Story
Meet Honey — The Soul Dog Who’s Been Waiting for Her PersonHoney is a stunning Black Mouth Cur with a heart as big as her name. She’s intelligent, athletic, deeply intuitive, and in that in-between stage of life where she just needs someone willing to guide her into the incredible dog she’s meant to be.Her foster family spent about two months earning her trust — and once she realized she was safe, she blossomed. Honey became calm, affectionate, respectful, and eager to be part of everything they do. She bonds deeply, but she doesn’t give her heart away lightly. She’s smart enough to know when someone is truly committed.PersonalityHoney is:Loyal, sensitive, and highly attuned to peopleEnergetic and playful, but settles beautifully once fulfilledA thinker — she learns fast, but she’ll test boundaries if direction isn’t clearA total lovebug once she trusts youTrainingHoney is:Crate trainedHouse trainedLeash trainedWorking on polite greetings (she gets excited and jumps)She’s incredibly smart and responds best to consistency and confident leadership.Ideal HomeNo children under 15 (she matches energy and can be overwhelmed)No catsDog selective — she does best with dogs whose energy complements hersSomeone active who can give her daily exercise or mental enrichmentSomeone patient, steady, and willing to earn her trustWhat She Needs to ThriveHoney shines when she’s fulfilled. A 30-minute walk, a structured activity, or mental challenges keep her balanced and happy. When bored, she may make less-than-ideal choices (jumping, barking, chewing), but when her needs are met, she’s the best family dog you could ask for.Honey doesn’t need perfect — she needs someone willing. Someone who sees past this moment of teenager stage and into the incredible companion she’s becoming. If that’s you, she’s been waiting!!!! Adoption fee: $400All dogs/puppies have been fully vetted including spay/neuter, micro-chipping, worming, heartworm testing and preventative treatment, flea/tick preventative, and all required age appropriate vaccinations. Story
Scared to death….All I had was my sister and people were probably either non-existent in my life prior to Save-A-Pet or even possibly not very nice. Everything was new. What’s a leash? What about toys? Why do they make funny noises? Why do people talk to us in “puppy” talk? The Canine Care staff was persistent and every day they made sure to help me get adjusted and show me what fun could be. I discovered plush toys, I even started “booping” a squeaky toy and then getting a treat. They took me in a little play yard and I got to run around, discovering a new feeling: happiness. I am discovering the world, one puppy step at the time. I also enjoy romping around with other doggies. Who knew life could be so different. I still have a lot to learn and experience and while I’m still cautious with new people, I am excited for my next adventure with a kind, compassionate and loving family.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. **If you are interested in being considered for this dog, please be sure to complete an application directly on our website - not through a 3rd party service.**   Meet Peaches!  Peaches is an approximately 2 years old, 55lb Black mouth cur mix. (We do not DNA test).  This poor girl found herself in a shelter down south when her owner went to jail.  Lucky for her some kind people saw her and brought her into rescue and she found her way up north to HWM.  Peaches is crate trained and house broken.  Her foster mom says she walks great on her harness and might even make a great jogging buddy for someone.  While Peaches doesn’t necessarily need a fenced in yard, she is high energy, so she will need lots of exercise, and walks.  Her potential adopters must be very committed to this.    Peaches is described by her foster momma as eager to please, food motivated and very affectionate.  This sweet girl has done well with other dogs in the foster home, as well as adults, but has not yet been exposed to cats or small humans.    Peaches is heartworm positive, but don't let that deter you.   She will be receiving treatment that is covered by the rescue.  Potential adopters will speak to a member of our medical team prior to any meet and greet, so they can fully understand the treatment and what it entails.     Peaches’ Adoption fee is  $350.00.  This includes age appropriate vaccines, completed wellness exam, and microchip.  *HWMAR presents the information in these bios based on our foster observations and any information presented to us regarding prior living conditions, breed specifications. While we aim to be as accurate as possible, each animal is individual and their behaviors and personalities can change in different surroundings.  HWMAR holds no guarantees to personality, behavior or breed* Please review our adoption process & complete an application on our website - www.hoofwoofmeow.org/adoption   We adopt within 150 mile radius of Elgin, IL **We are a 100% volunteer rescue.  All of our dogs are in Foster Homes**Submission of an application does not guarantee adoption of any specific animal as they may have applications pending or might not be the right match.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 14, 2026, 3:05 pm

Story
Ramona's journey has not been an easy one. She was born as part of a litter of street dogs in Aruba, where kind people occasionally fed them, but life on the streets was still dangerous. Ramona was struck by a car twice, suffering a crushed femur that required corrective surgery. Thanks to excellent veterinary care and her incredible resilience, she made a full recovery and has never let her difficult start slow her down. Since coming to the U.S., Ramona has blossomed into a happy, playful, affectionate dog. At Doggy Has Soul Sanctuary, she transformed from a frightened puppy into a confident, joyful girl who loves running and playing with her dog friends. Say her name and she'll come running with a big smile, hoping for a treat and some attention. Ramona is approximately 2 years old and weighs about 35 pounds. She is potty trained, crate trained, and does best with canine companionship. She absolutely loves daycare and has earned a reputation as the social butterfly and party clown of the group. . Everything points to Ramona being a Black Mouth Cur mix, although no DNA testing has been done. Ramona is looking for a loving, committed forever home where she can continue to thrive. Ideally, she would love to have at least one other dog in the home to help her feel confident and keep her company. We ask that adopters live within 40 miles of Elgin. If you're looking for a resilient, loving companion with a heart as big as her smile, Ramona may be the perfect addition to your family. 🐾💕

Story
Meet Zippy! 🐾 Zippy is a 5-year-old, 51-pound Black Mouth Cur mix with a heart as big as his smile. This lovable boy is always excited to meet new people and never misses an opportunity to make a new friend. His gentle, affectionate personality has made him a favorite among our staff, and it's easy to see why! Zippy has quite the story. Before coming to Anderson Humane, he spent four years at another shelter, hoping each day that someone would choose him. In fact, Zippy has spent his entire life waiting for a family to call his own. Now he's here, hoping that his forever home is finally just around the corner. Despite everything, Zippy hasn't lost his loving spirit. He's incredibly sweet, adores being close to his people, and is happiest when he's snuggled up soaking in all the affection he can get. His resilient heart and endless optimism make him truly special, and everyone who meets him falls a little bit in love. After spending his whole life in a shelter, Zippy deserves to experience all the simple joys of having a home—a cozy bed, daily walks, belly rubs, and a family who will love him unconditionally. He's waited far too long for that chance. Could you be the one to show Zippy what it's like to finally be home? He'll reward you with endless love, loyal companionship, and plenty of cuddles for years to come. When I arrived at Anderson Animal Shelter from their partner shelter in Oklahoma, I tested positive for Heartworm. The staff believes that the best place for Heartworm positive dogs like me to be while going through treatments and recovering is with a loving and forever family like yours. If you choose to adopt me, the clinic staff will be with you every step of the way, answering questions and offering support. The process from detection to the final treatment is generally three months and involves some simple at-home steps to keep me safe while I recover. The last step in the process is a follow-up test six months after my treatment begins. The Heartworm treatment process is highly successful and the staff anticipates that I will fully recover! Yeah! And you should know that Heartworm can only be transmitted from animal to animal by mosquitoes. Stop in and meet Zippy in person during our adoption hours. For more information, email info@ahconnects.org or call us at 847-697-2880 x: 0, and the staff will be happy to help you. All of our dogs and puppies go home spayed or neutered, microchipped, and heartworm tested (for dogs 7 months and older). They are also up to date on core vaccines, as well as heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Each adoption includes a 3.5-pound bag of dog or puppy food and a free vet exam at one of our participating veterinary partners.

Story
If you’re looking for sweet instead of rowdy, Frances is your girl. She’s the total opposite of wild and chaotic — calm, loving, and full of gentle affection. OK, she has her fun and cray cray times when she sees you!! :) Frances has truly never met a stranger and believes everyone she meets is (or should be!) her new best friend. Her favorite way to say hello? Jumping up for the sweetest hugs. 💗 She walks beautifully on a leash and is crate trained, making her an easy and well-mannered companion. Frances has been through a lot over the past six months, and she’s finally ready to start the next chapter of her life with a family of her own. Frances would love a yard to explore and kids or a dog friend to play with, but she’s just as happy being the only dog and soaking up all the love and attention for herself. She’s wonderfully flexible like that — she just wants to belong. Frances is ready to bring her sweet heart, happy hugs, and loyal companionship into a forever home. Could that be yours? Local adoption fee is $300 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $550 (includes transport to your area)
