Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Tide and his siblings were saved from a high-kill shelter in Calfornia and arrived at Give a Dog a Home Rescue in Sebec, Maine on Wednesday 3rd August.  We post our adoptable dogs across the East Coast and Canada so we can reach as many amazing adopters as possible and match each dog with their perfect home. Please note: We do not transport dogs. Approved adopters will schedule an appointment for a meet-and-greet at People 'n' Pets, Freeze Dried Goodies & Gear in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, where you’ll get to meet Tide in person — and hopefully take home your new best friend. If you think Tide might be “the one,” we’d love to hear from you! Health & Background &#226&#156&#133 Neutered &#226&#156&#133 Rabies and all core vaccines up to date &#226&#156&#133 Heartworm/Tick 4DX test: Negative across the board &#226&#156&#133 On monthly flea/tick preventatives &#226&#156&#133 Microchipped &#226&#154&#150&#239&#184&#143 Weight: potential 50-60 pounds Estimated DoB: 23 May 2025 Meet Tide Tide is truly an amazing boy. He has a full package of looks, personality, and yes — he’s a master manipulator! Even after multiple visits to the emergency hospital in Southern Maine, all the staff fell in love with him. One vet even emailed his information to a colleague in New Hampshire just to share what a special pup he is. Medical Background As a young puppy, Tide developed weakness in his legs and, at one point, couldn’t stand or walk. After several trips to the emergency hospital and various treatments, he was diagnosed with two growth-related bone conditions: Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy (HOD) and Panosteitis. Panosteitis (sometimes called “growing pains”) is a temporary, painful inflammation of the long bones that affects young, fast-growing dogs, particularly large-breed mixes like Tide. Symptoms include shifting lameness and discomfort in the legs. Panosteitis is self-limiting, meaning it usually resolves on its own as the dog matures, typically by 18–24 months. Treatment focuses on managing pain and rest during flare-ups. Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy (HOD) is another painful bone condition seen in fast-growing puppies. It can cause fever, swelling, thickened bones, lameness, and general discomfort. The exact cause isn’t fully understood, but genetics, nutrition, and infections may all play a role. Most dogs improve as they finish growing, and severe cases are treated with medications, rest, and sometimes hospitalization. Surgery is rarely needed. Tide is currently on prednisone to manage inflammation and pain, and he is thriving! Prednisone is generally used during flare-ups or when symptoms are more pronounced. As he grows and his bones stabilize, he may not need medication continuously — likely only intermittently for temporary stiffness during growth spurts. By around 2 years old, he is expected to be completely done with active symptoms from both conditions. Even when he couldn’t walk as a puppy, Tide’s sweet personality shone through. He would drag himself around to enjoy attention from vets and staff, and now he’s a playful, confident, and mischievous pup. He sometimes gets a little stiff during growth spurts, but these flare-ups are temporary, and he responds well to medication and rest. Personality & Temperament Tide is a gentle, loving, and affectionate pup. He’s full of confidence and mischief, loves attention, and thrives in an active environment. Despite his medical history, he is playful, curious, and completely puppy at heart. He enjoys interacting with people and other dogs, and he’s always ready to bring joy and energy into his home. Best Buddies Tide is inseparable from his sister Robin. Whether cuddling up for naps or getting into mischief, these two are always together. We would love to see them adopted as a pair so they can continue sharing adventures and companionship in their forever home. Adoption Details Adoption Fee: $550 Location: Sebec, Maine Families must complete and submit an adoption questionnaire. Once approved, you’ll be invited to schedule an appointment to meet Tide. &#226&#143&#177&#239&#184&#143 Applications are generally processed within 24-48 hours Click here to complete the Adoption Questionnaire Want to See More of Tide? Story
Meet Carter! Carter is a 3-year-old, 53lb pitbull mix with the sweetest heart and the silliest smile. This excited, loving boy has been waiting for over a year for someone to notice him—and he is so ready to finally find his forever person. Carter is the kind of dog who just wants to be someone’s best friend. He loves treats, hugs, toys, and anyone willing to appreciate his goofy, playful personality. He does great with other dogs (we recommend slow introductions) and would love a doggy sibling to romp around with—but he’d also be perfectly happy soaking up all the love as your one and only. It’s hard to believe no one has scooped him up yet, but that just means his perfect match is still out there. Carter is located in Houston, TX, and transport is included in his adoption fee—so he can travel straight to you! If you’re looking for a loyal, fun-loving companion who will shower you with unconditional love, Carter is your guy.

Story
Major is a 5-year-old male Belgian Malinois. He is loyal, playful, and extremely high energy. He loves to play and needs a very active, structured home. He knows basic commands (sit, down, paw) but needs continued training. He pulls hard on leash and jumps when excited. He is good with other dogs, but not good with kids or cats. This rehoming is being handled on behalf of my father, his owner, as we can no longer meet his high exercise needs. Ideal home: experienced Malinois owner, very active lifestyle, no kids or cats. Message if you have breed experience and can provide the right home. Two of his pictures are a little old but he still looks basically the same just some white hairs on his snout now.

Story
IDGSR Welcomes NOVA into the safety of the rescue!! THIS DOG IS FOSTERED IN TENNESSEE & AVAILABLE FOR TRANSPORT ************** Hiya Friends! My name is Nova and I'm a sweet 4-6yr old female Shepherd/Malinois mix gal. I am located near Nashville TN and will be available for transport. Quick Facts: Age - 4-6yrs old Kids - will do fine with older kids (10+) Dogs - good with large male dogs Cats - NO cats Training - needs standard obedience training 1. My story is pretty sad. I was chained to a tree with no interaction, used for breeding. I had my last litter of puppies (all have been adopted) and now it's my turn! 2. My foster mom estimates my age to be about 4-6yrs old. We aren't quite sure but because of my hard upbringing, I have a little more gray on my face. 3. I enjoy taking walks, exploring in the backyard, playing with other large breed dogs, and resting with my foster mom. 4. I would love to find a person/family who will take me on walks, tell me I'm the bestest girl in the world, and show me what a loving family really is. 5. I could benefit from obedience training. I'm a cross between two very intelligent breeds so I'll catch on super quick. Also, training will help us bond! 6. If you are looking for a resilient, loving, friendly, sweet, and loyal new companion - I'm your girl! **SERIOUS APPLICANTS ONLY!
