🐾 Meet Hazel! 💕 Your Next Adventure Buddy! 🐾 Hazel is being fostered in Mississippi, but included in your adoption fee is transport to you by Rescue Riders Pet Transport which is the most animal friendly transport on the road! Hazel is a 5-year-old girl who is smart, athletic, affectionate, and FULL of personality! She’s the kind of dog who is always ready to go do something fun—and then happily settle in beside you when the day is done. ❤️. Hazel currently lives with another large dog and does okay, but we think she would do best as an only dog Hazel is looking for someone who will appreciate her fun-loving, energetic personality and give her opportunities to run, explore, play, ride along, and be part of the family. If you're the type of person who says, “Want to go for a hike?” instead of “Want to stay home?”—Hazel may be your girl! 🥾🐾❤️ Hazel can be very excited when her person comes home, but the good news is that she settles down quickly. Because of that enthusiasm, she may be a little too exuberant for very young or small children and could accidentally knock them over. Hazel is ready to find her forever adventure partner! 🏡💗 She is a very amazing dog, but cats and small animals are a big no for Hazel. 🏡 House-trained and trustworthy when left loose in the house 🛋️ Doesn’t tear things up when left alone during the day 🛏️ Would happily sleep with her person 🎾 LOVES playing with balls 🚗 LOVES going for rides 🥾 Would absolutely love a hike or outdoor adventure with an active person 🧠 Smart and eager to be involved 😍 Loves everyone—she definitely does NOT meet a stranger! Your adoption fee includes transport to a location near you by Rescue Riders Transport! Please message us if you are interested in adopting this sweet girl!

Story
Rosemary! What can we say about this sweet little girl? Well, she is ALL puppy, very much a working breed and needs to be kept busy. She is super smart but also really silly and dopey at the same time. She is sweet as pie, adores dogs and needs a dog to help her with confidence as she can be quite shy initially. She loves to wrestle with dogs, tennis balls are her jam and she will work for balls or treats. She lives with a 7 year old human and is great, she is teething so need to watch those ankles, legs and hands, but she redirects well and is a keen listener. While she is a wonderful dog, she is a GSD/Malinois mix, so she will need an active family with a yard, preferably someone who can run with her and provide training and guidance, these dogs are not coach potatoes (although she is a great snuggler)! Rosemary is 11 weeks old, will be spayed on the 16th Oct, its on age appropriate vaccines, fecal tested and mircochipped. She lives with 5 cats and 5 dogs and is great with all of them! Story
Meet Enzo!At roughly 8 months old, Enzo is a young German Shepherd-type pup with what we suspect may be some Belgian Malinois mixed in—and if you`re familiar with either breed, you probably already know where this is going. ??Enzo is incredibly intelligent, eager to learn, and absolutely packed with potential. This boy already has a whole lot of trainable wires connected; he just needs someone who knows how to help him use them. And then there`s the Maligator side of Enzo. When Enzo gets excited, he gets REALLY excited. That`s when you`ll see his jumpy, mouth-forward behavior come out. This isn`t constant puppy chewing or sweet little teething nibbles, and Enzo isn`t walking around all day looking for something—or someone—to put in his mouth. Instead, his mouthiness tends to show up alongside his jumping when his excitement level shoots through the roof. It`s almost as though his brain is yelling, `I NEED SOMETHING TO DO WITH ALL OF THIS!` and his mouth is one of the first tools he reaches for to communicate it.It isn`t aggressive behavior, but we also don`t want to downplay it as harmless little puppy nibbles. Enzo is a growing working-breed dog, and boundaries matter. He needs someone comfortable recognizing when he`s getting overexcited, redirecting that energy appropriately, and consistently teaching him what we`d rather he do instead. And honestly? That`s where Enzo really shines. He listens beautifully to correction and genuinely wants to engage with his people. He`s smart as a whip, and once you give that busy brain some direction, you can practically watch the wheels start turning. With continued training, structure, mental enrichment, and appropriate physical activity, we think this boy could be an absolutely incredible companion.Because we want Enzo`s next home to be his forever home, we strongly prefer an adopter with German Shepherd, Belgian Malinois, or similar working-breed experience. These breeds are brilliant and deeply rewarding, but they can also be a LOT of dog when their brains and bodies aren`t being given enough to do. Enzo isn`t looking for someone who simply fell in love with his picture—he`s looking for someone who will fall in love with everything that comes along with him.And trust us, that picture is going to get you.Enzo has some of the most striking coloring we`ve ever seen on a shepherd. His ghostly gray face and those piercing eyes are genuinely showstoppers. He`s beautiful, he`s goofy, he`s wildly smart, he`s still learning his manners, and yes—he`s currently a 100% purebred Maligator. ??If you`re looking for an easy, already-finished dog, Enzo probably isn`t your guy. But if working with a brilliant young dog, building a relationship through training, and watching all that untapped potential turn into something amazing sounds like your idea of fun?Enzo might be exactly the dog you`ve been waiting for.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------If you would like to meet Enzo, please submit an application for him on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. He is neutered, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. His adoption fee is $300, which covers part of the medical care she will receive.**Please note that the breed listed for each of our dogs is a rough estimate unless DNA results are provided in their Bio. All strays have rough estimates of their age based on the condition of their teeth. Each dog is different, so each adoption is different. Our adoption process might require multiple visits to the shelter before our dogs can go home. Or they may be ready on the first visit. It really depends on the individual dog and the potential adopters. Once we receive your application, the Dog Staff will contact you to discuss meeting our dogs.

Story
Meet Luca!At approximately 4 months old, Luca is a young shepherd mix with a whole lot going for him—and now that he`s spending time in a foster home, we`re getting an even better look at the dog this little guy is becoming. And guys? He`s such a good boy.Luca is playful, incredibly sweet, wicked smart, and already showing us just how quickly that little shepherd brain can learn. He`s the kind of puppy who`s perfectly happy hanging out in the backyard while you`re doing yard work, but he`s equally ready to play, learn something new, or investigate whatever interesting thing you happen to be doing. His foster family has been working hard on building his confidence, and he`s making progress every day. Stairs were initially a little intimidating, but Luca can now confidently come in and out through their back slider and tackle them with just a little encouragement here and there.Training-wise, this kid is already building quite the résumé! Luca currently knows sit, down, drop, wait, and stop/look, and he`s working on leave it, stay, and heel. He`s also learning that manners apply even when something VERY exciting is happening—like dinner. He knows he`s expected to sit nicely and wait until his food bowl is completely on the ground before he`s released to eat. Sometimes it takes a reset or two, but he`s catching on quickly. And that`s probably one of the most important things to know about Luca:He`s smart enough that consistency really matters. If one person says the rule is A and another says the rule is B, Luca is absolutely taking notes. His foster family has been setting boundaries, asking for calm behavior, and making sure good choices are what get rewarded—and he`s responding beautifully. What is Luca like at home?Luca is doing really well in his kennel. He may occasionally bark or whine, but his foster family waits for him to become quiet and settled before letting him out, and he`s learning the routine quickly.Potty training is still a work in progress, as we`d expect from a puppy his age. Luca doesn`t necessarily walk to the door or bark when he needs to go. Instead, he tends to start pacing the house—especially when he needs to poop. His foster family has had the most success taking him outside whenever he comes out of his kennel and keeping him on a consistent schedule. He`s had an occasional accident, so his future family should expect to continue working on this with him rather than assuming he`s fully housebroken just yet.Luca also has some wonderfully calm moments and LOVES soft toys. Those puppy teeth are still very much present, though, and sometimes he needs a reminder that the soft toy is a significantly better place to put them than, say, the couch. He`s responding well to redirection and is working hard on making good puppy choices. He recently went through his neuter like a champ, has been easy to medicate, and apparently believes chewing one`s food before swallowing it is an entirely unnecessary extra step. What about cats?Luca`s foster home has a resident cat, Toby, which has given us an opportunity to see how Luca behaves around one.Luca is definitely interested in the cat. Toby is significantly less interested in Luca.So far, Luca`s interest appears to be that of a busy, curious puppy who would very much like to investigate and potentially make a new friend. His foster family can redirect him away from Toby with a trip outside, a toy, or another activity, and they`re actively working on “leave it.”That doesn`t mean we`d call Luca completely cat-trained just yet. Any home with a cat should be prepared to continue teaching boundaries, supervise interactions, and make sure the resident cat has puppy-free spaces while everyone adjusts. And then there`s the T-Rex phase...Right now, Luca is an unusually lovely little shepherd puppy. He`s playful without being completely chaotic, eager to learn, affectionate, and already showing us how much potential he has.But do not let the angelic shepherd-puppy phase fool you. Those of us who know shepherds know that adolescence can bring boundary testing, selective hearing, newfound confidence, and the occasional realization that perhaps the household would operate more efficiently if the dog were promoted to management. They will happily accept this promotion despite possessing absolutely none of the necessary qualifications. The next year or two will be incredibly important for Luca. Continued training, consistent boundaries, socialization, mental enrichment, physical activity, and routine will help turn all of that intelligence and potential into one heck of an adult dog.Luca would thrive with a family who wants their dog to be part of their life—walks, adventures, training, backyard hangouts, enrichment, and plenty of time together. And just as importantly, someone willing to continue teaching him that sometimes being part of the family means settling down and doing absolutely nothing.More than anything, Luca needs someone ready to raise him, not just have him. He`s already showing us how much he`s capable of learning when the humans around him are clear and consistent. If you`re ready to keep building on that foundation, laugh through the inevitable teenage shepherd nonsense, and help this sweet little dude grow into the dog he`s capable of becoming, Luca might just be your guy.The T-Rex years don`t last forever. The dog you build through them is absolutely worth it.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------If you would like to meet Luca, please submit an application for him on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. He is neutered, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.
