Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Capitan is the sweetest little boy.  Well not super little, he is probably around 25-30 pounds now and will most likely get a little bigger.  We are unsure of his breed, he looks like he has border collie in him but probably also some terrier, maybe lab, his coloring suggests dalmatian.  He is amazing with other dogs and kids, loves to snuggle.  We are not sure how he would be with cats in his home but at our events he doesn't even seem to notice them so he probably won't care.  He is working on potty training but is crate trained and does pretty well on a leash.  He loves the water and mud so heads up.  One thing you need to know...he is deaf, and mostly blind, he lost one eye (congenital issue and it was removed), the other eye is not great either.  We think he can see shadows because he navigates his surroundings just fine, even when he is in a new place.  He would benefit from someone who has experience with a deaf and blind dog as training is difficult since he can't hear.  But he is so easy going he would be fine as long as his people do their research and learn with him.  Otherwise he is healthy, he is fixed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $400 To adopt Capitan, fill out an application at www.kakf.org/formsVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 23, 2025, 10:48 am

Story
Buffy has been in our family since she was just a few months old. She is now 8! We rescued her as a pup. She is a sweet and loving puppy who loves her sister Molly, and her little humans. Since having kids in our family, our lifestyle has not matched her needs. Buffy is a dog who loves attention, playing and being active. With work and family Buffy has a harder time with our current lifestyle. She also has seasonal allergies that get bad in the summer and needs additional care during the summer months to treat those. Buffy has been great with kids, with other dogs and with families. She can take a minute to warm up but with attention she will become your friend which.

Story
Hi there! I’m Marigold - your future festive sidekick and resident border collie mix, jingling in at about 50 pounds of fluffy cheer. I’m around 1–2 years old, and I just arrived up from Kentucky, where a kind family cared for me since January 2025. But oh boy, am I excited to be here! It’s my very first time having a real indoor bed, and let me tell you… it’s WAY cozier than curling up on a chilly porch during those frosty winter nights.   I’m sharing my foster home with three teeny beagle pups. They’re cute as candy canes, but they bounce around like stovetop popcorn kernels. Good thing I’m a gentle, patient big sis. When the puppy blizzard starts swirling too wild, I politely use my “indoor voice” to remind them to simmer down like cocoa on low heat.   Don’t get me wrong, I’m responsible, but I’m also full of sparkle! I adore zooming around the yard playing chase and wrestling, and I walk beautifully on a leash. Exploring outside is one of my favorite things, and I’d make a fantastic hiking partner for someone who loves adventure as much as I do. A fenced in yard is going to be the best thing for me in my my forever home!   I’ve never tried agility, but with my quick paws, graceful moves, and wicked smarts, I bet I’d be a natural. Just picture me prancing through jumps and tunnels like one of Santa’s reindeer-in-training!   I’m the kind of companion who brings a peaceful warmth wherever I go. I’m gentle, quiet, and always paying attention, keeping our home safe without ever making a fuss - the kind of dog Santa would trust to guard the workshop. I won’t bark your ears off, I save my voice for moments that matter. I’m fully crate trained, potty trained, and ready to slip right into a nice family routine. I dream of spending December nights tucked against you on the couch, sharing a blanket, a movie, and the feeling of finally being home for the holidays.   If you think we’re meant to jingle all the way together, submit an application and come meet me. I already asked Santa for one thing this year: a forever family to call my own. Maybe it’s you and my Christmas wish comes true!   The adoption fee of $400 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed! *please note that we are a foster home based rescue and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of the Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Thank you for your understanding.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 2, 2025, 10:14 am

Story
Minnie is a 5-year-old Border Collie mix weighing about 40 pounds. She’s incredibly sweet at heart but also cautious, so she needs a patient, experienced adopter who will give her the time and guidance she needs to continue building trust. She’s been making regular outings to public places and has done well meeting new people. Minnie thrives when she can be close to her person—whether she’s cuddled up in bed or snuggled on the couch. This closeness helps her feel secure and strengthens her bond more quickly. Until she’s comfortable in her new home, she does best when kept on leash with her person as she learns the routine. She enjoys going for walks or even short jogs. Her ideal home will provide confident, gentle leadership. It’s important that a male figure in the household builds a strong bond with her. Minnie will need to be your one and only canine pal in the home. She does well with cats and could live with respectful, dog-savvy children over age 8 who understand her boundaries. Minnie is house-trained, walks nicely on leash, and hasn’t shown any destructive behavior. Like many Border Collies, she sometimes shows her herding instincts by trying to “correct” fast movements. She’s learning that the world isn’t so scary, but she’ll thrive with an adopter who can offer steady reassurance and structure. Minnie has so much love to give—she just needs the right person to help her fully blossom into the happy, loyal, and snuggly companion she’s meant to be. Her minimum adoption fee is $200 plus a $15 rabies registration fee (for McLean County residents, if 4 months or older). She has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
