Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Baby Girl and Jeter came to us in pretty difficult condition when they were surrendered to local animal control when their owner was being taken into hospice care. Their loving owner did her very best to take care of them and we know by their personalities that they were loved and cherished. Initially, we thought they were much older, but after grooming and proper dental care, we now believe they are about 8 or 9 years old. Baby Girl is 14 pounds and Jeter is only about 7 pounds - so they are apartment appropriate.  They have plenty of energy and are so affectionate !!  Baby Girl and Jeter are bonded and MUST go together.  Jeter is now neutered and just had a dental. Baby Girl is spayed and had a dental too, and both are current on shots. If you're interested in being their happily ever after, please complete an application at njshpetrescue.org Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 21, 2025, 11:56 am

Story
We have a transport where we will be personally taking our dogs to their new home leaving January 15th 2026 to the east coast from where we are located here in Southern California. Surrounding states will be added to our route as needed ☺️ We would love to add Belle to our trip for the right home! As always for our adopters peace of mind we never ask for anything up front! Her adoption fee, along with her adopting families share of travel costs will be due the day we arrive in person with Belle ultimately finalizing her adoption. Belle is a gentle, thoughtful little soul with a heart that simply needs the right person to feel safe enough to fully shine. Born on 7/4/24, she weighs 12.5 lbs fully grown, a petite Bichon–Poodle mix with a soft presence and an even softer heart. Belle came from a loving family who adored her deeply, but her world was kept fairly small. Because of that, she can be cautious by nature with people she doesn’t yet know. She isn’t fearful or shut down — she just takes a moment to observe, process, and decide when it feels right to open her heart. Thankfully, that moment doesn’t take long. With a little patience and kindness, Belle blossoms into a joyful, affectionate, sweet girl who loves deeply once she knows she’s safe. Earning her trust is time well spent — her love is sincere, loyal, and incredibly rewarding. She is spayed, microchipped, current on all vaccines, and had a wonderful exam with our veterinarian. Belle did show signs of mild allergies and was given a Cytopoint injection to help relieve those symptoms. She was in heat at the time of her spay, which required longer anesthesia and an in-heat spay increase, and she also received an antibiotic injection to support her recovery. She handled everything beautifully and has done very well moving forward. Belle is house trained and does great following a consistent routine. She goes outside when asked and has thrived on our structured schedule of every 3–4 hours, which we strongly recommend continuing in her next home. She is crate trained and currently sleeps peacefully in her crate at night, though she would likely transition easily to a bed beside her person — or even in bed — as she is happiest being close to those she loves. She is leash trained and truly enjoys her walks, especially trips to the park or playground. Belle is a total people-watcher and will happily sit beside you on a bench, quietly observing the world while you tell her all about it. She loves being present in life and taking it all in — she just needs someone kind and confident to lead the way and show her that the world isn’t as scary as it sometimes feels. Belle is wonderful with other dogs and loves to play. If you have a sweet canine companion for her to join, she would happily step into the role of sister. That said, being the center of attention as a solo pup would suit her just fine too — she wears the title of princess very naturally. She does well at the groomer, though she benefits from a patient, gentle groomer who understands that trust takes time. Grooming tools can feel a bit intimidating until she knows she’s safe, but once she’s all dolled up and back home, she prances, dances, and clearly knows she looks adorable. Belle loves snuggles, gives the sweetest kisses, and is especially motivated by treats — with a clear soft spot for strawberries and watermelon. She also travels beautifully and is great on road trips of any length. Belle is a true companion — one who will grow alongside her person, gaining confidence with encouragement, consistency, and love. She doesn’t need perfection, just someone willing to move at her pace and let her heart bloom. Her Adoption fee is on our website at the bottom of her adoption listing at https://www.breadoflifek9refuge.org/post/belle-1 Belle’s adoption fee covers her spay (including in-heat spay costs), vaccines, microchip and registration, veterinary care, allergy treatment, antibiotic injection, as well as the months of care, training, and grooming she has received while with us.

Story
Angel is a sweet, people-loving senior girl with a young spirit! Friendly, smart, quiet (Unless she see food she wants LOL). She enjoys walks, yard sniffing, toys, and being near her humans. Although she loves being around people... she is not a "cuddle bug" She prefers to follow you around or come up to you when she is looking for pets or attention. She gets along with other dogs but doesn’t interact much ... basically ignores them but is absolutely fine around them. She is a healthy senior and has been vet checked. She is spayed and UTD on vaccines and weights 17 lbs. Angel likely lived a pampered life and may beg or bark for table food; She responds well to consistent, gentle guidance. Overall, she listens, though she can be a bit stubborn. Quirks to note: • Toy/Food possessive: She gets anxious and may growl you approach her toys or food while she’s eating or chewing on a toy. She can also (in the beginning) growl or nip if you try to take something away from her or pick something up too quickly that is near her startling her. Best for the first month or so to go slow till she is confident that you mean her no harm. • She doesn’t like being picked up from the ground without warning: She growls as a warning if lifted in a way she dislikes, but is okay being helped on her terms (quick scoops, jumping into car or onto couch with assistance when she wants it). Angel may have a past reason for her dislike of being lifted, but with understanding and respect of her boundaries, she is a loving, happy companion with lots of love to give. She’s truly a wonderful girl ready to bond with her forever people if you give her the time! We are looking for a person or family of adults only that have dog experience and that can be a STRONG PACK LEADER for her. Someone that is not put off by her occasional growl and that wants to adopt her to save her and give her a furever home. Won’t you give this little senior girl a home to live out her golden years with comfort and companionship. If you are interested in adopting Angel, please fill out an application at this link: https://bichonrescuenj.com/bichon-frise-rescue-nnj-adoption-app.html If you have already filled out our application, please EMAIL me with the email you used in your app and I will look it up. Angel is currently in Northern New Jersey. Applicant's should live within 3 hours drive of there and be willing to drive to pick her up.

Story
WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care. Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.NAME: MistyBREED: Bichon FriseDOB: Dec 30, 2019 (6 years)Home Recommendation: Misty would do best in a calm, loving home where someone is home more often than not, as she does experience some separation anxiety. Because she sometimes has difficulty with stairs and occasional walking, her adopter should be comfortable picking her up when needed thankfully, at just 10 pounds, she is easy to carry. Misty would likely thrive in a home with other gentle dogs, as she truly seems to perk up and gain confidence around canine companions. A patient, nurturing home with lots of reassurance and companionship would be the perfect match for her.WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Misty spent her entire life as a breeding dog in a puppy mill. When her 'breeders' decided they no longer had a use for her, they planned to discard her. Thankfully, WISE was able to step in and rescue her giving her a second chance to experience the love and warmth of a real home. Now shes ready to start that new chapter!Personality: Misty is a shy little girl with the sweetest heart. While she may take some time to warm up, once she feels safe she is incredibly loving and devoted to her person. She is a very calm dog who prefers a quiet life she mostly enjoys sleeping and relaxing. Her favorite place to be is cuddled up in a cozy blanket or nestled close to the person she loves. She brings a peaceful, comforting presence and would be a wonderful companion for someone looking for a calm, affectionate lap dog.KIDS: Yes, kids 10+DOGS: YesCATS: YesTraining: Misty uses her crate only at night, and it works best when the crate is placed near your bed. With that setup, she is able to settle and typically sleeps through the night. She understands the idea of going to the bathroom outside but still needs continued consistency and routine. She walks at a slow, senior-like pace and can be a bit stiff, so she is not a dog who will require long walks. With patience and gentle guidance, she will continue to make steady progress.Visit WiseAnimalRescue.org to fill out an adoption application.Adoption areas include: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maine, Vermont, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.

Meet Motas 🐾 Motas does things his own way, but he’s got a soft heart for the right person 💙 A few things about him: • Motas is independent and a little aloof at first—he likes to size you up before giving his attention • He’s smart and quick to learn when motivated, but can be a bit stubborn and has a “spicy” personality 🌶️ • Best suited for a quiet, mellow home with older kids who respect his need for space • Low-shedding and will need occasional grooming to stay looking sharp ✂️ • Training on basics is a work in progress, and he’ll do best with someone patient who understands his unique vibe • Not a lap dog on day one, but with time and trust, he reveals his loyal, loving side ❤️ If you appreciate a dog with brains, personality, and a mellow attitude, Motas might be the perfect fit for you. 📍The Center for Animal Health and Welfare PA Kennel License #02941 1165 Island Park Rd, Easton, PA 18042

Story
Alabaster is a skittish but sweet 4 year old bichon boy who loves cuddling with doggie friends and is still learning about the world outside of a cage after being rescued from a puppy mill. He needs a calmer adult home with at least one other small doggie friend to help him feel safe We hate puppy mills, but we love our puppy mill survivors ❤️ Most of our dogs come from local animal control facilities and homes that can’t keep them, but saving puppy mill dogs has always been a big part of our rescue’s mission over the past 20+ years. Since long before it was cool and every rescue and fake scam rescue around started buying up and selling supposed reject tiny mill puppies and flipping them for high adoption fees to make a profit, we have been rescuing and rehabilitating the sad scared semi-feral medically needy retired moms and dads. Our major life goal is to get dogs out of bad situations and into better ones, and few things are worse than puppy mill life, exploited in a cage for years on end with minimal human contact or medical care, just being used as breeding machines. It sounds like some type of dystopian horror story, but puppy mills are very real and common, kept alive by the selfish desire of consumers to be able to get a puppy of any breed or mix they want immediately shipped to them without caring about the consequences for the parents left behind. Some puppy mill rescues might have been treated slightly better than others and come to us in better shape emotionally and medically. But the vast majority of them (and the most challenging yet rewarding to help) come to us semi-feral and scared out of their minds of human touch, clinging to any doggie friend they can find as their only source of joy and security. They all have some challenges to overcome as they learn how to live in homes for the first time. Leash-walks, housebreaking, playing with toys, and cuddling are all foreign and scary concepts, but with time, patience, doggy role models, and the right caring patient people they learn at their own speed. We currently have 7 little non-shedding puppy mill survivors available, all 3-5 years old and varying levels of shyness. All REQUIRE another dog in the household to help them feel safe and have a role model and to look up to and copy (good habits and bad). Email njwoof@cs.com to meet any of our little survivors in northern NJ. If a puppy mill survivor isn’t the right match for you, we have lots of locally rescued dogs who have lived in homes, so please reach out to find a match Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
