We do not have a shelter. CDCK has a thorough adoption process to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first-served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter for dogs six months and older. We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam before adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDCK. City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us. Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP,Lepto and Bordetella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis. Most cats and dogs will have a house-training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained.

Story
Let me introduce Ralphie, one of the coolest dogs in our rescue! His foster mother has medical issues, and she wants him to find his furever home ASAP! This awesome guy was abandoned in the woods, alone in the middle of nowhere, when he was still a puppy ‚Äď scared and left to die young. He is extremely sweet. Ralphie loves toys and playing fetch - playtime is high on his wish list. He is very friendly, never meets a stranger, and loves absolutely everyone he meets. He still has a puppy spirit and needs activity & exercise! He would be great for an active family that hikes or runs, as long as there are cuddles and belly rubs. His leash walking is progressing well. He gets along well with other dogs with proper introduced. He will be happiest as a loving family companion. We use the most animal-friendly transport on the road. Rescue Riders Pet Transport. We'll transport to a destination near you every weekend, alternating between the Northeast and the Great Lakes.

https://foha.org/pet/oscar/ Hello. I am Oscar. No, I do not have a hot dog named after me. No, I'm not a grouch from Sesame Street (although I do have my moments), and I'm not the messy Oscar from the Odd Couple. I am Oscar the hound. A redbone coonhound to be precise. Since I am a hound, my nose leads the way on long walks. I am great with other dogs. I especially love to relax outdoors in the sun and I am house trained. I also know basic commands and take treats well. I love car rides! While I am primarily good-natured, I can be protective of food, toys, and objects that I think are mine. I would do best in a home with no children and a strong experienced owner. A few other things about me. I do the "Oscar dance to make a pitch for some yummy treats. Also, I always, always have a smile on my face. I love low-key living and know a great home is out there for me. Come and visit to see my Oscar dance, and let's get to know each other! If you have the experience and are looking for a dog to hang out on the back porch and bath in the sun. I am the Oscar for you.

Story
Hi! My name's Anjea! While living on the streets of Louisiana, I unfortunately picked up some illnesses and was even shot with a BB gun. Lucky for me, I was rescued just in time to have my 6 pups! Thank goodness!! My foster family has already helped me feel better and ensured that my puppies got adopted by wonderful families. While I have a foster home of my own, I'd sure like to find my forever family! I'm learning all sorts of good behaviors and trying my best to go potty outside. Sometimes, I have accidents, but I'm getting better. I love playing tug-of-war, chasing tennis balls, and chewing on bones. Although I am pretty playful, I'm also always down for a good nap in bed, on the floor, or in my crate. I do have a tendency to be a little too curious, so sometimes I accidentally run into the electric fence or try to get food from the counters. There are lots of amazing new smells at my foster house, which have led to me rolling in the grass. My foster mom doesn't like the new smells as much as I do, so my adventures have resulted in some not so fun showers. I love and appreciate everything my foster parents, siblings, and doggy sisters have taught me so that I can be the best girl for you. If you're looking for a cuddle buddy who is super sweet and loves to play, I'm your girl!!

These pups are in Washington, District of Columbia too!

Story
Good with: Dogs, older kids Not good with: Younger kids Not tested with: Cats House trained: Yes Energy level: High Noise level: Quiet Hi, I'm Raven! My soulful eyes and gentle demeanor have won over the hearts of many, and I'm ready to find my forever family. My previous family couldn't say enough good things about me. They said I was the best dog for any family, and you know what? I believe them! I absolutely adore humans there's nothing I love more than snuggling up with my favorite people and basking in their affection. Unfortunately, my previous family's work hours changed, and they had to make the tough decision to return me to the shelter. But I'm staying positive! I know that there's a family out there just waiting to welcome me into their hearts and home. I'm a sweet and affectionate dog with a lot of energy. I absolutely adore people and other dogs, and I get along with everyone I meet. One of my favorite things about myself is how mellow and adaptable I am; I'm gentle and friendly, making me a great companion for both adults and kids. I'm proud to say that I have basic training and know commands like "sit," "come," and "leave it." I'm also housetrained and crate trained. On walks, I might pull on the leash a bit, but I love meeting strangers and other dogs. I'm generally quiet and rarely barkI've only barked once in the two weeks I've been here! I get along well with all dogs and play nicely at the dog park. While I'm great with kids, my tendency to jump when excited means I'd do better with older children until I learn to keep all four paws on the ground. I'm looking for a forever home where I can stay active and be surrounded by love. Could that be with you? My foster guardian says: She is very mellow and gets along with everyone and every dog she meets. Likes: Long walks, short walks, hikes, and trips to the dog park are some of my favorite activities. Dislikes: I do have a few dislikes; thunderstorms, fireworks, loud noises, and the vacuum can make me a bit nervous. My ideal home: I would thrive in an active family, and while a yard would be great, I've been doing just fine in a small apartment with plenty of exercise and play. I love kids (as long as they are older) and would thrive in a family with children. Name:  Henry    Best Guess for Breed:   Treeing Walker Coonhound mix   Best Guess for Age:  3 years as of June 2024        SEX:   Male   Approximate Weight: 58 lbs   Gets Along With:    Henry does well with other dogs! We haven't seen him with kids or cats but he can be tested   Currently Living at:  Shelter; needds a foster or forever home in the DC area after completing heartworm treatment! Special adoption considerations: Henry is a truly Lucky Dog. Although he has tested positive for heartworms, treatment has been scheduled! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment.  We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process.    See this happy handsome boy in this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spF6uMpiU98   Henry is Looking For:  Well, hi! I'd like to go to a home with someone whose able to take me on long, sniffy walks so I can inspect my neighborhood with my houndie nose. We live to sniff! I'd also like to be able to play with other pups sometimes. Most of all, though, I want to be safe and loved and know who my human is. What do you say? No time to come to the shelter? Meet me virtually during our open hours, note that wait time may vary for virtual meet and greets and we require same day pick up if you decide to adopt: https://waitwhile.com/locations/humanerescuealliance/r/welcome Howdy! I'm Pawla. What a great name, right? The shelter gave me that name as I was a stray and arrived with no ID! But I am happy to be here, but I'll be much happier in a home where I can snuggle in laps and get some great play time in. I'm a young lady who is ready for long sniffy walks, oodles of pettings and of course, great meals! So, are you looking for a pretty pup to be your new best friend? Then come on down to HRA and ask for Pawla- I'll be waiting for you!
