Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Zamira! This sweet girl may start off a bit shy, but she is quick to warm up and once she does she's all wags and wiggles. Zamira gets along well with other dogs, although like with people, she prefers a proper introduction before she gets playful. But once she opens up, she's super sweet and affectionate, making her an instant favorite in any home. Zamira's crate is her sanctuary where she feels most comfortable. She sleeps and eats in her crate without a fuss. Speaking of eating, Zamira loves her food and treats, and mealtime is definitely the highlight of her day. Out in the yard, Zamira is a curious explorer, though she does enjoy a good dig. It will be important to keep an eye on her when outside so she doesn't get into any trouble if she decides to dig! When it comes to affection, Zamira is all in. She wiggles her whole body with excitement when she sees people and eagerly rolls over for belly rubs at their command. Plus, she gives the best hugs and loves nothing more than cuddling up with her favorite humans. Zamira is truly the best girl ever, she loves being with others but also is comfortable with some alone time in her crate. If you're in search of a loving and loyal companion who's as sweet as can be, look no further than Zamira. Zamira is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 5/17/2024 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. One big thing you should know is they are heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting them! After they undergo treatment for their condition they will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease. Because they need treatment, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) program. Click here to learn more about this program. They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity ‘restrictions’ which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you. Click here to learn more about heartworm disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application.
