to be totally comfortable in her new home. She asks for anyone in the home to be teenagers and older. We're so excited for Abby to find her family. She is about four years old, is 53 pounds and is spayed. Please be patient while she is getting to know you. She is worth the extra effort...trust us.

Story
Kai was adopted at 3 months from a kill shelter. He is currently 7 months. Reason for rehoming is because our 5 year old female Aussie isn’t getting along with him. We’ve notice he gets along with her but she does not get along with him. Also he is showing signs of reactivity towards other dogs, some children, women and mostly men. Reactivity does not seem aggressive but fearful. We love him dearly, he’s a loving pup, has never bitten us and is very playful and full of energy. He’s very smart and completed a 6 weeks puppy class & learned to sit, down, stay, recall & spin. *Update* he is doing way better at not reacting to others on walks. But does need more training but learns quickly. Also loves to play fetch. We are looking for someone who can fulfill his needs and lifestyle as he is a high energy dog. We can no longer keep living with keeping the dogs separate. I believe his best fit would be someone with no other dog nor kids unless you believe you can handle his needs.
