Story
Mozart is a 5-year-old pup with a heart full of feeling and a quiet, soulful presence. He arrived emaciated at just 35 pounds, but despite his rough start, he's gentle, affectionate, and clearly most comfortable around people. While Mozart's name suggests a love for harmony, he's more of a solo artist when it comes to other dogs. In doggie playgroup, he seemed uneasy-often retreating to a chair for space and seeking out human companionship instead. Though he didn't engage much, he showed a bit more tolerance for calm female dogs, so he may do well with a gentle, easygoing companion in a low-key home.Mozart shines when he's with his humans. He loves belly rubs, cuddles, and simply sitting by your side, offering his sweet, loving energy in the most endearing ways. He has a cute habit of sticking out his tongue when he's relaxed and happy-and yes, it's as charming as it sounds. He's also been known to munch on blankets from time to time, so a little supervision (and a few chew toys) go a long way!Out on walks, Mozart doesn't pull and remains calm and non-reactive to his surroundings. He's still working on his leash manners and sometimes gets a bit mouthy or grabs at the leash when excited, but with consistent guidance, he's sure to keep improving. Energy-wise, Mozart falls in that "just right" category-medium to high energy. He enjoys running, exploring, and being active, but also knows how to wind down and be your laid-back lounge buddy.Out of the puppy phase but far from being a senior, Mozart is in that sweet spot of maturity. He's looking for a peaceful, supportive home where he can continue building confidence, be adored for his sensitive soul, and be cherished for the loving, silly, and unique boy he is.If you're interested in learning more about him, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at wcac.matchmaker@gmail.com with the subject line "Mozart 262610".He is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick, and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and will be neutered prior to going home. If you have dogs or cats, we recommend slow introductions over time. If you have children in your home, we recommend supervision between animals and children at all times. Story
Sandry came to us after being found alone at a complex dog park, and now he's looking for a steady, caring home to call his own. This handsome 73-pound "beefcake" has a strong, playful spirit and plenty of energy to share.Sandry gets excited when it's time to leash up-he just can't wait to get going-but once he's outside, he settles into a nice walk and passes barking dogs with no trouble at all. He pulls a little at first out of eagerness, but nothing unmanageable. He is a smart pup who already knows sit, down, paw/shake, and he can even catch treats mid-air! He takes treats gently and loves working for his rewards. A big fan of hard chew toys, peanut butter Kongs, and long walks, Sandry is an easygoing and playful companion who's ready for his next adventure. In his first doggie playgroup, Sandry had a great time playing with another female dog-showing off his playful side, though he can be a bit focused on mounting during interactions. With some guidance and a calm, understanding family, Sandry can learn how to express his affection in ways that work best for everyone. He's ready to find someone patient who will help him grow and enjoy all the love and fun he has to offer. If you're looking for a big, lovable companion who's full of heart and muscle, Sandry might be the perfect fit.Although he is heartworm positive, it is treatable and not contagious. Friends of Wake County Animal Center has provided a $700 sponsorship to help cover the cost of treatment. If you're interested in learning more about him, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at wcac.matchmaker@gmail.com with the subject line "Sandry 261940".He is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick, and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and will be neutered prior to going home. Story
Meet Homer - Your Gentle, Goofy, Squirrel-Scouting Sidekick. Homer is a 5yo lovable gentleman who's as sweet as he is playful. He's shown an impressive ability to keep his kennel clean, which may mean he's house-trained - a huge bonus for his future family! On walks, Homer pulls just a little, but he's otherwise a polite companion with no reactivity and a calm, steady presence. He knows how to sit, takes his treats very gently, and loves nothing more than scouting for squirrels like the dedicated nature enthusiast he is.Ask him if he wants to go for a walk, and you'll see his adorable excited side - he jumps with joy and wiggles with enthusiasm! But the moment he's out the door, Homer shifts into polite mode, showing that while he's full of energy, he still walks beautifully on leash. In playgroups, Homer has spent time with several friendly females and has developed a charming strategy: he likes to play coy and let the ladies coax him into fun. Once invited, he's all in - bouncing, chasing, and happily engaging. He can be mildly hormone-driven, but he responds well to corrections and adjusts easily. Between play sessions, Homer enjoys taking "TV timeouts" to soak up some human love and butt scritchies, which he absolutely adores.Homer is a wonderful blend of mellow, polite, playful, and affectionate. If you're looking for a loyal, gentle boy who brings joy, laughter, and plenty of tail wags, Homer is ready to join your family. Come meet this charming guy - he's waiting to be your new best friend!
