Story
Behaviors- Shy & timid since he is still learning to trust people and to be a dog. Quiet, sweet, & gentle. Cats: Great Other dogs: Great Children: Great Adults: Great Potty Training Progress: He does well on a consistent schedule. His foster takes him out every 3-4 hours during the day. Crate trained: He finds his crate to be his safe place. He sleeps in his crate at night and has not had any accidents. Other behavioral info: Still very shy and timid, tries to hide in couch cushions or behind furniture unless you’re holding him. He opens up with dogs but is still scared of people. If you hold and snuggle him, he is fine. Springsteen will need A LOT of love and patience. He is the sweetest little dog, and he hasn’t made a single sound since coming into foster. Foster still has to help him out of his crate when it’s time to potty, but he does well outside. Foster carries him outside because he is not leash trained and is too scared to walk out on his own. He MUST be kept on a leash even in fenced yard, as he will run and hide and may be hard to catch. Definitely a flight risk so a fenced yard will be required. Other than not understanding people yet, he is the softest, sweetest and most handsome little man. He has one brown eye and one blue eye. Springsteen is going to make an amazing dog; he just needs a lot of love and reassurance. He would also do great in a home with another canine sibling. Aussies are incredibly intelligent working dogs; he will thrive with future training and an active family with other canine siblings.

Story
Ally is a 2 year old female purebred mini Aussie (red merle). She’s a little timid at first but warms up quickly. She’s been both an inside and outside dog. She comes AKC registered paperwork and all vaccination records. She was also given the 1 year heartworm injection in January. Please message for more details if you have interest and/or questions about her. She was a foster and people abandoned her and I can’t take in another dog. My dog is currently bullying her. Please message me for more details if interested.

Story
Pixel is a 3 - 5 yr old female Australian Shepherd. She has a medium energy level, so she should fit well into most homes provided she receives a moderate amount of daily exercise and play. She is loose and wiggly when greeting, and likes to sit by her person for snuggles and kisses. Pixel does pull on a leash, but with basic obedience training, she should be walking like a champ in no time! She is food motivated, and knows the commands sit and down. She mixes well with other dogs in a kennel and is indifferent towards cats in the shelter environment. Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their own size; and dog meets with the resident dogs are always encouraged. Our cat test should be used as a general-purpose screening only to rule out overt aggression; we always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendation on suitability of placement with children by their ages is based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs, and we cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs with children, other pets, or cats. Behavior evaluations should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at this point in time; JHS believes all dog families need to be prepared to invest time and energy into training as well as provide common sense management of their new dog. We always encourage family to do some research on the breeds or mixes of breeds prior to adoption as many can have some unique characteristics that may or may not fit into their families. Always remember that the majority of dogs at our shelter have been exposed to or may have kennel cough. Kennel cough is contagious to other dogs, please talk to your vet if you have any questions about kennel cough prior to adoption. Please ask your adoption counselor at time of adoption if you have any unanswered questions regarding illnesses and treatments of the pet that you are adopting. For more information about this dog or any others at our Shelter, please visit www.joplinhumane.org. We are the Joplin Humane Society in Joplin, Missouri. 417-623-3642.

Story
Five Great Lakes and Five Great Puppies! Hi, I'm Ontario. I'm a wonderful mix of Australian Shepherd/German Shorthaired Pointer/Blue Heeler. My siblings and I arrived here a bit skinny, but the kind folks have been filling our tummies with yummy food. I'm a bit shy, but once I get to know you, I'll be your best friend. I love cuddles and naps, and I'm told I give the best puppy kisses. I'm still learning about the world, but I'm eager to explore and play. Adopting me means endless love, snuggles, and a loyal friend for life. I promise to bring joy and happiness to your home. Will you be my forever family? If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and Minneapolis, MN areas at least monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. ##2008751##
