Story
Don't let Bearclaw's calm demeanor at the kennel fool you - this 6-year-old, 40-pound guy isn't all icing and sprinkles! Once playtime starts, he's quick, clever, and full of energy. During playgroup, he showed off his speed in a fun game of chase with a female dog, proving he's just as much fun as he is adorable.Bearclaw enjoys fast, playful fun but also knows how to chill when the zoomies are over. With equal parts sweet and lively, Bearclaw might just be the perfect treat for your home.Although he is heartworm positive, it is treatable and not contagious. Friends of Wake County Animal Center has provided a $600 sponsorship to help cover the cost of treatment. If you're interested in learning more about him, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at wcac.matchmaker@gmail.com with the subject line "Bearclaw 264470".He is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick, and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and will be neutered prior to going home. If you have dogs or cats, we recommend slow introductions over time. If you have children in your home, we recommend supervision between animals and children at all times. Story
Well hello! I'm Lexi, and I'm looking for my people to love and be close to. That's what makes be most happy...just being with you, following you, snuggling with you, and just watching whatever you do. I'm a mature girl and well behaved inside the house, but that doesn't stop me from being pretty lively outside! I can entertain myself as I love to sniff and explore, chase lizards, butterflies, squirrels...I love a good game of chase! Once I've had some play and explore time, I'm ready to lounge and take a nap.I have a hidden talent...I'm an expert at making myself into a burrito with a sheet when I snuggle up for sleep time. My foster mom thinks it's hysterical! I also know quite a few commands, and my foster mom thinks I'm very smart. I'm willing to learn even more if you can keep those treats coming. And I love car rides and walks in the woods. I don't mind much when I'm left alone. I'm not much of a chewer, and I don't even chew up my toys. I have 2 senior foster siblings (the canine type), and we all get along pretty well. I get really excited around dogs I don't know, but my foster mom has been helping me meet new friends and know how to be respectful when we're out in public. I'm starting to feel a lot more confident in new situations. I think I might like having a confident sibling to cuddle and play with.Well, I would love to meet you if you think I'm a good fit for you, but right now, I need to lounge and watch some doggie TV. My foster mom can answer any questions if you'd like to learn more about me. Just send an email to the shelter (see Additional Info) or email my mom directly at ncfosterdoggies@gmail.com. Story
Sandry came to us after being found alone at a complex dog park, and now he's looking for a steady, caring home to call his own. This handsome 73-pound "beefcake" has a strong, playful spirit and plenty of energy to share.Sandry gets excited when it's time to leash up-he just can't wait to get going-but once he's outside, he settles into a nice walk and passes barking dogs with no trouble at all. He pulls a little at first out of eagerness, but nothing unmanageable. He is a smart pup who already knows sit, down, paw/shake, and he can even catch treats mid-air! He takes treats gently and loves working for his rewards. A big fan of hard chew toys, peanut butter Kongs, and long walks, Sandry is an easygoing and playful companion who's ready for his next adventure. In his first doggie playgroup, Sandry had a great time playing with another female dog-showing off his playful side, though he can be a bit focused on mounting during interactions. With some guidance and a calm, understanding family, Sandry can learn how to express his affection in ways that work best for everyone. He's ready to find someone patient who will help him grow and enjoy all the love and fun he has to offer. If you're looking for a big, lovable companion who's full of heart and muscle, Sandry might be the perfect fit.Although he is heartworm positive, it is treatable and not contagious. Friends of Wake County Animal Center has provided a $700 sponsorship to help cover the cost of treatment. If you're interested in learning more about him, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at wcac.matchmaker@gmail.com with the subject line "Sandry 261940".He is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick, and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and will be neutered prior to going home. Story
Slinky Malinky, a handsome 9-year-old brindle-and-white boy may be a senior on paper, but you'd never know it-he's got energy to spare! Slinky loves to explore and investigate everything around him, turning every walk or outing into an adventure. He's become a well-loved pup at the shelter thanks to his sweet nature, soulful eyes, and adorable habit of getting his droopy lips stuck on his bottom teeth.Since he came in as a stray, we don't know much about Slinky's past, but we've gotten to know just how wonderful he is. He already knows "sit," takes treats gently, and can even catch them in the air! He's easy to collar and walks past other dogs calmly, though he may pull a little at first-he's eager to get outside and do his business. He's shown excellent potty habits while at the shelter, which may translate to minimal potty training efforts when he's adopted.During a day out trip, the volunteer reported that he enjoyed a trip to the local salon for a bath. He jumped easily in and out of the car and spent the ride looking out every window to make sure he didn't miss a thing. During a walk, he can pull a bit on the leash at first because he's eager to get going, but he listens to commands and settles down nicely. With his love of movement and curiosity, he'd make a great jogging or hiking buddy and would thrive in a home with a fenced yard where he can stretch his legs and explore. When interacting in the play yard with a female dog, Slinky initially seemed uncomfortable and fixated on humping her (though he never actually tried to do so). When tried again with a different female some time later, he was bouncy and silly, and had the time of his life running around with her! Slinky would likely pair best with a tolerant friendly female, after some proper introductions of course.Although he is heartworm positive, it is treatable and not contagious. Friends of Wake County Animal Center has provided a $1050 sponsorship to help cover the cost of treatment. If you're interested in learning more about him, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at wcac.matchmaker@gmail.com with the subject line "Slinky Malinky 261102".He is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick, and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and will be neutered prior to going home. If you have dogs or cats, we recommend slow introductions over time. If you have children in your home, we recommend supervision between animals and children at all times. Story
Zion is a bouncy and playful pup who loves playing fetch and exploring. He enjoys walks with his human and also thrives when he has room to romp and play in a fenced-in yard. With his ADORABLE underbite and a talent for making the funniest faces, Zion will keep you smiling with his charm. Zion is very affectionate and loves belly rubs, head massages and cuddle sessions. Zion is treat-motivated and has already learned commands like "sit" and "stay." He's even got the hang of bringing his Kong to his designated blanket area for some enrichment. While he does get excited when we (his foster parents) come home, we're working on helping him manage that enthusiasm. When out on walks, he remains calm and non-reactive around cyclists, people, and other dogs.In his dog playgroup at the shelter, Zion started out cautiously, but it wasn't long before he was happily bouncing around with his playmates. He is a sweetheart, especially during one-on-one playtime. Zion is a true gem who thrives as part of a pack and would love a forever home where he can explore, play, and make you laugh every day!If you're interested in learning more about Zion, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at wcac.matchmaker@gmail.com with the subject line "Zion 264064" Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 41 Age: 1yrs 7mths 3wks
