There's something so special about rescuing a dog who needs you. Meet Finn! Finn is believed to be about 2 years old and is 58 lbs. Finn is a stunning Bernese Mountain Dog / Greater Swiss Mountain mix according to the Texas vets. We do not DNA test rescue dogs, but he certainly looks the part! We rescued Finn from euthanasia in a high-kill shelter in Houston, and he is now thriving in his foster home in Boulder. From Finn’s foster: “Finn is fun!! He has young dog energy and is very playful. Loves to play with us and our dog. He does great with our dog. He just needs to eat separately because he does not like to share his food with us or our dog. I figure that’s just from living on the streets and having to scavenge for his food! He walks well on leash (gets a bit excited and could use a bit of training, as he is just a young guy), he sleeps in his crate at night, and hasn’t had any potty accidents (or marking!) in the house! He is very young and puppy like and needs someone who understands he needs some basic training, but he’s a love bug!!” Finn has a stunning coat that has been compromised by the harsh conditions of a high-kill Texas shelter. His coloring is gorgeous, the darkest black mixed in with beautiful chestnut colors throughout his coat. Finn (like all dogs) will require a lifelong commitment to periodic baths / brushing and excellent nutrition. A 5 star dog food and daily salmon oil supplement are great choices for hair care and longevity to keep Finn's coat cottony-soft and shining with good health. Current research is very clear that the best diet we can provide for our pets is a fresh, human grade diet. Farfel's recommends Chi Diet (chidog.com) due to our personal experience with our own dogs. It's one of the most important choices we make for our dogs great health and longevity. Finn is a young, healthy dog who will love a kind and respectful dog-crazy family with all his heart. He would also enjoy another gentle dog to play with and then to lie together in the sunshine enjoying a beautiful day. Finn will also do really well as on only dog. He's a quieter guy who gets overlooked because he never causes any problems and tends to stay in the background away from the chaos of the shelter. Farfel's Rescue would like to see Finn in a home where he'll get consistent mental stimulation, exercise and tons of loving hugs. A positive reinforcement / force free group training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence for a young guy whose self-esteem will fly high while he masters his skills. Farfel's feels so strongly about training for all dogs that we're unwilling to adopt to a family who doesn't choose to give Finn this opportunity. MEET SIERRA! Sierra is a 5-year-old, approx. 90-pound Bernese/Anatolian mix girl who came from a family in Montana who were unable to give her the care and attention she needs. She was kept outside too much, but her rescuers have been working with her, integrating her into their foster family with dog walks, belly rubs, brushing sessions and lots of love. Sierra is a working/herding/guard dog but is also a very cuddly teddy bear who loves people and has done well around children. She does have protective/guarding tendencies that seem to have been exacerbated by her situation at her former home. We think she'd do best in a house with a fenced yard, and without other dogs or pets. However, she has also made HUGE progress on her dog walks and will benefit from ongoing training. Sierra loves being brushed, hanging out with her people and getting lots of belly rubs. She is a very sweet girl and would make a great companion for the right person! Moose is a sweet, goofy 2.5-year-old dog with a big heart and lots of love to give. After a tough start in life, he’s proven to be incredibly resilient and is now ready for his forever home. He’s very food-motivated, making him highly trainable, and he loves staying active with runs and games of fetch. Moose is great with people, does well with older kids, and even gets along with cats.He’s made great progress on leash but can still be a bit reactive around other dogs, so continued training will help him keep improving. Moose may do best as the only dog or with a calm, submissive companion. He’s also a known counter surfer, so a home that can manage food boundaries is important.Moose is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, recently had a clean bill of health, and comes with a year of heartworm prevention. He’s ready to bring joy, loyalty, and plenty of laughs to his new home.
