Meet Pebbles, our sweet red border collie looking for her forever home! Pebbles came to us as a scared girl who wanted to do nothing but hide, having faced unimaginable challenges in her early life. Though she may initially seem reserved, she is slowly blossoming into a loving companion. With gentle encouragement and patience, Pebbles is starting to show her playful side, enjoying quiet walks and the warmth of human affection. She weighs in at 45 pounds and is a little over a year and a half old. Pebbles is fully potty trained and does great on a leash. She loves being around the other dogs and tries to make friends. Each day is a step towards building her confidence, and her journey of transformation is just beginning. She deserves a patient and understanding family who can help her continue on this journey of confidence and love. History | Pebbles comes from a border collie hoarding situation in Colorado. National Mill Dog Rescue (NMDR) was contacted by a family member because they had “some” dogs that needed rescued. When NMDR arrived they found 92 border collies all under the age of three. They were fed-ish by one person, mostly left to survive on their own, and had been doing so for years. They developed a pack mentality which, unfortunately, led to arguments ending in a loss of life for at least one dog. They would kill any and all small animals within the area. NMDR was able to safely evacuate 40 with hopes of going back to get the rest. All dogs were shut down and scared, but have begun to show friendliness after decompressing and time to learn to trust humans. Pebbles had one 4-week old puppy when NMDR showed up to the scene. This puppy was on the brink of death being eaten alive by fleas and ticks. NMDR was able to grab the puppy before the pack got to it. Story

Spider is a gentle soul wrapped in black and white fur, estimated to be 11 months old. This sweet boy is blossoming more every day, slowly learning that human hands can bring love, not harm. Spider has done well with his crate training, potty training, and walking on a leash. He is still learning what he can and cannot chew on. (silly puppies) Currently weighing around 51 lbs, Spider is still gaining much-needed weight and is expected to grow into a large, stunning dog. We believe him to be a Border Collie, Great Pyrenees mix, but we don’t know for sure. With his soft expression and calm presence, he’s well on his way to becoming a loyal, affectionate companion. Spider was diagnosed with Ehrlichia in October, which is a blood borne disease transmitted through tick bites. Ehrlichia attacks the blood cells and if left untreated can cause neurological issues, hip and joint weakness and sickness. Luckily we caught Spider’s early so he has a high chance of recovering fully. Though a bit reserved at first, Spider has a warm, kind heart. Once he feels safe, he leans into attention and melts when shown gentle affection. He has a silly soul, always smiling and jumping happily. He is still learning where his legs are and frequently misjudges his body size. :) He is kind and loves to play with other dogs of all sizes. He has been great around cats, usually acting as though they aren’t there. He is great around larger livestock, like horses, as well. He has the potential to make a great livestock guard dog with a little maturity and training. He is well behaved and curious on his outings to stores and the vet. As he continues to gain confidence and strength, his personality shines even brighter.

This guy has had a tough start—spending way too much time cooped up in a kennel, which left him with some elbow sores (all healing up nicely now!) and a case of serious noise anxiety. In a town environment, every car horn or distant bark sends him into jumpy mode, like he's auditioning for a surprise party he didn't sign up for. But here's the magic: Take him out on quiet trails or just beyond the city limits, and he's your dream hiking partner! His foster family has been strolling those peaceful paths during camping trips, and he struts along like a pro—ears perked, tail wagging, totally in his element. Weekends away? Golden. Busy days with traffic and crowds? A work in progress, but oh, the potential! Leash manners are another area his family is working on—he starts off like a champ, walking politely by your side, but a sudden noise can make him bolt for the safety of the car (which, fun fact: He used to dread car rides so much he needed a little chill pill, but now? He's begging for joyrides! His foster dad Dave's truck is his safe haven on wheels. 🚗💨) He's been a total gentleman with other dogs—super passive and easygoing, letting the bossy ones (looking at you, resident Border Collie) take the lead while he chills and finds his own fun. Men? Instant fan club—his foster dad is his hero. Cats and kids? Promising but needs slow, supervised intros. Our feisty feline is still giving him the side-eye (we think it's excitement, not chase mode), and he's already won over a visiting grandson. This week, we'll be testing the waters with a toddler in the mix—fingers crossed for more tail wags! Bottom line? This boy has zero formal training under his belt yet, but with patience, positive vibes, and lots of those quiet trail walks, he's going to blossom into the most loyal, affectionate companion. His foster family is totally smitten. "I've fallen in love with him," they confessed. "He just needs time to trust the world again." And trust us—he's worth every gentle step.
