Story
Spot is a 1-year-old, 44-pound Australian Shepherd/Retriever mix who somehow ended up with the most straightforward name possible—and absolutely no interest in being forgettable. This handsome white-and-brown boy has lived with other dogs and does well in playgroups, where he’s happy to join the fun and make a few canine friends. At just a year old, he’s still got plenty of playful energy, goofy moments, and adventures ahead. Spot is currently looking for his perfect place in the world. Preferably one with toys, treats, dog friends, and a couch where he can take up more room than expected.

Story
Jackal is a handsome one-year old male Australian Shepherd/Husky mix who was brought to the HSOV on August 20th 2026 by an individual who found him on State Route 821 (between Interstate-77 and State Route 60 in Washington County Ohio). Jackal was accompanied by his companions (Badger and Puma) who are surely his siblings. All three of the boys were wearing a collar, but there was neither an ID tag nor a dog license tag on their collars ... And they were not microchipped. Jackal has a tan-and-cream medium/longhaired coat with subtle black shading, a long extra fluffy tail, and a beautiful Shepherd/Husky tan face with a white stripe on his forehead, a black button nose, a white ring around his slender muzzle, and large erect ears. Jackal's left eye is pale blue while his right eye is brown. Jackal and his relatives all have incredible extra-fluffy tails (the largest fluffiest tails we've ever seen by far .. almost as if they were sporting hair extensions to enhance the length and volume of their tails) (smile). But we can vouch for the boys and report that their tails are indeed natural with no fake extensions. Thanks to HSOV Volunteer Jennie Sherrard for accompanying Jackal for his outdoor photo session. Jackal posed beautifully and was careful to make eye contact with the camera so that everyone could see his stunning eye colors. He gave Jennie several nice hugs while still gazing at the camera. Jackal weighs 36.5 lbs. He did fairly well walking on a leash and was happy when Jennie took him for a short walk after he was finished with his glamour shots. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Jackal and his siblings will be held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that their family will have an opportunity to reclaim them with proof of ownership.

Story
Raccoon is a handsome male Australian Shepherd/Husky mix who was brought to the HSOV on February 11, 2026 along with his four siblings (Buck, Foxy, Groundhog, and Kitty) after they were found on Straight Run Road in the Lowell Ohio area. Raccoon and his brothers/sisters were 4-months old at that time and Raccoon weighed 22 lbs. Raccoon has a tricolor medium-haired coat with a unique black/white pattern on his chest/belly, a long tail, and an adorable face with dark brown eyes, tan eyebrows, a white/cream-colored muzzle, and extra-large erect ears. Raccoon was a happy youngster. He and his brothers/sisters were all about fun-and-games when they were at that young stage of their lives :) They loved to engage in silly puppy games .. They sometimes played rough .. but they always loved each other to curl up with for a group nap afterwards. Raccoon went home with a foster family on March 14, 2026 who planned to adopt him after he was neutered, and he was very much loved by his new family. Unfortunately Raccoon's foster family returned him on August 8th 2026 due to their living situation and work schedules since they weren't able to be with him as much as Raccoon deserved. So Raccoon is available as a foster-to-adopt with another lucky family. His previous foster family reported that Raccoon is afraid of loud noises, and he is also afraid/intimidated by larger boisterous dogs. Raccoon is naturally quite a bit larger today than he was when his 'puppy pictures' were taken on March 14th 2026. We had an opportunity to take updated pictures of this good-looking young man when HSOV Volunteer Angel Grosklos spent time with him for outdoor photos on the afternoon of August 9th. Raccoon is still a happy boy who is full of playful puppy-like energy. Raccoon was delighted when Angel sat down on a bench near the front entrance to the shelter, and he quickly jumped on her lap (and also gave her some great puppy kisses). Raccoon posed like a professional model for Dog Fancy Magazine and was a pleasure to photograph. Raccoon seemed a little too interested in the outdoor shelter mascot kitties but, of course, we didn't really know his true intentions/feelings toward the cats. Raccoon is currently 10-months old and weighs 45-50 lbs. He is fairly strong/rambunctious on a leash but settles down after a sudden burst of energy. Raccoon would love to find a fabulous foster home while he awaits his neuter procedure and even better if that individual/family would offer him a forever home after he is neutered.

Badger and his relatives all have incredible extra-fluffy tails (the largest fluffiest tails we've ever seen by far .. almost as if they were sporting hair extensions to enhance the length and volume of their tails) (smile). But we vouch for the boys and report that their tails are indeed natural with no fake extensions. Thanks to HSOV Shelter Manager Tracy Lynn for spending time with Badger for his outdoor photo session. Badger was a little apprehensive about the paparazzi/camera 'thing' as well as his new 'home' with so many other dogs nearby and people that he did not yet realize were his new best friends. Badger did himself proud and bravely posed for pictures with encouragement from Tracy and hearing what a 'good boy' he was. Badger weighs 33.5 lbs. He doesn't appear to have been accustomed to walking on a leash, but he made a noble effort and did fairly well for his Petfinder/Facebook debut photos. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Badger and his siblings will be held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that their family will have an opportunity to reclaim them with proof of ownership.

Story
Raphael is an adorable 5-month old male Australian Shepherd mix puppy who was brought to the HSOV on August 7th 2026 along with his three brothers (Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo) and his one sister (April). These puppies were abandoned on an individual's property, and their whole world as they knew it was turned upside down Raphael has a mahogany/chocolate brown medium-haired coat with a large patch of white on his chest, white paws, a long tail, and a cute puppy face with brown eyes, a long slender muzzle, a dark brown nose, and large floppy/fluffy ears. Raphael has the cutest underbite which just adds to his charm. This little sweetheart has a very lovable disposition and a happy, playful personality. Raphael is good with other dogs and also with children. These photos of Raphael were taken on the afternoon of August 8th when HSOV Kennel Techs Avah Day and Emily Beaver teamed up to assist Leonardo with his 'glamour pictures' and showered him with attention (smile). Raphael weighs 17.6 lbs. Update: Raphael went home with a foster family on August 11th who plans to adopt him after he is neutered (a requirement for HSOV adoptions to be finalized).

Puma is a handsome 2-year old male Australian Shepherd/Husky mix who was brought to the HSOV on August 20th 2026 by an individual who found him on State Route 821 (between Interstate-77 and State Route 60 in Washington County Ohio). All three of the boys were wearing a collar, but there was neither an ID tag nor a dog license tag on their collars ... And they were not microchipped. Puma has a black-and-tan medium/longhaired coat with cream-colored markings on his throat/chest, a long extra fluffy tail, and an adorable black Shepherd/Husky face with brown eyes, tan eyebrows, a black button nose, a slender muzzle, and large erect ears. Puma and his relatives all have incredible extra-fluffy tails (the largest fluffiest tails we've ever seen by far .. almost as if they were sporting hair extensions to enhance the length and volume of their tails) (smile). But we can vouch for the boys and report that their tails are indeed natural with no fake extensions. Thanks to HSOV Volunteer Angel Grosklos for accompanying Puma for his outdoor photo session. Puma posed beautifully for several pictures although he was really interested in keeping an eye on his younger relatives and gently asking Angel to take him for a walk too. We took a few 'group photos' of the three boys together after their photo sessions and, surprisingly, they were all looking at the camera in a couple of the pictures. Puma weighs 42.4 lbs. Puma didn't seem accustomed to walking on a leash but he quickly learned that new skill when Angel took him for a short walk before returning to his floor crate in the garage area. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Puma and his siblings will be held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that their family will have an opportunity to reclaim them with proof of ownership.
