Story

MEET SIERRA! Sierra is a 5-year-old, approx. 90-pound Bernese/Anatolian mix girl who came from a family in Montana who were unable to give her the care and attention she needs. She was kept outside too much, but her rescuers have been working with her, integrating her into their foster family with dog walks, belly rubs, brushing sessions and lots of love. Sierra is a working/herding/guard dog but is also a very cuddly teddy bear who loves people and has done well around children. She does have protective/guarding tendencies that seem to have been exacerbated by her situation at her former home. We think she'd do best in a house with a fenced yard, and without other dogs or pets. However, she has also made HUGE progress on her dog walks and will benefit from ongoing training. Sierra loves being brushed, hanging out with her people and getting lots of belly rubs. She is a very sweet girl and would make a great companion for the right person! For more info and/or to apply to adopt Sierra, send us an email at SummitDogRescue@gmail.com, telling us a bit about yourself, your home environment and your lifestyle. A volunteer will get back to you shortly.

Story

There's something so special about rescuing a dog who needs you. Meet Finn! Finn is believed to be about 2 years old and is 58 lbs. Finn is a stunning Greater Swiss Mountain Dog / Bernese Mountain Dog mix according to the Texas vets. We do not DNA test rescue dogs, but he certainly looks the part! We rescued Finn from euthanasia in a high-kill shelter in Houston, and he is now thriving in his foster home in Boulder. From Finn’s foster: “Finn is a LOVER! He is so sweet and friendly and just kisses everyone he meets! He has young dog energy and is very playful. Loves to play with us and our dog. He really likes playing with other dogs and LOVES our dog and is very friendly, however he doesn't like to share food and toys (that is the Texas street dog in him, I'm sure!) so if he goes to a home with another dog, they just need to be comfortable with the fact that the dogs just can't share toys and need to eat separated. He walks well on leash and loves to adventure! He is crate trained, and totally potty trained! He is very young and puppy like and needs someone who has time to play with him. He’s a love bug!!” Finn has a stunning coat that has been compromised by the harsh conditions of a high-kill Texas shelter. His coloring is gorgeous, the darkest black mixed in with beautiful chestnut colors throughout his coat. Finn (like all dogs) will require a lifelong commitment to periodic baths / brushing and excellent nutrition. A 5 star dog food and daily salmon oil supplement are great choices for hair care and longevity to keep Finn's coat cottony-soft and shining with good health. Current research is very clear that the best diet we can provide for our pets is a fresh, human grade diet. Farfel's recommends Chi Diet (chidog.com) due to our personal experience with our own dogs. It's one of the most important choices we make for our dogs great health and longevity. Finn is a young, healthy dog who will love a kind and respectful dog-crazy family with all his heart. He would also enjoy another gentle dog to play with and then to lie together in the sunshine enjoying a beautiful day. Finn will also do really well as on only dog. He's a quieter guy who gets overlooked because he never causes any problems and tends to stay in the background away from the chaos of the shelter. Farfel's Rescue would like to see Finn in a home where he'll get consistent mental stimulation, exercise and tons of loving hugs. A positive reinforcement / force free group training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence for a young guy whose self-esteem will fly high while he masters his skills. Farfel's feels so strongly about training for all dogs that we're unwilling to adopt to a family who doesn't choose to give Finn this opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement / force free trainers in your area. We're currently searching for a very loving, nurturing and committed family for our wonderful Finn. Applications are being accepted for this loyal and devoted best friend and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** Farfel's Rescue makes many efforts to place our dogs with families that are excellent matches. We do this through our Farfel's Rescue application found at the link above or at farfels.com (never through rescue site apps such as Adoptapet or Petfinder as they don't provide enough information). If you're truly interested in adopting Finn please be sure to fill out the Farfel's Rescue adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving guy. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit a Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
