You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Update after I've been in my foster home about a month:  I LOVE other dogs!  I am great with the puppies that we are also fostering here.  I definitely need a playmate, and I would do well with a dog around my size or bigger who like to be rough and run around!  I would love to run around a yard with my buddy, or long walks sound nice!  I am great in my crate.  I am housebroken, but I hate going out in the rain (can you blame me?)  I love to cuddle and give kisses!!!   Hi!  I'm Chanel!! My mom really loves me, but I was just too bouncy and busy around her little girl.  I could really use a doggie playmate to bounce around with!  I'm a great girl, ready to be your best friend!  I am a little shy at first in new situations, but I'm a brave girl and I warm up quickly!! Chanel is being fostered in Charlottesville VA. Her adoption fee is $400 and she is fully up to date on her vetting. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 27, 2024, 5:13 pm

Story
I am an honorary Basset named Fannie Mae. The best guess is that I am mostly, if not all, Foxhound. My foster mom is really curious so she sent off some swabs for a DNA test. I can't wait to see the results!I am a sweet, calm, laid-back lady of about 9 years. I came to BROOD after I was found to be living in some pretty bad conditions with an owner who wasn't taking care of me properly. I am so grateful to have a second chance now at a happy life and can't wait to meet my forever family.I am house-trained, crate-trained, and can use a doggie dog. I love going on long walks around the neighborhood to meet new friends. I am very quiet. In fact, my foster mom said it was a few weeks before I barked at all and then it was because I saw foxes outside through the window. I love people and children and would be best in a home with kids older than 10 as I am a pretty sound sleeper and don't like to be startled awake by sudden noise or movement. I would do well as an only dog as well as an apartment dweller, as long as I got in lots of walk time. ! I'd love to have a home with a fenced-in yard for me to run and play in.I am so easy to love and care for, happy all the time and ready to live my best life! Please contact BROOD today!!! My adoption fee is $150.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/. We adopt to residents of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, DC, Delaware, and southern Pennsylvania. Do not apply to adopt from BROOD if you live in another state. We require a virtual home visit and a veterinary reference. The age of many BROOD dogs is unknown, as very few come with official records. The estimate on the dog's age is usually the initial estimate given by the receiving shelter, which may be different from that given at the time of the initial checkup. Different veterinarians may also give different ages, and those different opinions are sometimes reflected on the record. ***BROOD's adoption fees are determined based on the age of the dog. 02/06/2024

Story
I'm Bennie, a Basset-Beagle mix around 4 years old. I was found as a stray so my background is anyone's guess. I am working on my house training and am 99% there. I am crate-trained but will whine or bark a little if I don't want to be left alone. I quickly settle down and am a quiet guy. I am pretty slow on walks, still trying to figure this leash thing out and I don't care much for car rides. I love playing with the dogs in my foster home and I'd love a canine friend to play with. But I would also be okay as an only dog.My uneasiness related to new people, places, and things is improving with every passing day. I am very easygoing and laid back and don't need much to be content. I do like to collect things, my foster mom calls me a thief. If it's on the floor, it's mine and will grab blankets, toys, and pillows and run through the house with them. I am respectful and know not to chew and enjoy the game of my foster family chasing me to get them back. I used to be a picky and slow eater, but now I eat with the pack and inhale my food-I love mealtimes! I am not a snuggler, yet, but do enjoy the company of my family and want to be wherever they go.I am a mellow hound who will be best placed in a home that is low key and not highly active. I am looking for a patient and understanding family to allow me to bloom into the wonderful family dog that I know I am. Please contact BROOD today!!! My adoption fee is $250.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/. Story
Hi, I'm Annie B!!! I think the B stands for Beagle as I am mostly Beagle with a splash of Basset. I was a stray found abandoned in a remote rural area so no one knows anything about me. The best guess is that I am about 5 years old.I am mostly housetrained. But like any good Beagle worth their nose, I love to smell and sniff all the things out in the yard and will get so distracted I forget to potty. I am crate-trained and can use the doggie door in my home. I am also trained to obey an invisible fence! I love going on leisurely walks around the neighborhood and am always ready for a car ride. I am quiet until I get on that scent outside and will let you know what I have found. I need a home with a fenced-in yard, so no apartment living for me, because I just love being outside as much as I can to roam, sniff and experience the great outdoors. I love people and children and would be great in any family that is pretty quiet without a lot of household activity. All that hustle and bustle can make me a little nervous. I get along with dogs, even cats, and love to snuggle with them when it's time for bed. I love snuggle time and will cozy up next to anyone!I am very food-motivated, I love mealtime! And I'd do anything for baby carrots!!! I don't need much more in life to be happy!!!I do have some issues with dry eyes and will need daily eye drops to keep them clear and moist.I'm looking for a family to love me as much as I will love them. Could that be you???? Please contact BROOD today!!! My adoption fee is $250.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Story
I'm a pocket-sized Beagle named Marcy. Due to my size, I am often mistaken for a puppy but I am around 5 years old. I was found as a stray in a remote rural area so no one knows. I have a beautiful chocolate coat and have earned the nickname "Baked Bean" due to my unusual coloring and petite size. Although I am all grown up, I still have bursts of puppy energy and mischievousness and have been known to "investigate" things that I shouldn't. I need to be kept busy and can easily keep myself entertained by playing with toys and bones (my favorite are Benebone Chews!!!!) or running around in the yard. I need to go to a home with a fenced yard so I can do all my zoomies in a safe environment. I don't much care for walks as I don't understand being on a leash, but my foster family is working with me and I am learning to see the fun of exploring with my family.I am working on my house training. I know I need to potty outside but when it's rainy and muddy, it's hard to leave a warm dry house. I am crate-trained and can use a doggie door too. I am very food motivated so I learn pretty quickly. I could eat until I burst!!! But thankfully I am such a small lady that most food is far out of my reach. I wouldn't do well in an apartment or busy city living. Most loud noises startle me and a home with so many stairs might not be best for my tiny size. I do bark a bit when my family leaves for the day so I might not be a good neighbor in close quarters.I get along with other dogs and love people and children. I might be best in a home with children over 8 as I do tend to jump up on people which could be intimidating for small kids. I can be a little shy at first but quickly warm up and am a real snuggle buddy. I love to sniff people including their faces and hair but I am not a kisser. You may have noticed in my photos (my foster mom has tried to take lots of photos and videos, but I am just too fast!), I've got a bit of a stubby tail and missing my left eye. I wish I could talk to tell you the stories behind that!!! I don't let that get me down and have no mobility issues. I do get daily eyedrops in my right eye for chronic dry eye.If you love "Baked Beans" and want a tiny constant companion, then I am the one you are looking for!!! I can't help but make you smile! Please contact BROOD today!!! My adoption fee is $250.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Story
TIME SENSITIVE! SPECIAL NEEDS! Trisha needs a home SOON! Remember Trisha? She came to us from a shelter a couple months ago. She was hit by a car about 6 months before being taken to the shelter but her owner didn't take her to the vet. We quickly learned that she is incontinent because the end of her spinal cord is severed. Trisha is happy, and playful and loves attention. She is not good with cats or any dog who seems dominant at all and may be most successful as an only pet. She loves people and would most likely be just fine with kids! Trisha would be happy and manageable in a home with a fenced yard for her to spend the day in. She could wear a diaper to come inside for family time and sleep in a crate at night. She will be more prone to urinary tract infections and will need regular medical care. We love Trisha and hope we can find someone else who will adore her and be able to manage her needs. Trisha has been spayed and vaccinated and we are happy to waive her adoption fee. Trisha is about 4 years old and weighs about 45 pounds. Apply NOW at www.augustadogadoptions.org. Trisha is located near Staunton,Va.
