Story
We saw sweet Ginny on Facebook. She was a stray that ended up in a high kill shelter in Virginia. Shortly after she arrived she gave birth to 4 puppies. The shelter had no idea that she was pregnant because she was nothing but skin and bones. We knew we somehow had to get her here to Tennessee so we put our thinking caps on and a lot of wonderful volunteers drove her to our pick up spot in southern VA where our regular transporter picked her and the babies up on his way back to Nashville. We met them in Nashville at 1 AM and drove the family 100 miles back to the rescue. We knew Ginny was young, possibly still a pup herself and our vet confirmed that she was only 11 months at the time of the puppy's birth. Her pups have all been adopted and now it's Ginny's turn! Walker Hounds are very high energy dogs and can be a little stubborn so make sure you research the breed before you make the choice to adopt. We insist on a fenced yard for her so she can have room to free run and enjoy the rest of her life. These dogs are the number one dumped off breed as their owners will desert them if they don't hunt the way they want them too! We have several of them here at the rescue for that very reason. They are fun loving couch potatoes and will bring you many years of joy and happiness! PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE LOCATED IN TENNESSEE AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MEET OUR PETS PRIOR TO ADOPTION! ADOPTION FEE $650

Story
My name is Winnie and I am a loving 7 year old, 50 pound girl that is a beautiful Hound breed called a Tree Walker.   I was found as a stray in the middle of a rural highway and I am such a soft and gentle girl that loves to lay around and sleep and just be an easy couch potato friend. I am housebroken, love a good tummy rub, pretty nice to all other dogs that I meet and I would be a great companion to a senior, retired person or couple who are looking for an easy dog to love.  I am healthy and spayed and microchipped and I am told that I am pretty, too.  Would you like to have a sweet companion for the next 7-8 years.  I will be happy to make your life so much more special if you invite me home.  Critter Cavalry Rescue is ready to help you adopt me if you write to them at ccrnewengland@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.April 23, 2024, 4:30 pm

Story
Sweet Lynda Layne was found in a cornfield eating rotten moldy corn from the ground. She was nothing more than a skeleton with skin. She weighed 31 pounds, now she weighs 50 pounds! We have before pics upon request. She was depressed, starving and defeated, dumped by her owner, as is very common in the south. When a hound dog doesn't hunt the way their owner wants them to, they take them for "the ride". Lynda was one of the lucky ones, she was found by a wonderful lady who took her home and then posted her on Facebook. Of course the owner never came so we took her into the rescue. The first night she was here, she never left my side. She even went potty on the pee pads! She has never had an accident in the house and sleeps by my side every night. You won't find a sweeter more loving dog than Lynda! She is young and healthy. Crate trained, microchipped, fully vaccinated and heart worm negative. She desperately needs a loving home. Could that be you? PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE LOCATED IN TENNESSEE AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MEET OUR PETS PRIOR TO ADOPTION! ADOPTION FEE: $500

Story
Our sweet Abby is just a joy to be around. She came from a high kill shelter in South Carolina. We actually saw her on Facebook when they were begging for someone to get her out of there. She was 24 hours away from being euthanized. There are so very many stray hound dogs and the shelters run out of room so they only stay for so long before they are put to sleep. It's very sad. Abby is the sweetest, most loving girl that you will ever meet. She just loves everybody! She is a full blooded Walker hound, approximately 2 years young. She came with heart worms but we treated her and now she is heart worm free. She is also crate trained, fully vaccinated, microchipped and ready for her forever home! could that be you? Female, 2 years, 44 lbs Samantha is new to the rescue. We will add more information as we get to know the dog better. If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. If the animal has "HAS APPLICATION" listed, they are still available to receive additional applications but also may be in the process of being adopted soon. Apply for a DOG: http://www.citydogsrescuedc.org/adoptable-dogs.html Interested in saving more lives? Foster a dog today! Learn more, see our list of dogs needing foster, and apply, https://www.citydogsrescuedc.org/foster-a-city-dog.html City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is a foster-based rescue in Washington, DC. We do not have a shelter. CDCK has a thorough adoption process to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first-served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter for dogs six months and older. We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam before adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDCK. City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us. Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP,Lepto and Bordetella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis. Most cats and dogs will have a house-training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained.

Story
Show Yourself is a sweet and spunky pup with the prettiest blue eye! She loves going on walks, meeting other puppies and people, and cuddling up when she's tired. She gets along incredibly well with our 80lb dog and loves taking a long nap after one of their many play sessions. On top of all that, she's a quick learner and arleady knows sit, down and touch commands. She is 90% of the way there with potty training, and is great at letting us know when she needs to go out. She also sleeps completely through the night. She has become much more used to her crate and will sometimes even just decide to nap in it!  She would do great in a house that has another dog for her to play with. We also recommend a household where someone is home for a good portion of the day as she loves to be with others. She will be an amazing addition to any family!  Visit https://www.wtarescue.com/adoption-process-2 to learn about our adoption process! Mandatory in person transfer date: May 4th at the Petsmart in Tysons Corner between 11:00 AM-12:00 PM. All adopters must attend in order to finalize the adoption. ##1955405##

Sandwiches is the perfect balance of cuddly and playful. You'll see his big endearing ears flopping in the wind as he energetically runs back and forth for his beloved crinkly toys during playtime.  When he tires out, he's always sure to find his way into your lap for naptime. While he loves a warm lap and cuddles, he also is learning to settle into his crate for his naptime.   Sandwiches has also made great progress with his outdoor potty training, running to the door when he needs to go and once he's done with his business let's you know when he's ready to come back inside. He hasn't had any accidents in the last few days!!!  While he's quickly learning puppy manners and commands. Helping him learn the do's and don'ts are his 2 resident dog friends and cat. Story
Meet Samantha, a spirited explorer with boundless energy!   This clever and amusing puppy is always eager to participate in whatever you're up to. She wants what you want.   She's a running enthusiast and a limbo champion, effortlessly squeezing under anything she encounters (we foresee agility training in her future!).   Samantha is almost fully house-trained and will let you know when she needs to go out — 90% of the time.   She's incredibly trainable; she mastered "sit" in just a day and is eagerly learning more commands with the help of tasty treats. When she's not on an adventure, Samantha is a cuddle bug who loves being close to her humans.    In addition to having a lot of Treeing Walker Coonhound in her, we suspect she also has a touch of Beagle in her, evidenced by her adorable Snoopy-like groans while sleeping.   For her puppy months, Samantha would thrive in a home where someone is around most of the time. She adores the company of other dogs and would particularly enjoy living with another canine friend or two.   While Samantha loves everyone she meets, she's still learning about gentleness with her play bites—those tiny puppy teeth are part of the journey! Visit https://www.wtarescue.com/adoption-process-2 to learn about our adoption process! Mandatory in person transfer date: May 4th at the Petsmart in Tysons Corner between 11:00 AM-12:00 PM. Story
Meet Betty: 4yr old, female, Coonhound mix, 44 pounds. If interested in adopting Betty, please complete our nonbinding application: click here to send a non-binding application  Hedgesville Hounds took in Betty in December 2023.  While clearly very shy, her evaluators perceived a dog who wanted to trust humans and had a sweetness about her that was very promising.  Since coming into care, Betty’s health has improved by leaps and bounds.  Weighing about 27 pounds when she came to us, she now weighs a long, lean, and leggy 44 pounds.  Her once dull and rough coat is softer and shines in the sunlight.  Betty came to Hedgesville Hounds burdened with heartworms.  She did very well during her heartworm treatment and after 3 months of treatment, is now clear of any heartworm disease. Betty is a sweet and gentle dog.  She is very good about handling and is excellent at toenail clipping and ear cleaning.  Because of the heartworm disease, Betty spent months on crate rest.  Since being released from her physical restrictions, Betty has enjoyed her freedom and progressed to daily runs around the yard with other dogs and by herself, leaping off the deck and rolling around in the grass, chasing robins on the ground and buzzards in the air, even adding silly leaps and twists just for the sheer fun of it.  Betty’s foster Mom thinks she is mixed with some kind of site hound, like Whippet or Greyhound.  Betty is streamlined in shape, has long and delicate legs, a sleek head, and doesn’t like to SIT.  Her favorite positions are standing and fully reclining.  Jumping up on items does not come naturally to her, hence her rare use of the couch and her current inability to jump into the back of the car.  She doesn’t mind being lifted into the car and climbs right into the car crate.  She is an excellent and quiet car passenger. Betty is potty trained, and she can be trusted loose in the house as long as she gets outside every 3-4 hours during the day.  She is fine all night long, even uncrated.  Betty is crate-trained as well. She may whine a bit at first, but then she settles down well. Betty’s leash walking skills have steadily improved while in foster care.  When out on walks, Betty still tends to pull on the leash.  Her foster mom has been using a Gentle Leader head halter, which works better for her than a no-pull harness. Betty will need continued positive training and practice to master this skillfully. It seems like Betty is going through a second puppyhood as she has been exploring her world by mouth.   Nothing has been damaged beyond repair, but her new family will want to keep items out of her reach and continue to teach her what is appropriate to chew on.  Betty occasionally chews her Nylabones or soft chew toys.  She also really enjoys her Collagen Retriever Rolls (rawhide replacements). Betty would likely be best suited for someone who is home all or most of the day. We do not have any knowledge of her experience with children, therefore we recommend a home with children over age 10. A securely fenced yard with a 4ft or higher fence is a necessity.  Betty gets along well with other dogs and also with cats.  Betty has come a long way since she joined Hedgesville Hounds.  She has proven that our initial assessment of her sweetness was spot on.  She probably won’t win any obedience titles; however, if you’re looking for a gentle dog to simply love you unconditionally, well, Betty has the rule book memorized! click here to send a non-binding application

Clooney is an 8 year old Beagle, Hound mix looking for a new home.  He is used to being the only dog in the house and has not been properly socialized, therefore does not do well sharing with other dogs.  Clooney needs training with positive reinforcement.  He likes his people and makes a great companion.  He is a Hound that follows his nose so he will need leash walks or a fenced area to roam in.  If you can help with fostering this handsome guy until we can find him a great new home, please let us know.  ccrnewengland@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.April 23, 2024, 4:30 pm

Story
Silly Lil Stella is a young, perfect sized, medium girl that has the best smile and the most fun personality.  This white nugget is believed to be a Beagle/Greyhound mix who is only 18 months old and 34 pounds.  Stella is super cuddly and loving and looks much smaller than her weight suggests.  She is light and wispy and easy to have on your lap and does so well with other companion dogs and cats in the home.  She is housebroken and crate trained and was found as a stray that needed a helping hand.  She would be a great companion for a single person or young couple or even empty nesters.  She will need physical exercise outlets daily and would thrive learning new commands and dog manners.  If you are interested in this girl, please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.April 23, 2024, 4:30 pm
