Story
Lexi Beech was surrendered to LA's Animal Care & Control's Baldwin Park Shelter by her owner for unknown reasons. Weighing just 31 lbs., Lexi is a petite pittie with a super sweet personality! Lexi went on a month-long Frosted Fling and received lots of TLC in the comfort of a home while we learned a lot about her. Her foster mom shared this wonderful report: "Lexi is a very cute grandma who is looking for soft beds, lots of treats, and butt scratches for her final years. I had her for a little over a month, and she was an easy addition to the household. She coexisted with multiple chill older dogs throughout her stay and was great with all people she met. She is deaf and almost blind, but don’t let that fool you- she’ll find you and food anywhere, anytime!! Lexi is really excited and playful when I first come through the door. It’s very cute! She’s a very different dog than the shy, quiet one I picked up. Lexi makes the cutest noises when you rub her ears just right, loves a bedtime snuggle, and and knows the best begging poses. Lexi didn’t seem to have much experience being on a leash. I got her a harness and she liked that better than the pressure on her neck. We worked on leash walking, and she was getting there! She will follow you anywhere if you have a treat, so that makes it easier. She doesn’t need much exercise at all. Lexi loves her food. She does a very cute happy dance when you hold her bowl and will follow you anywhere while you hold it. I fed her separate from my dog because she will wander and check out other bowls. It's also best to give her high value treats like bones separately. We did a lot of treat enrichment like treat scatters, snuffle mats, lick mats, and box puzzles. Lexi loved them all! She would get cute zoomies every night after a bedtime treat. Lexi is definitely ready for a forever family - come and get her!" Story
Little Chickpea arrived at Bonita Shelter with inflamed skin and hair loss due to a skin infection. When she was not claimed, we welcomed her as a Frosted Face on January 6th. Chickpea is estimated to be 14 years old and weighs just 13 pounds. She is a sweet little girl who is now safe, loved, and healing. We are thankful that Chickpea's skin is responding so well to antibiotics. Chickpea is currently on a two-week Frosted Fling, so we can learn more about her in a home environment while she receives lots of TLC. Her foster mom shared this update: "We have had Chickpea for a little over a week. and thankfully, her skin is doing much better. 😘 She is sweet and will give you little kisses on your nose when you pick her up. I feel like she is telling me thank you because she knows she needs help. 💤 She sleeps quite a bit. She needs to rest her old bones. Each day she is up a little bit more, sometimes following me around and sometimes just laying in her bad checking out the scenery. She sleeps through the night in a bed in our room. 🐾 She likes walks and doesn’t stop! She is a bit slow but with a retractable leash, she isn’t ever too far behind. She isn’t interested in other dogs on walks and will take pets. 🐈‍⬛ She is not interested in the cat at all! Even if the cat yells at her (for nothing), she isn’t phased. 🐶 She gets along well with our senior boy the same size but mostly keeps to herself. Chickpea deserves a soft place to spend her golden years. I’m not sure how she got in such rough shape, but she is definitely grateful now." Story
How this pet arrived: Roo was brought in by Field Service Officer on December 18, 2025.Why this pet is the one for you:Meet Roo! Roo is a little spring-loaded bundle of joy, ready to bounce through every adventure! She loves zoomies, playtime, and hopping around with excitement-when she's thrilled, she can't help but pop up on people, so she'll need a little guidance to polish her manners. As a growing pup, Roo is still learning the ropes of home life, so her future family should be ready to puppy-proof the house (those shoes won't protect themselves!), help with potty training, and guide her with positive reinforcement. Roo responds best to patience, praise, and treats earned the good-girl way. Roo has a loud heart murmur, and x-rays show an abnormal heart shape, which is most consistent with a congenital heart defect. A follow-up evaluation with a veterinary cardiologist is recommended to diagnose the specific condition and determine whether any treatment or monitoring options are available. Due to her heart condition, Roo may have a shortened lifespan, and she will do best with an adopter who understands her medical needs and is prepared to provide ongoing veterinary care. Full of curiosity, playful mischief, and snuggles when she's ready to rest, Roo is ready to leap, hop, and bounce her way into a loving home. Don't forget a leash and collar for all her adventures! At SDHS: Roo has been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed. Roo is now ready for her new home! Primary Color: Tri Color Weight: 34.2 Age: 0yrs 4mths 2wks
