You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Update after I've been in my foster home about a month:  I LOVE other dogs!  I am great with the puppies that we are also fostering here.  I definitely need a playmate, and I would do well with a dog around my size or bigger who like to be rough and run around!  I would love to run around a yard with my buddy, or long walks sound nice!  I am great in my crate.  I am housebroken, but I hate going out in the rain (can you blame me?)  I love to cuddle and give kisses!!!   Hi!  I'm Chanel!! My mom really loves me, but I was just too bouncy and busy around her little girl.  I could really use a doggie playmate to bounce around with!  I'm a great girl, ready to be your best friend!  I am a little shy at first in new situations, but I'm a brave girl and I warm up quickly!! Chanel is being fostered in Charlottesville VA. Her adoption fee is $400 and she is fully up to date on her vetting. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 28, 2024, 8:41 pm

Story
My name is Joseph, or Joey if you like. I am the sweetest lovable guy you'll ever meet!! I am a Bagel (a Basset Beagle mix) with a lot more Beagle than Basset. Best guess is that I am about 7 years old and I am looking forward to finding a family that appreciates the virtues of a fellow like me!!! I am house-trained and learned to use the doggie door pretty quickly. I take my job of patrolling the backyard very seriously and ensure my foster's home is free from all deer, rabbits, and squirrels! I am crate-trained too, but I'm so well-behaved, even when left alone, that I don't need to be confined. I have my favorite dog bed and am always ready for a good cozy nap. I do enjoy going on a walk or two every day as well as time playing outside. I would prefer a home with a fenced yard so I have a way to let off some energy. Despite being out of the playful puppy stage, I still get the zoomies occasionally!I really love people and am instant friends with everyone I meet. I am very calm and would be great with children of any age. I get along great with other dogs and I really do enjoy the company of my foster brother. I would be lonely without another dog in the home. When I came to my foster home, I wasn't feeling my best. It turns out I have a heart issue and require daily medication to keep me healthy. BROOD's medical director can tell you all about it, I don't understand all the big medical words! As I got healthy with the treatment, I really started to blossom and am absolutely loving life!!! I am so much more playful and have more stamina without needing to rest as much. I am a happy-go-lucky guy and just waiting for the next adventure!! I know my prefect family is out there, I hope it's you!!!! Please contact BROOD today!!! My adoption fee is $250.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/. We adopt to residents of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, DC, Delaware, and southern Pennsylvania. Do not apply to adopt from BROOD if you live in another state. We require a virtual home visit and a veterinary reference. The age of many BROOD dogs is unknown, as very few come with official records. The estimate on the dog's age is usually the initial estimate given by the receiving shelter, which may be different from that given at the time of the initial checkup. Different veterinarians may also give different ages, and those different opinions are sometimes reflected on the record. ***BROOD's adoption fees are determined based on the age of the dog. 05/05/2024

Story
I am an honorary Basset named Fannie Mae. The best guess is that I am mostly, if not all, Foxhound. My foster mom is really curious so she sent off some swabs for a DNA test. I can't wait to see the results!I am a sweet, calm, laid-back lady of about 9 years. I came to BROOD after I was found to be living in some pretty bad conditions with an owner who wasn't taking care of me properly. I am so grateful to have a second chance now at a happy life and can't wait to meet my forever family.I am house-trained, crate-trained, and can use a doggie dog. I love going on long walks around the neighborhood to meet new friends. I am very quiet. In fact, my foster mom said it was a few weeks before I barked at all and then it was because I saw foxes outside through the window. I love people and children and would be best in a home with kids older than 10 as I am a pretty sound sleeper and don't like to be startled awake by sudden noise or movement. I would do well as an only dog as well as an apartment dweller, as long as I got in lots of walk time. ! I'd love to have a home with a fenced-in yard for me to run and play in.I am so easy to love and care for, happy all the time and ready to live my best life! Please contact BROOD today!!! My adoption fee is $150.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/. Story
I'm a pocket-sized Beagle named Marcy. Due to my size, I am often mistaken for a puppy but I am around 5 years old. I was found as a stray in a remote rural area so no one knows. I have a beautiful chocolate coat and have earned the nickname "Baked Bean" due to my unusual coloring and petite size. Although I am all grown up, I still have bursts of puppy energy and mischievousness and have been known to "investigate" things that I shouldn't. I need to be kept busy and can easily keep myself entertained by playing with toys and bones (my favorite are Benebone Chews!!!!) or running around in the yard. I need to go to a home with a fenced yard so I can do all my zoomies in a safe environment. I don't much care for walks as I don't understand being on a leash, but my foster family is working with me and I am learning to see the fun of exploring with my family.I am working on my house training. I know I need to potty outside but when it's rainy and muddy, it's hard to leave a warm dry house. I am crate-trained and can use a doggie door too. I am very food motivated so I learn pretty quickly. I could eat until I burst!!! But thankfully I am such a small lady that most food is far out of my reach. I wouldn't do well in an apartment or busy city living. Most loud noises startle me and a home with so many stairs might not be best for my tiny size. I do bark a bit when my family leaves for the day so I might not be a good neighbor in close quarters.I get along with other dogs and love people and children. I might be best in a home with children over 8 as I do tend to jump up on people which could be intimidating for small kids. I can be a little shy at first but quickly warm up and am a real snuggle buddy. I love to sniff people including their faces and hair but I am not a kisser. You may have noticed in my photos (my foster mom has tried to take lots of photos and videos, but I am just too fast!), I've got a bit of a stubby tail and missing my left eye. I wish I could talk to tell you the stories behind that!!! I don't let that get me down and have no mobility issues. I do get daily eyedrops in my right eye for chronic dry eye.If you love "Baked Beans" and want a tiny constant companion, then I am the one you are looking for!!! I can't help but make you smile! Please contact BROOD today!!! My adoption fee is $250.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Story
I am Daisy, a pleasantly plump, 8-year-old classic Basset looking for a family to smother me with love, cuddles, and treat me like the queen that I am! I came to BROOD from a home where I ate more human food than dog food and the vet said I have about 15 pounds to lose to be a perfect weight for a gal my age and size. My foster family has been working with me to cut the calories and try and increase the exercise so I will need a family willing to help on my weight loss journey!I am very nearly fully house-trained. I love roaming outside or warming myself in the sun, and sometimes I forget what I am out there to do. I will need a home with a fenced yard as I don't much care for walks for exercise. I prefer to take things at my own pace on my own schedule. I am crate-trained too and sleep quietly there through the night. I love being with my people so will sometimes bark to show my displeasure if crated during the day while my family is out running errands. I love people and getting all the attention I can. I do startle pretty easily when napping, which is my favorite pastime, so I would do best in a home with older children who know to let me get my beauty rest. I need to go to a home as the only dog. I want all the attention for myself and don't like to share my family with other dogs. I don't mind the cats here, we just go our separate ways. I can be stubborn when it comes to food. I want whatever you have, my favorites are pizza, burgers, and chicken. But I won't turn down veggies and fruit either. I am learning about "cookies" and love a milk bone treat for when I am being good. I have learned to be super quiet and can sneak on chairs to reach food if not properly supervised. I've yet to meet a person, or their food, that I didn't instantly love! Please contact BROOD today!!! My adoption fee is $200.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Story
We received a call for help, this person had more then 20 animals on his property, adults and puppies he needed food and to get the girls fixed. A local spay/neuter clinic helped with spay/neuter, rabies and heartworm testing. All the adults were taken back to the owner and he is given dog food to help with feeding them. We were able to take in some of the young pups, had them heartworm tested (which was negative) spay/neutered all vaccines and microchipped. We took the puppies hoping they would be heartworm negative and they are. Since having them here we have had to work with them to learn to trust us, at first they will be a little nervous but give them time and they will fill your heart. They are crate trained, but not house broken. If you have a big heart and would like to give these puppies a chance, please email BakerBridgeRescue@aol.com and ask for an application, we would love to talk with you in detail about each pup. Once approved, we will call you. We transport every other week to a location near you with the most animal friendly transport - Rescue Riders Transport.
