Story
Meet Pumpkin: From Feral to Fabulous. When Pumpkin first arrived, she was a ghost of a dog—shut down, unsure, and utterly heartbroken. She was 9 months old when we saved her and her sister from a high-kill shelter in LA. They were the tiniest dogs we'd ever seen. They were like real-life stuffed animals. When Pumpkin first arrived, she was only 24 lbs at 9 months old! She was so shut down, avoiding eye contact for the fear of being noticed, and moved like a shadow, silent and scared. But even then, there was a spark in her eyes, a tiny ember of hope. Now, at ruffly 1 y/o, this Malinois mix who had only learned that the world was a scary place is now thriving in her foster home. With time, patience, and the gentle guidance of her foster fur siblings, Pumpkin is learning what it means to feel safe. She’s learning that hands can offer LUV, that voices can be kind, and that not all humans are to be feared. Her progress is nothing short of remarkable—day by day, step by step, she’s beginning to let LUV in. Pumpkin LUVS other dogs. They are her comfort zone. Her role models and her security blankets. A confident canine friend in her furever home will help her continue to blossom. She’s still shy with people, but give her time and space, and she’ll reward you with the most beautiful kind of loyalty and LUV. Pumpkin is ready for a family who sees past her ruff beginning and into the heart of a survivor. Someone who will celebrate the little wins: the first tail wag, the first nuzzle, the first moment she chooses you. She’s not just learning to live. She’s learning to trust. And that makes her story one of the most beautiful we’ve ever told. Pumpkin is looking for a forever home with: Another friendly dog (or dogs) to show her the ropes A calm, patient environment A family that believes in second chances This is Pumpkin’s redemption story. Want to help her write the next chapter? Fill out an application to meet Pumpkin and your new furever LUV!

Story
How King arrived:King was brought in by a community member on January 16, 2026. Why King is the one for you:Meet King - a high‑octane dog with tons of potential and a whole royal court's worth of enthusiasm. He's social, affectionate with his handlers, and eager to work, but he's also still learning how to manage all that big‑dog energy - especially when left alone or when other dogs get a little too close for comfort. With the right structure, enrichment, and guidance, this smart boy will absolutely shine. King can get a little too creative with a car seat and couch when left alone, so he'll thrive with an adopter who can help him build confidence, introduce alone‑time gradually, and provide plenty of mental and physical outlets. Puzzle toys, sniffing games, long-lasting chews, training sessions, and daily adventures will help keep his mind busy and his paws out of trouble. He's shown reactivity around some dogs - especially during up‑close greetings - so if you have another pup at home, we strongly recommend compatible playstyles and taking introductions slowly. Across‑the‑street sightings usually get only a glance and a loose tail, but face‑to‑face meetings can be overwhelming for him. Cats are an unknown, and given King's energy level, any feline roommate will need high shelves, safe retreat spaces, and slow introductions. With people, King is a total softie and eager to say hello. He walks well on leash (a little fast at times!), and enjoys car rides like a champ. Bring a leash and collar when you come to meet him, and get ready to meet a handsome, bright, eager boy who just needs the right castle to call home.At SDHS:King has been vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. Primary Color: Brown Secondary Color: Black Weight: 63.25 Age: 1yrs 11mths 2wks

Story
The Chance of a Lifetime! Hi pals! I’m Chance — a 2-year-old, 87-pound German Shepherd with a heart full of hope and a whole lot of love. My name isn’t just a name…it’s a promise. After everything I’ve been through, I’m here because someone gave me a second chance — and now I’m hoping you will too! I didn’t have the easiest start. I came from a place where I was chained up, starving, and left to chew whatever I could just to survive — rocks, concrete, whatever was near. By the time I was rescued, I was in ruff shape: malnourished, in pain, swollen with abscesses, and with most of my teeth broken down to the gum. TAP saw something in me. They gave me months of medical care, multiple surgeries, and more love than I’d ever known. Today? I’m healthy, pain-free, and finally able to enjoy life the way a dog should. Health-wise, I’ve got a couple of things to keep in mind. I have a heart condition that makes me sensitive to anesthesia — nothing scary day-to-day, but any future procedures need an experienced vet who’ll monitor my cardiovascular health. I don’t need meds, just awareness. I eat a soft diet but you’d never know it watching me chow down — especially with how excited I get (expect a little dance and song)! Despite everything I’ve been through, I’m the happiest boy. I love dogs — every shape, size, and energy level — and I’d do great with another playful pup! I haven’t been around many kids, but I’ve been super sweet with the ones I’ve met. I’m goofy, submissive, and always up for a game of tug-of-war or some zoomies at the park. When it’s time to relax you’ll find me curled up on the couch, tongue hanging out (I don’t have many teeth left to keep it in!). I’m potty trained and I’ll admit — I pull on the leash when I get excited, but I’m eager! I’ve been through a lot, and I do best in a home where someone is around most of the time or where I’ve got a doggy buddy to hang out with. I’m still healing emotionally and companionship means the world to me. Why take a chance on me? I’ve already shown what resilience looks like. I’ve been failed by humans before, but I still love them with everything I’ve got. I’m goofy, loyal, and full of gratitude for every belly rub and cozy nap. I deserve to finally feel safe, cherished, and free to just be a dog! If you’re ready to be the lucky one who gives me my second “Chance,” I promise I’ll be the most devoted, loving companion you’ve ever met! My adoption fee is $250 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/ ##2197184##

Story
Hi, I’m Kabru! I’m a 3-year-old, 73-pound German Shepherd mix with a big personality and an even bigger heart. My journey started at Pasadena Humane as part of a fire relief effort before I made my way to TAP. I spent about three months in the shelter before getting my second chance, and now I’m ready to find my forever home! I’m a lovable, high-energy goofball who’s always ready for fun! I’m smart, affectionate, and love being the center of attention—but I’ll admit, I can be a little mischievous too (in the most charming way, of course). I thrive in an active home that keeps me engaged, and while I sometimes struggle with focus and have a little separation anxiety, I have so much potential! I’d do great with structure, training, and even a job to keep me busy. Whether it’s a long hike, a trip to the brewery, or an evening walk by the bay, I’m always up for an adventure! I’m already crate, leash, and potty trained, though I’m still working on getting even better on leash. Some of my favorite things? Kongs, tug-of-war, and long sniffy walks! I’m looking for an active family who has the time and patience to help me grow into the best companion I can be. I’d love a home with older kids and larger dog friends who can keep up with my energy and help show me how to be a polite gentleman. With the right guidance and plenty of playtime, I know I’ll make an amazing adventure buddy and loyal best friend. Could that be you? My adoption fee is $350 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/ ##2276548##
