Fable is ready for her forever home. She's kennel trained and gets along well with dogs and cats. Lots of playful energy in this sweet dog! Currently this sweet baby is with our rescue, The Artemis Project, in Arkansas. We DO, however, transport monthly to the metro Detroit area of MI. Because we’re able to transport, we ARE able to accept adoption applications directly from residents of MI. Why do we transport? Because animal overpopulation is severe in our region, and stray and unwanted dogs have very little chance of finding a home here. These babies are, however, at a high risk of being neglected, abused, abandoned, euthanized or even shot (it’s “the way things are done” for some people down here). YOU are truly one of the only safe and happy endings for the lucky ones we are able to rescue. Upon approval of your adoption application, we will then transport your new furbaby to you in the metro Detroit area for just a small travel expense fee of $50 in addition to the adoption fee. If you`re looking for a dog who wants nothing more than to be by your side, Ricotta might be your girl. This sweet girl absolutely loves her people and would happily spend all day snuggling with you. If you`re cooking, she`s in the kitchen. If you`re relaxing on the couch, she`s right underneath you. If you`re sleeping, she wants to be curled up beside you. Basically, wherever you are, Ricotta wants to be!She has the sweetest way of asking for affection, too. Stop petting her and she`ll turn her head, give you those big `sad eyes,` and gently nudge your hand to let you know you`re not finished yet. And if you ask Ricotta for a hug, she`ll give you one! She loves being close to her people and isn`t shy about showing it.Ricotta is also wonderfully polite in the house. She doesn`t jump on furniture and seems to know that couches and beds are off-limits. She loves going for walks and gets incredibly excited when she hears it`s time to go outside. She is still working on her manners around other dogs, but she has already made tremendous progress and continues to learn.Ricotta is not comfortable around other pets, so she would need to be the only furry friend in your home. Ricotta is also being treated for heartworm, which are parasitic worms in the right ventricle of the heart and nearby blood vessels. Heartworm is transmitted from one dog to another by mosquitoes and can be easily prevented using monthly heartworm preventative, but once the disease is contracted the treatment process can be quite intensive. Ricotta will need to remain sedentary with minimal activity during the treatment process to ensure a healthy recovery. There is additional information on heartworm disease and treatment available at our Adoption Desk. The heartworm injections for treatment are covered by HSHV, but there may be additional costs associated with clinical care.Ricotta is currently living in one of our wonderful foster homes. Meet Oliver or as we call him, Ollie! Ollie’s journey hasn’t been easy. When he was first rescued, he was nearly hairless and suffering from painful, mange ridden skin (see last photo). He had been on the euthanasia list at a municipal shelter. A volunteer and a foster fell in love with him, a rescue said yes, and hence started Ollie’s healing journey. Fast forward a few months, he is a handsome, happy, and full of life boy! Most of his fur has grown back beautifully, though he still has a bald patch around his neck and shoulders that may never fully regrow. But honestly, It just adds to his charm. His glow-up is truly something special. Ollie is one of the sweetest dogs you’ll ever meet. His fosters call him their “golden child” because he’s just about perfect. Ollie is fantastic with every person he meets, including kids, and he absolutely adores other dogs. Ollie is both potty trained and kennel trained. He loves playing with other dogs, chewing on toys, going on walks, car rides, and just chilling. His foster family absolutely adores him, and watching him blossom has been nothing short of heartwarming. Ollie does need weekly baths to keep his skin healthy but they are quick and easy, and he is very cooperative. He is estimated to be around 6-7 years old and weighs about 55 lbs.
