Story
Ryder was saved after his owner threatened to shoot him for not being a good hunting dog. We had planned to keep him as a buddy for our beagle (our other passed away), however with the number of dogs in our rescue, it is only fair to Ryder to have a home of his own. He is a wonderful dog with typical beagle behavior. He was abused so I would not suggest small children or children who do not understand to pet softly. He loves to be loved on and is understanding that he is safe now. He is not a hunting dog and needs to be indoor. He is full-blooded but he did not come with papers (if that is important).

Story
Meet Maybelle-a gentle senior beagle looking for a soft place to land. I was originally adopted from ARPO in 2013. I lived with my human until my human passed away in 2025. Indianapolis Animal Care and Control took me in and contacted ARPO. I was very lucky that my original foster was able to take me back. It took a few months for me to get ready to be adopted. I had to go on a diet. I did need a complete dental work up because my teeth were not the greatest. But I did keep more teeth than my foster mom thought. I am a sweet, soulful senior beagle. As noted above, I lived with the same person my entire life. I do get a little confused with all of the changes. But my foster mom says that I have a big heart and quiet devotion to the people around me. My foster mom says that I am a classic beagle: gentle, affectionate, and happiest when I am near my humans. I enjoy leisurely sniff-filled walks, long naps in sunny spots, and curling up beside my human while reading or watching TV. I am not demanding (unless my human is late for my meal-times). I am just grateful for companionship and kindness. I have wonderful house manners. I prefer a calm, predictable environment. Maybelle would do best with someone who understands the beauty of a senior dog: the slower pace, the wisdom in her eyes, and the deep gratitude she has for love. She is friendly with people and lived peacefully as a single dog. She would probably do well with another mellow canine friend. In her foster home, she lives with other more active dogs. Maybelle has already loved deeply and lost and now she is hoping for a second chance-a quiet home, a comfy bed, and someone who will love her for the rest of her days. In return, Maybelle promises unwavering loyalty, gentle companionship and the kind of love only a senior dog can give. If you believe that every chapter matters--and the golden years can be the most meaningful--Maybelle is waiting for you.   If you are interested in adopting an ARPO pet, please visit our website at arporescue.org to learn more about our adoption process and complete our adoption application. ARPO limits adoptions to within 50 miles of Indianapolis. We do not have a shelter; all pets are in volunteer foster homes.

Story
Meet Tessa! A 3 year old beagle English bulldog mix. I guess one of them designer Mutts. Beautiful dog indeed she is but..... Takes a very patient , willing, and very understanding person to adopt Tessa. Sadly she has had 3 homes and everyone quit as she was all over the map (she is much better now). She does it all and has no care as she does NOT HIDE WHEN DOING NAUGHTY THINGS. She is a total sweet heart. Bless her heart! She is just mischievous as hell! We are working hard to eliminate those awful behaviors. All while on a strict diet and lots of exercise through out the day. In the last few months she has lost good weight (she was too fat), has learned, and accepts correction, and progress is being made with basic obedience training. She is great when asked to stay still for baths, nail trimming, teeth brushing, ear cleaning finally! She is cat, dog, and kid friendly too! Tessa is house and crate trained, up to date on all appropriate core vaccines including lepto, rabies, dewormed, fecal tested negative, microchipped, neutered, and on monthly heartworm flea/tick prevention. Updated: 2/1/2023 www.animalhousesanctuary.org We believe training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues that arise, need to be addressed and/or rewarded. Understanding that continued training is a lifetime commitment, is very important. Out-of-state adopters are welcome at the adopter's expense. Meet & Greets are a required before proceeding with an adoption. We DO NOT ship any of our pets.

Story
Meet Karai!!! Karai is a 5-year-old, beagle TWCH beagle mix, who's been with us since fall 2020. Karai came to us transferred in from another rescue. She was extremely feral, supposedly. With time she showed us she is timid and shy but curiosity gets the best of her, always. Karai needs a home that will, embrace her curiosity, encourage her and not feel bad or sorry for her. She needs patience and nurturing, but an environment where she will not be held back nor limited. Be confident it's all okay. Every day is new to her as she improves. We do not shelter her or take any outrageous precautions to accommodate her insecurities. We encourage and expose her and introduce her to as many things, places, toys, food, locations, and adventures as possible. She is thriving and continues to thrive and improve every day! Karai is great with all dogs. She is best in the home with other dogs. She can be very playful with all dogs, and respectful of cats. Older kids would be best, if any. Karai loves her daily walks, a nice fence in the yard 4 ft minimum is a must, and a home with at least one other balanced, active, playful outgoing dog who will help her continue to overcome her fears is preferred. Karai is very food motivated. Oh, man is she ever! Loves all food! She is still a bit jumpy but each day we notice improvement. Patience is the key to best helping her be the best dog she was meant to be. Plus she's so sweet and calm and best of all LAZZZYYY! Karai is house and crate trained, up to date on all appropriate core vaccines including lepto and corona as well as rabies, dewormed, fecal tested negative, microchipped including free registration, spay, and current on monthly heartworm flea/tick prevention.
