Story
Introducing the one and only Madilyn, affectionately known as Maddie, a stunning Lab mix with a heart as big as her size! At 98 pounds, she's a powerhouse of love and energy, ready to charm her way into your heart.Maddie may be a bit shy at first, but give her some time, and you'll witness her blossoming into the most delightful companion. Her love for car rides is unparalleled – she'll happily keep you company while you run errands and even express her impatience with a friendly beep of the horn if you take too long.Despite her size, Maddie is a bundle of agility and energy. She loves a good game of chase, and her tug-of-war skills are unmatched. Fetch is a favorite pastime, and she'll eagerly return the ball, ready for another round.Currently on a weight loss journey, Maddie might not fully agree with her light meals, often attempting to negotiate for extra snacks. But don't be fooled by her attempts – she's committed to getting in shape and being the healthiest version of herself.Socialization has been a priority for Maddie, and she's been learning that the world is filled with kind and caring people. Continuing this socialization in her forever home is crucial to ensuring her continued growth and confidence. At night, Maddie transforms into the coziest cuddle buddy. Her snoring might keep you up, but her peaceful slumber will assure you that she's content and worry-free. She loves playing with other dogs, although she would do best as an only dog as she likes to try to assert her dominance over toys.Maddie thrives in a fenced backyard, running and playing to her heart's content. Walks on the trail are another favorite activity, and she walks beautifully on a leash. If you're looking for a loving, charming, and slightly mischievous companion who will fill your life with joy, Maddie is the girl for you. Don't be surprised if she tries to become one with you during cuddle sessions – she believes there's no such thing as too much love! Come meet Maddie, and discover the endless love and laughter she brings into every moment. Maddie is spayed, current on her preventatives and vaccinations, microchipped and ready to meet her family! If you are interested in a meet and greet with her, please complete an application on our website https://www.secondchancenc.org/adopt-a-pet/dog-adoption-application/***All dogs listed on our website are in private foster homes. To arrange a meet and greet with a dog, you MUST fill out the adoption application so that it can be sent to the foster parent for review to determine if your home is a match for the dog. Story
Meet a living jewel in a compact package, WINNIE! She is the snuggliest, funniest, most trusting low-rider girl. Winnie is used to having her people work from home and can be found snoring or chewing her bone right under their feet. She is very interested in the dogs behind the fence, running the line giving the cutest, excited yelp-y barks saying "HI!". Winnie will get zooms on occasion, she is surprisingly fast! Leash manners remain a work in progress. She is very interested in all the sights and sounds around which makes her a strong puller, even on a prong collar. She is extremely happy to go with you in the car especially visiting new places. Winnie is happiest being able to look out the front window, at the end of the adventure she is snoozing. Winnie is very social (with people and dogs), but sometimes needs to work on managing her excitement in overstimulating situations. We recommend older kids and dogs in her fur-ever home, and slow, supervised introductions to new friends so that Winnie can manage her excitement levels. Winnie is a big fan of feeding time. She was rather plump when she arrived at her foster home. Her ideal family will need to be diligent in keeping her from putting that weight back on. Winnie is crate and house-trained. She is happy to be in her crate with things to do while you are away. She prefers to not be alone at bedtime, she will cry. Winnie is very much a bulldog mix so snores and snorts are a way of life. You will not lack for snuggles and chuckles with this girl around. Get your own zoomies and come meet this girl soon.

Story
Introducing Lucas, a dashing canine gentleman with a heart as big as frame! 🐕💙 This strapping 4-year-old boy, found as a stray, has a handsome demeanor that's sure to turn heads. Just watch out for his infectious excitement - he can't help but jump for joy when it's time for his beloved walks and he may even try to dash out the door ahead of you. If you're looking for a loyal and spirited buddy, Lucas might just be the charming companion you've been searching for.Lucas is one of our long-timers who came in to the shelter in August 2023. He has been adopted and returned 2 times-once for breed restrictions and once for not getting along with the resident cat. So he has only been out of the shelter for a total of 20 days since August. Lucas gets very excited when it's his turn to go outside-he collars easily, and even though he is a big boy. He does not pull on leash, enjoys strolling, sniffing, and rolling in the cool grass for a belly rub. He likes to keep his kennel clean-is on the potty list-so he tries very hard to do his business outside.A reminder of the potty rules is always needed when in a new home environment. Lucas does need to be the only dog in the home. He did not have good manners when taken to the play yard with a female friend for a play date--therefore it is recommended that Lucas be your one and only pet in the house. Lucas also isn't a fan of cats. Lucas can be very stoic but can also be a funny goofball--won't you come and meet him today-take him home-and be his family to loveIf you're interested in learning more about Lucas, please reach out to our Volunteer Matchmakers at wcac.matchmaker@gmail.com with the subject line "Lucas 243575."Lucas is ready to go home today - he is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick, and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and is already neutered. If you have dogs or cats, we recommend slow introductions over time. If you have children in your home, we recommend supervision between animals and children at all times. Story
Binka is a female 7 month old American bulldog mix. She is very affectionate and loves to snuggle and be loved on by her humans. Binka gets along with her doggy foster sister just dandy and loves to wrestle and play tug. Binka can be a little nervous meeting new people or dogs in new places but loves having new guests in her home and greets them without hesitation! In new environments, she will warm up after having a little time to adapt. We think this may be because she is a little vision impaired. She can see things close to her face and can usually chase a ball just fine, but we suspect her sight is a bit blurry. For this reason, Binka would do better in a home with older kids - she does great with her foster mom's nieces who are 7 and 9! Other than this, Binka is a completely normal playful and sweet puppy! She is fully potty and crate trained. We are working on leash manners and she is doing really well at walking nicely without pulling most of the time but will pull a bit if she is nervous (like trying to get away from a barking dog). Binka is overall a super easy and very loving puppy and would make a great addition to any family! ##1949139##

Story
There's two phrases that fit this situation: Good things come to those who wait; and good things come in small packages. At 40lbs, she may not seem small to some, but in a home where the average dog weight is 75-80lbs, she's the little bitty one!  Have you been waiting for an adorable girl with the cutest underbite ever?  Well wait no more!  This little girl, official name Sugar, but affectionately called Ma'amins by her foster mom, is ready to find her forever this time.  She was originally a shelter stray, so there's no information about her background or previous life. Everything we know we've learned while she's been in a foster home.  She currently lives with two large neutered male dogs, but she also had a large spayed female foster sister for a couple months until she got adopted.  She challenged the female, who had no issue putting her in her place a few times. Then they were best friends. But her future friends may be a better fit if they're male. Sugar likes to wrestle. Despite being more than half the size of her opponents!  She gets the zoomies at night, racing around the house, trying to engage her brothers in play.  Her teeth are ground down in the front. No idea how or when it happened.  This is mentioned because she likes to play using her mouth at times. And it doesn't hurt because 1. She doesn't put much pressure behind it, and 2. She basically just gums you.  She likes to lick and give smooches as well. Yes, she's very kissy!  She's not very snuggly, however. Choosing to be more like a cat in that she'll hang out next to you, but usually not on you. If she gets in your lap, she usually wants something lol, so it doesn't last long.  And when she wants something, there's no concept of personal space. Ha!  House training has been a bit challenging, but we've worked out a good system. She can last about 5 hours. But she's also pee pads trained (helpful that her foster brother is a senior who needs a little help in that department as well). She isn't crated during the day, preferring to sleep on the couch. She has a few minor "issues" when it comes to crates/feeding that are easily managed. But because of those issues, it's recommended she not be in a home with young children.  And she's on medication due to minor seizure activity.  Not the typical seizures, thankfully. But now that she's properly medicated, there's been no issues since!  She's young (approximately a year old, give or take), spayed, up to date on vaccines and preventatives and ready for prime time. She is a happy girl who will waggily greet you at the door when you come home every day with silly woo-woo sounds! And would do fine as an only dog as well.  Nothing is known about how she is with cats, but we're willing to meet yours if you have a dog savvy cat.  She gets a kick out of telling the neighbors to get off her lawn lol. She doesn't realize her size and interesting bark make her less than intimidating!   Needless to say, this little button is quite the character. Let us know if you'd like to meet her! Do you have the heart and home to give this girl the best for the rest? Adoption fee of $150 includes spay, microchip, vaccines, deworming, heartworm testing, and heartworm/flea/tick preventionApply here: http://2pawsup.org/2pawsup_wp/forms/adoption-form/May 6, 2024, 3:27 pm

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All dogs on the Best Friend Pet Adoption  website ARE available and require an approved Best Friend Pet Adoption application before you can be considered or meet any of our dogs.  The link to our application is   https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC    FOSTER DOG INFORMATION: Pluto is an affectionate, 70 pound, neutered male dog. He was found abandoned on the side of the road in October 2023 and is currently being fostered for Best Friend Pet Adoption.  Pluto is very sweet, healthy, and happy. He is up-to-date on his vaccinations and the vet estimates his age as 6 years old. Pluto is great with all the people and dogs he has met. He especially likes people and loves cuddles and pets.  He plays well with the fosters two dogs but can be possessive over toys if boundaries are not set. He is house-trained and not possessive over food. He will sit by the door if he wants to go out. He knows to use the bathroom in the grass in the yard or in the grass while on walks.  Pluto seems to have been well cared for previously. He spends the day lounging on the couch, playing with his toys, and awaiting more belly rubs. Pluto is quiet. He will occasionally bark briefly when we get a package at the front door (but only if the package is set against the door) otherwise he does not make a sound. He will whine/bark briefly if left out in the yard longer than it takes him to use the bathroom.  He prefers leashed bathroom breaks so no fenced yard is needed.  He does pull some while walking on a leash. Mainly pulls towards houses (I think because he prefers being inside). We are working on improving his leash skills.   We have introduced Pluto to some kids and he did well.  He was on a leash and did very well. He does not seem to mind kids, but gives more attention to adults. He was fine with children running up to him, petting him, and grabbing at his face and ears.  He has met one cat. He was not aggressive but seems to have a prey drive so he would do best in a home without cats.  We feel Pluto could be with other dogs or as an only dog.  Pluto is crate trained; however, he does not need a crate.  He prefers to be out of his crate.  He is well mannered so we keep him out all day even when we are not home. He knows where he is allowed to go and what toys he can play with.  When we work away from home, he does great. We have a camera to check up on him. He sleeps most of the day and occasionally plays with my other dogs or with a toy.  We feel he could be left home alone or with another dog.  At night Pluto sleeps on a couch, recliner, or dog bed depending on his preference. He does prefer to sleep on the bed with us. Due to his size and snoring, he typically sleeps on the couch in the living room. Pluto is very friendly and well trained. He is quiet, gentle, and spends most of the day sleeping. He is great during the day while we are at work and happy when we return. He is always ready to snuggle up next to you on the couch and receive pets. He sleeps through the night and rarely makes noise during the day. He gets along great with my dogs and we would keep him in heartbeat if we did not already have two dogs.     EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Pluto was found abandoned on the side of the road in October 2023. A BFPA volunteer found him and took him in.  We are helping this sweet boy find his forever home.      Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.    Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC.   INTERESTED IN ADOPTING PLUTO? If so, please fill out our dog adoption application by copying and pasting this link in a new browser window: https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 7, 2024, 11:43 am

Story
A bulldog among the best of bulldogs, Tonya has arrived at the farm and she is ready to roll back out with some snugglin, bull dog lovin peeps that are looking for a great companion and walking buddy who does not like to run or do anything too strenuous. Tonya is an adult gal who, let's be real, likely had people before and surely had a few too many snacks. She weighs about 60 lbs now but is ready to give the Green Bean Diet a chance in order to get her beach body back for this summer. She is a lady through a through, likes to potty outside and can politely share space with other dogs but does not have a hankering for throwing down or getting rowdy. She likes things at a slow to middlin kind of pace. This sweet girl is likely to be your shadow and won't ever demand you run or walk super fast, but would like you to meander around with her on a regular basis. Tonya is ready to find her main squeezes and will be waiting patiently for you to arrive to rescue her so that she can rescue you from a life without her! *Weekend Host feedback: "We took her on a walk. She was excited about it and pulled initially, but then mellowed out". "She wasn't a big fan of her crate, so we let her sleep downstairs on the couch overnight and she did totally fine". "We have an older pit bull and they both got along". "We were able to leave the house with her uncrated and there were no issues while we were gone".

***AVAILABLE ON-SITE THURSDAYS, FRIDAYS, and SATURDAYS*** Mr. Clean is pumped up to be the newest addition to your home! He does great in his crate, especially if you throw a treat in there and sleeps through the night once he's adjusted to a new space. Mr. Clean seems to be fully potty trained, so hopefully no messes to clean up from this guy! He is working on his leash skills, and will let you know when he's done with the walk by putting on the breaks. Mr. Clean is dog friendly especially with small to medium dogs, though he likes to test the big dogs with some physical play. Speaking of play, he is obsessed with any ball-shaped toy! Mr. Clean would love nothing more than to play fetch with you, and he even enjoys playing with the ball by himself. Fill out an application to meet this handsome fella!

Story
Introducing Blush, a striking black-and-white bulldog whose heart is as big as her 70-pound frame! Blush is a loving soul who truly lives up to her name, showing off her affectionate nature with every wag and nuzzle. Despite her robust size, she's all about soft moments and gentle cuddles. Let's be honest here and say that Blush likes a good walk about, but she is not likely to be a marathoner any time soon so would settle well with people looking for a meanderer with a love for naps. She has done well with other dogs at the farm since she arrived. This beautiful girl is seeking a forever home where she can shower her family with love and get all the belly rubs she deserves. Are you ready to be the reason Blush's cheeks turn rosy with happiness?

Story
Panda was found abandoned on the side of the road with his kennel.  His Foster Family has put in a lot of work with this sweet guy and he has come a long way very quickly.  Panda is a silly, goofy guy who loves to have his belly scratched.  He walks very well on lead with the gentle lead on.  His Foster Mama says that he is a very fast learner and he is food motivated.  As you can see in the videos, he goes right into his kennel when asked.   Panda is also really good at playing catch. He does enjoy other dogs but can play rough so it would be best for him to have dogs about his size to play with.  His Foster Mama states that he is on medication for his separation anxiety and that they have been working on clearing up the yeast buildup that he had on his skin when found.   Panda has been neutered and has tested negative for Heartworm and Lyme.  If you feel that you may be able to provide a fur-ever home for Panda, please complete an adoption application so that we can set up a meet and greet. ##1958602##

Loki is a great dog and I have been so torn with the decision to rehome him but it may be what's best for him. I am moving up north where there are more size restrictions on pets when looking for housing. I also got him with my partner at the time and she sadly passed away and I got left with all the animals we shared. We welcomed him into our home when he was 10 weeks old from the SPCA. & is now just over 2 years old. He loves to play and is a medium to higher-energy type of dog. He is a smart dog and sometimes goofy. He knows to sit, down, stay, spin, paw/shake, etc. He is very food-motivated. he stays in the crate when I am at work and doesn't bark when I get home. He sometimes thinks he's the neighborhood watch and may bark 1 or 2 times to alert you he heard a noise. he can be calmed with nature sounds. Loki would be great in a home with a yard or someone who wants a workout buddy for runs or likes to take longer walks. He sometimes chases my cat so be cautious if you have one.
