Buck was almost another forgotten shelter dog. I first saw his picture at a very high-kill shelter that euthanizes dozens of dogs regularly. He was severely underweight, scared, and looked like he had nearly starved to death. His surrender notes said his owners dumped him after he killed a chicken. Considering the condition he was in, it is obvious that he acted out of desperation and hunger. I kept telling myself I could not take in another brown Heinz 57 dog. But I could not stop thinking about him. Today, Buck is healthy, safe, and finally able to just be a dog again. Buck is about 2 years old and around 40 pounds with a people-focused, affectionate personality. He absolutely loves attention and wants to be near his person whenever possible. Despite everything he went through, he has remained incredibly social and loving with humans. He also does very well with other dogs overall. He can occasionally act a little dominant with other males, but nothing concerning or over the top. He settles well into group dynamics and enjoys being around other dogs. Buck has a very balanced energy level. He enjoys hanging out, exploring, getting attention, and simply being included in daily life. Now that he no longer has to worry about survival, his personality continues to open up more and more. Dogs like Buck are everywhere in overcrowded shelters right now. Good dogs. Normal dogs. Dogs that simply ran out of time, resources, or human compassion. Buck was lucky enough to make it out. He has not met a cat, so his relationship with cats is unknown at this time. Our boy Ringo is the star of the show with every spotlight shining directly on him. He is an amazing little bundle of puppy energy that captivates and audience. He is a young 9-month-old black mouth cur mix weighing around 53 pounds. That currently puts him in the medium-size category, but he is sure to grow and with that anticipation, he is estimated to be a large-size dog of anywhere over 60 pounds when he is fully grown. Ringo has lots of puppy energy to play with his friends or just hang out with the crowd. He does well in the company of other dogs and also children. His position on cats is unknown at this time since he has not had the opportunity to meet a cat since coming into rescue. What is known is that Ringo is a ball of fun and very entertaining. He is a fun combination of puppy antics, lively expression and quiet snuggles. Those attributes are a winning combination. He is working to make life easier for himself and his family, so he is putting in the hard work of learning his crate and leash training. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.6/23 Still available! 2/22 This handsome boy is Blaze. He was rescued in February 2025 from a litter of 10 born under an abandoned house/shed. Animal Control picked up the sire and mother dog and 9 of the pups. They were all euthanized the same day. Not because they did anything wrong, but because the shelter was full. Blaze was the only one rescued. He has been fostered in a home since his rescue. He has socialized with the teenage boys in the neighborhood and interacted with them playing ball as a puppy. He has been taught to sit on command and fetch his ball. He resides in a kennel on the patio and has a fenced backyard for exercise. He gets along well with the small Yorkshire terrier in the adjacent fenced yard. Blaze has had minimal leash training due to his strength. He is really just too strong for his foster to have good control of him. He is familiar with a harness and leash, he just needs some training to not pull and to be more gentle. Blaze loves to play ball and chase squirrels and birds out of the yard. This young, sweet boy desperately wants affection and training. He is smart and eager to learn, he just hasnt been given many opportunities so far. He responds exceptionally well to any affection offered to him. He would crawl in your lap and snuggle you for hours if allowed to. He is moderately energetic and craves mental stimulation. He would do best with an active family who will give him the physical and mental stimulation he needs. We believe he would love kids, but he would probably be best with older, sturdy kids, only because he doesn't know his size and strength and could easily knock over a little one. Blaze is 1 year old and weighs 62 lbs. He may still grow a little more, but probably won't exceed 75 lbs once mature. He really just needs a chance. In the right hands, Blaze will be an incredible dog. We do not know his breed for sure. He is likely a mix of many breeds. He is neutered, UTD on age appropriate vaccines, and on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. Blaze is located in Arkansas. He can be adopted locally, but transport is available to the New England area as well. Adopter must be able to pick up or arrange for someone to pick up for them in PA, NY, or CT on Saturdays.
