Story
Hello there! I'm Lexi, and I'm eagerly searching for my people to love and be close to. That's what makes be most happy...just being with you, following you, snuggling with you, and watching whatever you do. That doesn't stop me from being pretty lively outside! I love being outside in the yard when the weather is nice. I can entertain myself sniffing and exploring, chasing lizards, butterflies, squirrels...I love a good game of chase! And sometimes I just like laying in the sun. After a full day, I'm also a really good sleeper. Once the sun goes down, I'm ready to snooze. I have a hidden talent...I'm an expert at making myself into a burrito with a blanket at sleep time. My foster mom thinks it's hysterical! I'm also crate trained where I can feel cozy.I'm house-trained and know quite a few commands...I'm very smart and eager to learn. I'm willing to learn even more if you can keep those treats coming. I do really well on car rides and enjoy seeing everything around me.I have 2 senior foster siblings (the canine type), and we all get along pretty well. I get nervous when I see dogs I don't know, but my foster mom has been helping me with this. I like the furry neighbors on each side of the fence, and I'm starting to feel a lot more confident in new situations. I think I might like having a confident sibling to cuddle and play with.Well, I would love to meet you if you think I'm a good fit for you, but right now, I need to lounge and watch some doggie TV. My foster mom can answer any questions if you'd like to learn more about me. Just send an email to the shelter (see Additional Info) or email my mom directly at ncfosterdoggies@gmail.com. Don't let Bearclaw's calm demeanor at the kennel fool you - this 6-year-old, 40-pound guy isn't all icing and sprinkles! Once playtime starts, he's quick, clever, and full of energy. During playgroup, he showed off his speed in a fun game of chase with a female dog, proving he's just as much fun as he is adorable.Bearclaw enjoys fast, playful fun but also knows how to chill when the zoomies are over. With equal parts sweet and lively, Bearclaw might just be the perfect treat for your home.Although he is heartworm positive, it is treatable and not contagious. Friends of Wake County Animal Center has provided a $600 sponsorship to help cover the cost of treatment. If you're interested in learning more about him, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at wcac.matchmaker@gmail.com with the subject line "Bearclaw 264470".He is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick, and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and will be neutered prior to going home. Story
This handsome 3-year-old pup was surrendered by the only family he's ever known-they had him since he was a puppy but could no longer care for him. He arrived at the shelter with his companion Kashmere, and while we've learned a lot about him, some of his behaviors here differ a bit from what his previous family described.Dinero is an energetic, playful guy who gets excited when it's time to head outside. He may react a little when passing barking dogs in the kennel area, but once he's outdoors, he's a great walker and doesn't pull-unless, of course, a squirrel crosses his path! He's strong, active, and loves to jog, run, explore, and go on adventures. A fenced yard and an active person or family would be the perfect fit to help him burn off his energy. In the shelter, Dinero shows some nervousness being harnessed in his kennel, but he handles it with some patience and settles once outside. He's been friendly with male volunteers, even though his previous owners said he was "fearful of men". He has interacted with kids over 7 and did well, though his size and enthusiasm might be a bit much for very young children-he could accidentally knock them over.Dinero loves treats, knows how to sit, and keeps his kennel clean, so he's on the potty-trained list. He would thrive as the only pet-no other dogs, cats, or livestock for this guy. He also has a strong prey drive and will chase small animals, so a secure fence is a must (and he might try to jump it if something exciting catches his eye!).Dinero was a delightful surprise in playgroup. He enthusiastically engaged with one of our most active and exuberant females, matching her energy with ease. He ran, rolled, play-bowed, and kept up with full-speed play, showing excellent social skills and a joyful play style. Dinero clearly enjoyed having a playful companion and thrived in the active, high-energy interaction. If you're interested in learning more about Dinero, please reach out to our Volunteer Matchmakers at wcac.matchmaker@gmail.com with the subject line "Dinero 261508."Dinero is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick, and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and will be neutered prior to going home. If you have dogs or cats, we recommend slow introductions over time. If you have children in your home, we recommend supervision between animals and children at all times. Story
Meet Cartie - Your Pocket-Sized Adventure Buddy! Cartie is a darling young girl with a soft heart and a bright spark. At just a year old, she's still discovering the world-and she's doing it with the sweetest mix of curiosity and charm. On walks, Cartie gets excited and may give a little pull at first, but she's learning quickly and already knows how to sit like a pro. She also takes treats gently, showing off her polite manners. Leaving the kennel, she shows zero reactivity-just calm, happy readiness to start her day.In playgroups, Cartie is an absolute cutie. She started off by cowering a bit-big packs can feel overwhelming when you're pint-sized! But as soon as she settled in, she found her people: the mid-energy dogs who love to mingle and play without too much chaos. Once she warmed up, she enjoyed engaging and making new friends. Cartie is a lovely mix of gentle, playful, and eager-to-learn. If you're looking for a sweet young dog who just needs a bit of confidence and a lot of love, Cartie might be the perfect match. If you're interested in learning more about her, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at wcac.matchmaker@gmail.com with the subject line "Cartie, 261760".She is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick, and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and will be spayed prior to going home. If you have dogs or cats, we recommend slow introductions over time. If you have children in your home, we recommend supervision between animals and children at all times. Story
Sandry came to us after being found alone at a complex dog park, and now he's looking for a steady, caring home to call his own. This handsome 73-pound "beefcake" has a strong, playful spirit and plenty of energy to share.Sandry gets excited when it's time to leash up-he just can't wait to get going-but once he's outside, he settles into a nice walk and passes barking dogs with no trouble at all. He pulls a little at first out of eagerness, but nothing unmanageable. He is a smart pup who already knows sit, down, paw/shake, and he can even catch treats mid-air! He takes treats gently and loves working for his rewards. A big fan of hard chew toys, peanut butter Kongs, and long walks, Sandry is an easygoing and playful companion who's ready for his next adventure. In his first doggie playgroup, Sandry had a great time playing with another female dog-showing off his playful side, though he can be a bit focused on mounting during interactions. With some guidance and a calm, understanding family, Sandry can learn how to express his affection in ways that work best for everyone. He's ready to find someone patient who will help him grow and enjoy all the love and fun he has to offer. If you're looking for a big, lovable companion who's full of heart and muscle, Sandry might be the perfect fit.Although he is heartworm positive, it is treatable and not contagious. Friends of Wake County Animal Center has provided a $700 sponsorship to help cover the cost of treatment. He is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick, and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and will be neutered prior to going home. If you have dogs or cats, we recommend slow introductions over time. If you have children in your home, we recommend supervision between animals and children at all times. Story
Mack is a gentle, old-soul gentleman who believes the best things in life are the quiet moments-a soft nuzzle, a peaceful walk, or a calm lean against a trusted human. He doesn't demand the spotlight or jump around; instead, he offers steady, loving companionship and a calming presence that makes any home feel a little warmer. In playgroup, Mack was respectful but a bit grumbly. As an older dog, his high-energy days are behind him. He can get a little squawky when other dogs bounce around too much, and his movements are slow and deliberate, suggesting his joints may ache. His pace is steady and measured, perfect for someone who appreciates a calm, predictable companion.Mack is looking for a patient, understanding human who can be his anchor-a person who will help him feel safe and secure in the world. He thrives on quiet connection, gentle walks, and the comfort of knowing he's loved. For someone seeking a loyal, affectionate, low-key companion, Mack is an absolute treasure.Although he is heartworm positive, it is treatable and not contagious. Friends of Wake County Animal Center has provided a $600 sponsorship to help cover the cost of treatment. If you're interested in learning more about him, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at wcac.matchmaker@gmail.com with the subject "Mack, 214258".He is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick, and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and will be neutered prior to going home.
