Story
Simone is a beautiful 3-year old female (possible) Australian Shepherd mix who was brought to the HSOV on August 26, 2024 by a compassionate individual who found her on State Route 676 in the Churchtown area near Marietta Ohio. Simone was dragging an attached leash and, though she was obviously a very scared/frightened girl, she seemed to sense that this Good Samaritan was her guardian angel/savior .. And Simone jumped into her car and was driven to the safety of our shelter. Thanks also to the Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff who met them at HSOV and took Simone into the Receiving area of our shelter and made sure she was safe for the night. Simone has a lovely chocolate brown coat with blonde shading, a long tail, and an adorable face with expressive brown eyes, blonde eyebrows, a liver-colored nose, and a long chubby muzzle. Simone has teeny tiny 'folded over' ears which suggest that she might have some Shar-Pei ancestors in her family background. Simone was examined by one of our wonderful local veterinarians on August 28th because she had painful burns/peeling on the pads of her paws when she entered our shelter. Simone is temporary listed as a "Special Needs Dogs" since she is currently on antibiotics and anti-inflammatory/nerve pain medications. Our HSOV staff/kennel techs are soaking her sore feet in an Epsom salts solution each day, and Simone will return to the veterinarian's clinic for a follow-up appointment in a week or so. These photos of Simone were taken on August 30th in the shelter bathroom where she is currently being housed. Simone has a rather demure disposition but loves soft/soothing conversations, gentle petting, and attention. She is enjoying a quiet blanket-filled room of her own while she recuperates from her paw injuries. Simone weighs 40.2 lbs and isn't a very large girl when you see her in person. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Simone was held for three days so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership .. But nobody called or came looking for this beautiful girl. Update: Simone's paws have healed up nicely, and she is no longer listed as being 'Temporarily Special Needs'. She loves taking walks these days and looks forward to being walked by our staff and volunteers. We've learned that Simone is not good with cats. Simone was spayed on October 1, 2024 and was also given rabies vaccine.

Our HSOV staff/kennel techs are soaking her sore feet in an Epsom salts solution each day, and Simone will return to the veterinarian's clinic for a follow-up appointment in a week or so. These photos of Simone were taken on August 30th thanks to HSOV Volunteer Emma Dahlgren who carried Simone outdoors and back to her safe haven so that her sore paws would not touch the hot concrete/gravel. Simone appeared to be housebroken when she was outdoors and quickly 'took care of business' the moment her paws were in the grass. Simone has a rather demure disposition but loves gentle petting and attention. She is enjoying a quiet blanket-filled room of her own (actually the shelter bathroom) while she recuperates from her paw injuries. Story
HUGE CUDDLE BUG ALERT!!! Meet Koda (fka Fortune). This, oh so handsome boy, is an approximately 3 ½ year old Aussie/Great Pyr mix looking for a family who loves walks, playtime, and cuddling as much as he does! He is a big teddy bear when it comes to getting lovins. Ear rubbings are his absolute favorite. (Oh, and lying down beside you, or better yet, ON you, to get those ears rubbed.) Next to cuddles, his second most favorite thing is playing. He thrives on playtime, and would rather drool on stuffies than tear them apart. He loves other dogs and would love to have a friendly, playful doggy brother or sister to play with, or at the least, a neighborhood dog to have frequent play dates with. Koda is good with older children but has not been around young children and because of his large size, younger children are not recommended. (He is not the biggest fan of cats though, so no cats in his fever home.) He also enjoys playing in water (and mud. LOL) Koda is very intelligent, able to meet your requests of sit, shake, come, and free when he knows you have a real beef jerky treat. He will use a classic “Pyr Paw” to get your attention, and then stuff his face into your lap for the good ear scratches. He loves car rides and does well while in the car. Koda is big and brave, and doesn’t always know his own size, and can have an occasional klutzy moment. He enjoys watching the yard out the window, running free in large fenced area, and sniffing *everything* on long walks. Koda is a true guardian breed, barking at anything he considers a threat to his flock - especially loud trucks, motorcycles, and diesel engines. He instinctively will also bark at anything he sees running - other dogs, people, critters and kids - it is in his breeding to be concerned about others moving too fast. Due to his guardian nature, he would do well to have a confident owner who he can look up to, rather than protect. He becomes worried when he thinks it’s his job to take care of you. If his flock leaves the nest his big brown eyes will plead “You don’t need to go to work! Stay with me!” He will patiently wait for you to come home so he knows you're safe (and so you can play.) True to a Pyr’s nature, he wants to explore (he was originally found as a stray) and will chase cars if given the opportunity - so a solid fence surrounding plenty of running space is a must! (No electric fences for this boy.) And for his safety, he must be leashed at all times if outside an enclosed area. Koda is UTD on his vaccines, neutered, microchipped, and on HW and flea prevention and weighs about 80# (A lot of that is fur! And he could stand to lose a few pounds.) He is housebroken, crate trained, and leash trained. If you think Koda is the perfect pup for you, please fill out an application at https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application. There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to her new furever family. Koda is currently located in Jackson, OH.
