Story
Highly versatile, full of essential nutrients, and undeniably the cream of the crop, meet Zucchini, an eight-year-old Basset Hound mix. While this fun-loving lady has a full social calendar, she’s more than willing to pencil you in, ready to meet her potential forever family. Enjoying walks and playtime in the pen, she’s taken a thorough inventory of the toy box, putting her paw print on her favorites. A bit stubborn, though always charming, she has a warm and friendly disposition, endless curiosity, and will entertain you with her goofy antics. There’s always room for more fun in your life, especially when it arrives on four legs and is named Zucchini! **Fun fact: Elvis Presley famously sang ‘Hound Dog’ to a top-hat-wearing Basset named Sherlock. *Zucchini is fully grown and housebroken*

Story
Hank - 2 years, 62lbs, Beagle/Basset Mix, Neutered  This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Our Team Says: "He's a big ladies man!! Loves ladies - more nervous around men - would be good for a couple but might have a hard time with a single man." Thier Foster Parent Says: "Hank is a very shy/nervous boy but once he warms up to you, he will become your bestfriend and a major cuddle bug. He loves to sprawl on the couch and play with his toys or chew on his bone. When he's not playing, he'll come right up to you for some snuggles (he's a great nap partner). Though he gets spooked by people outside, he is very calm indoors and most loud noises don't phase him (minus the vacuum). He is also the most quiet, gentle, and sweet soul. He may not know many commands, but he does understand the important ones - "no" and "drop it". He is smart and a fast learner so I'm sure he'll know plenty more in no time." Level of dog ownership experience needed:BEGINNER: This means we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale due to its breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup.  Energy levelMEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  ENERGY LEVELMedium – Needs a daily 60-90 minute morning walk or window of quick paced exercise in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant opportunities to socialize outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  TOLERANCE TO CITYAdjusting to the city – Spooked easily by loud noises and bustling areas but walks pretty well in quiet areas and probably just needs more time to adjust (may be a puppy or a brand new rescue). Would prefer a home in a calmer part of the city or the suburbs. POTTY TRAININGSort of -- On the way and learning! May be using wee pads (is a puppy or a brand new rescue)  COMFORT LEVEL WITH STRANGERSWallflower – Very shy with new people and takes a while to warm up. Afraid when unfamiliar people try to say hi on the street, hides or shrinks back when new people visit the home.  BEHAVIOR WITH CHILDREN (always requires adult supervision)Maybe for age 12 and up – Is either big and energetic (okay with kids big enough not to get knocked down) or a little skittish (could be comfortable with older children that can be extra gentle)  SOCIAL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER DOGSStill working on it – Either retreats from other dogs or barks at them/leash reactive. Needs more socialization training or may just be a dog that prefers human company  RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER ANIMALS (cats, small pets, etc.)Not sure – Wants to chase squirrels and birds so may not be a good match for a home with cats, rabbits, etc.  MOUTHY BEHAVIORWorking on it – Is respectful of hands, feet, etc. but likes to chew on things they’re not supposed to like shoes, furniture, etc.  SEPARATION ANXIETY (Please leave your foster dog home alone every day for at least 20 minutes.)Adjusting – Might cry for a few minutes when you first leave the house but settles pretty quickly and has no problem being left alone otherwise.  LEASH MANNERSGetting the hang of it – Probably hasn’t been on a leash much in their life but figuring it out. Might be a mild puller but responds to correction.  CUDDLE BUG LEVELMedium – Likes to snuggle when he's in the mood but often stays in his own bed  JUMPING ON PEOPLE TO SAY HELLOCalm Greetings – Doesn’t jump up on people or dogs. Always all four on the floor.  CRATE TRAININGYep/mostly – Seems comfortable in the crate, may whine a little at first but settles pretty quickly. We use the crate when we leave the pup alone and/or at night. (does not do well in crate when left alone, but loves it when you're home) Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from the South or Puerto Rico ; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. Story
Glady is about a year old and is ready to get started on her brand new life with a brand new family who would never dream in a million years of dumping her off in the country to fend for herself. However, if she could talk, we have a feeling that is exactly the story she would tell us. Onne of our foster families happened to see her wandering around looking confused and lost. They pulled up, opened the car door, she hopped in like she belonged there and off they went. They have had a for a couple of weeks to make sure she's a good girl, and they have reported she's a good girl unless you're of the feline variety. If you have kitties, they are NOT going to be pleased with the adoption of Gladys, but if you have other dogs and/or human kiddos, they'll be pleased as punch with this lovely girl. There's a lot of love and joy packed into Gladys' 45 lb-ish body. She's housebroken, nice on leash, nice medium energy level....she'll fit in with any loving family (without kitties). Apply to adopt Gladys at www.cprdogs.com. Gladys is spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and current on flea/tick and heartworm preventative. All dogs 6 month + receive a Proheart 6 injection at the time of their heartworm test. This provides heartworm prevention for 6 months from the time of that injection. This dog has tested negative for heartworms. The adoption fee is $450 if your adoption is prepaid and final prior to your dog's arrival. An additional $50 will be charged on dogs that are adopted at an event, or foster home. This additional fee is necessary in order to comply with CT HB 5368. WANT TO MEET OUR DOGS IN PERSON? Check the Events tab on cprdogs.com for all weekend adoption event info. The majority of the dogs marked as 'meet me' will be there to see you! If you are a MA resident, your new family member is required to go through a mandatory 48 hour quarantine period at our Woburn MA isolation facility. Your new family member will be dropped off by our transport on Thursday and will be ready for you to pick him/her up on Saturday between 11 am-1 pm. An additional $100 fee will be added for any dogs picked up from the Woburn MA quarantine facility. This additional fee is necessary in order to comply with MA Order 405-CD-12 and Order 1-AHO-05. TO APPLY PLEASE GO TO www.cprdogs.com. If your application was successfully submitted you will get a confirmation. Please DO NOT USE the ADOPTAPET "CONTACT THIS RESCUE GROUP" form below or you may not hear from us as these often end up in spam or bouncing back. After receipt of your application, an adoption counselor will then be in touch to answer your questions about this pup, discuss the adoption process and get the ball rolling! If you have not heard from one of our volunteers within 5 days of submitting your application, please email mollibo@gmail.com.
