Story
Sassy is a sweet, low-key girl who enjoys the simple pleasures of life. In playgroups, she's calm and appropriate, happily walking and trotting around the yard with her male play partner. She doesn't get overly rambunctious, but she clearly enjoys gentle companionship and exploring at her own pace.Sassy has a very weak back leg and will often trot on three legs, but it doesn't slow her down from enjoying walks and time spent with friends. She's a quiet, affectionate companion who would thrive in a calm home where she can move at her own comfortable pace.Although she is heartworm positive, it is treatable and not contagious. Friends of Wake County Animal Center has provided a $600 sponsorship to help cover the cost of treatment.Email healaheart@outlook.com for more information. If you're interested in learning more about her, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at wcac.matchmaker@gmail.com with the subject line "Sassy 265035".She is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick, and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and will be spayed prior to going home. If you have dogs or cats, we recommend slow introductions over time. If you have children in your home, we recommend supervision between animals and children at all times. Story
Hello there! I'm Lexi, and I'm eagerly searching for my people to love and be close to. That's what makes be most happy...just being with you, following you, snuggling with you, and watching whatever you do. That doesn't stop me from being pretty lively outside! I love being outside in the yard when the weather is nice. I can entertain myself sniffing and exploring, chasing lizards, butterflies, squirrels...I love a good game of chase! And sometimes I just like laying in the sun. After a full day, I'm also a really good sleeper. Once the sun goes down, I'm ready to snooze. I have a hidden talent...I'm an expert at making myself into a burrito with a blanket at sleep time. My foster mom thinks it's hysterical! I'm also crate trained where I can feel cozy.I'm house-trained and know quite a few commands...I'm very smart and eager to learn. I'm willing to learn even more if you can keep those treats coming. I do really well on car rides and enjoy seeing everything around me.I have 2 senior foster siblings (the canine type), and we all get along pretty well. I get nervous when I see dogs I don't know, but my foster mom has been helping me with this. I like the furry neighbors on each side of the fence, and I'm starting to feel a lot more confident in new situations. I think I might like having a confident sibling to cuddle and play with.Well, I would love to meet you if you think I'm a good fit for you, but right now, I need to lounge and watch some doggie TV. My foster mom can answer any questions if you'd like to learn more about me. Just send an email to the shelter (see Additional Info) or email my mom directly at ncfosterdoggies@gmail.com. Story
Meet Cartie - Your Pocket-Sized Adventure Buddy! Cartie is a darling young girl with a soft heart and a bright spark. At just a year old, she's still discovering the world-and she's doing it with the sweetest mix of curiosity and charm. On walks, Cartie gets excited and may give a little pull at first, but she's learning quickly and already knows how to sit like a pro. She also takes treats gently, showing off her polite manners. Leaving the kennel, she shows zero reactivity-just calm, happy readiness to start her day.In playgroups, Cartie is an absolute cutie. She started off by cowering a bit-big packs can feel overwhelming when you're pint-sized! But as soon as she settled in, she found her people: the mid-energy dogs who love to mingle and play without too much chaos. Once she warmed up, she enjoyed engaging and making new friends. Cartie is a lovely mix of gentle, playful, and eager-to-learn. If you're looking for a sweet young dog who just needs a bit of confidence and a lot of love, Cartie might be the perfect match. If you're interested in learning more about her, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at wcac.matchmaker@gmail.com with the subject line "Cartie, 261760".She is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick, and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and will be spayed prior to going home. Story
Vienna is a soft, reserved girl who's looking for a calm and understanding home. She tends to be uneasy around other dogs, but she does have a special bond with her housemate, Barcelona, and will quietly allow his playful pouncing. When meeting new dogs, Vienna prefers slow introductions and plenty of personal space. She may shrink back or give a little snark if another dog comes too close too quickly, but she's shown she can warm up a bit with time and patience. She's been most comfortable in smaller groups with gentle, respectful dogs who don't overwhelm her.Vienna would do best with someone who appreciates a quieter, more sensitive companion-someone who can help her feel safe and supported as she continues to build confidence. Story
I'm Pillsbury, and before you ask - no, I'm NOT the doughboy! I'm actually quite the opposite: long, lean, and dare I say, rather noble-looking. Think less "pop 'n fresh" and more "runway model with a PhD in Good Manners."Sure, I've got that youthful puppy energy that keeps life exciting, but I also come with some pretty impressive life skills. I'm already potty-trained, I walk beautifully on a leash, and once we're outside together, I'm a total gentleman. Now, I'll be honest - sometimes I bark in my kennel because, well, I'd really like some attention and maybe a friend to hang out with. But the moment we're out and about? I'm cool, calm, and collected. When it comes to following instructions, I'm your guy - I look to my handler like they're the most important person in the world (because they are!). I know "sit," I take treats with the gentleness of a prince at a royal banquet, and I'm basically a straight-A student in the school of being an awesome dog. My superpower? Being a very smart boy who actually LISTENS.And good news for anyone hoping for a dog with solid social skills: I've been to playgroup! I started off a little guarded (wouldn't you, if someone was pouncing on you right away?), but I handled my overly-enthusiastic female partner like a true gentleman. After warming up, I settled in, let loose, and had myself a good time. Before long, I was bouncy, silly, and genuinely enjoying one-on-one play with my new friend. If you're interested in learning more about me, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at wcac.matchmaker@gmail.com with the subject "Pillsbury, 265137".I am up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick, and heartworm prevention, am microchipped, and will be neutered prior to going home. Isaiah is a gentle, skinny little guy with a sweet spirit. He can be a bit shy at first, and his small, fragile frame shows he could use some extra groceries and love. My sweet boy is a playful, loving family dog with a big heart and even bigger energy. He was raised around kids and other animals, and he gets along with everyone he meets. He loves going to the dog park, taking long walks, and having plenty of space to run and explore.
