Story
Panda is a 3-year-old male Shih Tzu mix and a charming tripod who’s ready for his forever home. He was rehomed twice and ultimately surrendered to Broken Tail Rescue after his second owner failed to provide proper care; now he’s recovering and looking for a loving, stable family. Medically, Panda recently underwent a sedated groom to remove severe matting, had X‑rays and bloodwork completed, and recovered from a right-rear leg amputation. Because of his amputation, Panda should be carried up and down full sets of interior stairs. Personality-wise, Panda is affectionate and gentle, preferring to be near people; he’s not a big barker but will cry if left alone. He walks well on leash, is housetrained with a schedule, and gets along with other small dogs. Panda’s ideal home would be with someone who works from home, an active retiree, or a multi-generational household — a calm, patient family ready to give him the consistency and closeness he loves. Because of Panda’s amputation, single-floor living is most desirable. Panda is up to date on immunizations and is on a 12-month heartworm prevention protocol. Panda is fostering in Central Massachusetts. Follow Broken Tail Rescue on Instagram! Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.
