Story
Cosmo / Male / 3 Years / 74lbs / Australian Shepherd/Labrador / Dog Selective / Good with Older Children / Untested with Cats / Fostered in Milton ** Follow Cosmo's journey on Instagram: @theadorableadoptablecosmo* Cosmo is a striking, intelligent Shepherd-mix with a deeply sensitive and thoughtful nature. In a calm, predictable environment, he is affectionate, playful, and forms strong bonds with the people he trusts. When he feels safe, Cosmo's silly side comes out. During meal time he'll wiggle his bum and talk excitedly until he gets the 'okay!' to eat. He thinks tug is the best game in the whole world and, when it's time to play, he'll toss himself around like a monkey until he gets your attention. When you're petting him, if it's not time to be finished he'll give you a gentle tap to keep going. He enjoys relaxing near his humans, spending time on the couch or nearby on the floor, and entertaining himself with enrichment activities. He loves snuggle time with his trusted humans and believes deeply in 'if I fits I sits'. Cosmo thrives with routine, clarity, and low-pressure interactions. He does best when given space and choice, and he shows excellent potential when his nervous system is supported. He loves food-based enrichment, stuffed toys, sniffing activities, and long-lasting chews. Cosmo is house-trained and not destructive when his needs are met. Cosmo can become overwhelmed in busy or unpredictable environments. He is sensitive to excessive noise, movements, unfamiliar visitors, and close proximity to other dogs, and he benefits from thoughtful management that reduces trigger stacking. He does best with calm, respectful dogs when given adequate space and has shown the ability to self-regulate during structured, low-pressure social experiences. Cosmo isn't suited to a home with young children because their zoomies can make him anxious. Cosmo has worked with professional behavioural support and responds best to force-free handling, long-line walks in quiet natural settings, and environments that prioritize emotional safety over exposure. With consistency and continued support, he demonstrates curiosity, connection, and the ability to build confidence at a steady pace. Cosmo is looking for an experienced, patient home that understands sensitive dogs and values calm, predictable routines. His ideal home would be a quiet household — ideally rural or semi-rural — with access to safe outdoor space where he can decompress without frequent triggers. He would do best with minimal visitors and guardians who are committed to continuing his confidence-building, low-pressure lifestyle. Cosmo may thrive as an only dog or with a calm, well-matched canine companion following careful introductions. In the right environment, Cosmo is a deeply loyal and gentle companion — a dog who finds joy in quiet moments, meaningful connection, and the comfort of being truly understood. Story
Hello! My name is Pippin!I`m a sensitive guy who doesn`t enjoy loud noises or chaotic environments. But when I am relaxing with my foster parents and foster-dog brother, I`m a happy, playful, silly guy who likes to roll around on any surface you can present me with - carpet, grass, woodchips, gravel, wood, snow! Whatever scratches my back! I am also a WATER DOG and love to go for a swim in the lake. Cottage family anyone??? I sometimes bark when seeing dogs on leash but, with all the amazing support from my foster humans, I`m making really great progress! And, I am friendly and polite when I meet dogs. It`s just a silly leash issue. I`m an affectionate guy who likes to snuggle in bed with my people. I have been blossoming and gaining confidence in my foster home which means that while I used to be nervous of strangers, I`m starting to see that they are actually not that scary! With a family that has a quiet home, a bit of patience, and is looking for a sweet, lovable boy, I will be a great match!MY IDEAL HOME INVOLVES…CHILDREN: I`m looking for an adult-only home given my sensitive nature.OTHER DOGS: Yes, with a respectful, calm dog. I am more about peaceful co-existing rather than playing.CATS: Potentially, with a cat experienced living with dogs.FIRST-TIME DOG OWNERS: I`m looking for someone who has previous dog experience.FENCED-IN YARD: Required unless rural.HOUSING ENVIRONMENT: Any with yard.SOMEONE HOME MOST OF THE DAY: No, I do very well left alone!SOME OTHER THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ME…ACTIVITY LEVEL: Medium.HOUSE-TRAINED: Yes.If you think I would make a good match for your home, click the “Adopt Me” button to apply!

Meet Lightning - a bolt of joy ready to strike your heart!Lightning is a handsome 1-year-old Siberian Husky / Mini Australian Shepherd mix who lives up to his name in the best way. This tri-colored charmer with warm brown eyes is equal parts playful spark and loyal lovebug.Lightning's story began with his mama, Raven, who was heartbreakingly dumped in the country before a kind woman stepped in to help. Just before Raven gave birth to Lightning and his littermates, help was called in-and thanks to that compassion, Lightning grew up surrounded by care, structure, and love. This sweet boy is eager to learn, incredibly loyal, and happiest when he's right by your side. He loves going for walks, playing with his toys, and soaking up attention-especially when it involves kids! He adores playing with grandkids ages 5 to 13 and has a gentle, joyful nature that makes him a wonderful family dog.Lightning knows his basics-sit, come, and stay-though his "stay" is still more of a quick flash than a long strike. He lives with 10 other dogs ranging from tiny to extra-large and gets along beautifully with everyone, proving he's as social as he is sweet.Lightning is looking for a family who will give him time, love, and companionship. In return, he'll bring loyalty, laughter, and a little electric happiness into your life every single day.One meeting and Lightning is sure to strike-straight into your heart! Story
Cucho's life began in the most heartbreaking way. At just one month old, he was abandoned-left inside a plastic bag among the garbage in Mexico. Covered in fleas, weak, and barely holding on, his chances were slim. But fate had other plans for this little fighter. Rescued just in time, Cucho began his journey toward healing. The first months were not easy. He was frightened of people and unfamiliar environments, unsure if the world was a safe place. But with patience, care, and kindness, something incredible happened-Cucho began to trust. Day by day, his fear turned into confidence. That tiny, fragile puppy grew into a strong, beautiful, and resilient dog. Today, Cucho is a Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix with a striking black-and-white coat and an even more beautiful spirit. Cucho is a loyal and loving companion who feels especially comfortable around women but is also friendly with men and older children. He enjoys the company of other dogs his size, where he can play freely and burn off his medium energy-though his playful nature means he's best suited to homes without small or senior dogs. He is house trained, walks well on a leash (especially with a harness), and enjoys car rides. While his crate training is still a work in progress, he's a quick learner who thrives with consistency. He's not much of a barker-only letting his voice be heard when excitement gets the best of him. Cucho would do best in a home with a yard where he can stretch his legs and explore. Apartment living isn't ideal for him, as he enjoys space and freedom. Like many rescue dogs, Cucho will need time to decompress in a new environment. With patience and understanding, he will reveal his true self-a devoted, joyful, and deeply grateful companion. Cucho's story is one of resilience, transformation, and hope. From being discarded like trash to becoming a loving and confident dog, he is proof that even the hardest beginnings can lead to beautiful endings. Now, all Cucho needs is a forever home where he can continue his journey-this time, surrounded by love, safety, and belonging. Good with women: yes, he is very comfortable with women Good with men: yes Good with kids: yes, older kids recommended Good with other dogs: yes, I would recommend that Cucho be with dogs around the same size, not small breeds or senior dogs, because he is energetic and can play rough Good with cats: unknown House trained: yes Crate trained: in progress Energy level: medium energy Can be handled/touched: yes Barker: no, only when he is excited Flight risk: no; however, all dogs should be considered flight risks in new environments Food aggressive: none with humans, may give a light growl if a dog approaches his bowl while he is eating Current food: he eats twice per day and I used to put chicken and chicken soup to make his food soft and I mix everything and he loves it Walks on leash: yes, does best with a harness Leash reactive to people or dogs: no, will bark at the odd dog he passes Rides well in car: yes Destructive: no Needs a home with a yard: yes Needs a home with another dog: no Can live in an apartment: no Please visit our website niagaradogrescue.com to learn more about this amazing pet and to see other available dogs.

Story
Meet Sunni - Your Daily Dose of SunshineSunni's story began before she ever knew what a "home" was. Her mama was rescued in very rough shape by a kind friend who helped nurse her back to health. Unfortunately, before she could be spayed, an unexpected litter arrived. When it became clear that caring for mom and puppies was too much, rescue stepped in - and that's how sweet Sunni got her second chance at a happy life.Sunni is a gorgeous Siberian Husky / Mini Australian Shepherd mix with a stunning tri-colored coat and warm brown eyes, accented by the cutest little blue spot in her left eye - her signature sparkle.Sunni is everything you'd hope for in a young dog: loving, loyal, and eager to be involved in whatever you're doing. She's happiest when she's near her people, whether that means going for a walk, tossing toys in the yard, or soaking up attention from the kids. She adores children (ages 5-13 approved!), is wonderful with adults, and gets along beautifully with other dogs and even cats.In her foster home, Sunni lives with 10 dogs of all sizes and ages and fits right in. She's house trained (as long as she's not left too long), crate trained, and knows her basic commands like sit, come, and stay - though her "stay" is still a work in progress, and she'd love a family who enjoys training and bonding together.Sunni walks nicely on leash, isn't reactive, and comes when called. She's not a flight risk and wants to be close rather than wander off. She rides well in the car (shorter trips are best since she can get carsick) and is easy to handle and touch. She may bark occasionally, but she listens when told to quiet down - smart and polite! At mealtime, Sunni prefers her own space around other dogs, so she eats in her crate - no issues at all with people. She's medium energy, not destructive, and would thrive in a home with a yard where she can run, play, and explore. While she could be an only dog, she'd love a playful canine buddy to share her days with. Apartment life isn't her style, but a home with room and love certainly is.Sunni is a loyal heart wrapped in a beautiful coat - ready to give her forever family unconditional love, laughter, and sunshine every single day.
