This young German Shepherd mix has already written himself quite the comedy script. Picture this: a scrappy little wanderer roaming the streets of Palestine, TX, working up the courage to approach a stranger at a gas station. His sweet face looked up and he asked for help—and jackpot! The nice man popped him into his truck, and our pup promptly passed out for eight solid hours. That’s right, eight hours. He snoozed so hard you’d think he was auditioning for a mattress commercial. When he woke up, surprise! He was in a foster home with new friends, toys, and all the belly rubs he could dream of. Since then, he’s been making up for lost time with turbo-charged puppy energy: running, fetching, chewing, and barking like he’s got his own talk show. He’s especially fond of tug-of-war and wrestling—basically, if it’s rowdy, he’s in. Food is still a big deal for him (hey, when you’ve had to fight for scraps, you don’t just forget). He’s learning to share, but let’s be honest—food is delicious and worth fighting for! With a little training, though, he’ll be the perfect gentleman at mealtime. Mowgli – Male Shepherd/Akita Mix | Approx. DOB: 02/27/2024 | ~65 lbs Mowgli is a 1-year-old Shepherd/Akita mix (~65 lbs) who is really coming into his own in foster care. As he gets more comfortable, his playful, affectionate personality shines brighter every day. This handsome boy loves to play—whether it’s tug-of-war, entertaining himself with toys, or a game of fetch (he’s still working on bringing it back). He’s also a great jogging companion and happily keeps pace, making him a perfect match for an active home. Mowgli does great with other dogs and enjoys having canine friends. He can get a little excited when meeting new dogs, so slow, calm introductions help set him up for success. With people, Mowgli may be a bit shy at first—but once he warms up, he is incredibly sweet, gentle, and loyal. He’s done very well with his foster family, including children. He appears to be house trained and is currently working on crate training. He may protest briefly at first, but he settles nicely and continues to improve each day. Cash came to the rescue when the shelter sent him to have his fractured leg amputated at our vet clinic. He had been shot, and we have no idea of the other abuse he had suffered, but he is initially afraid of new men (fine once he learns they mean him no harm). While he is not an aggressive boy, he acts as if he could tear into someone, which can be off-putting. He is fine with women, loving, outgoing, and cuddly, especially with his foster mom. We are helping him work onhis fear, which can/will be resolved with patience and TLC.Cash lives with lots of other dogs and gets along with everyone, large and small. He is playful and happy, can be as gentle or rough as needed, depending on who he is playing with. He walks fine on a leash and is good at going for rides when he gets a chance.He is crate trained and asks to go out if needed between potty breaks. He generally has good house manners, except when he counter-surfs for food when the opportunity presents itself.Cash is fully vetted, current with vaccines, neutered, microchipped, and on flea and tick, as well as heartworm, prevention.
