I adopted Rocky in 2023 he was one year old at the time. He and his brother had been at the shelter since they were 6 weeks old. He is half Collie and half Pyrenees. His personality is all Pyrenees. He doesn't like children at all. He has some anxiety issues and was on doggy Xanax at the shelter. They said the anxiety was caused by the shelter. My son and I wanted a pet and he is very cuddly and sweet but he would prefer to spend most of his time outside. He lives in an apartment with me now and seems sad most of the time. He is without a doubt the BEST watch dog on earth. He'll let you know if someone is coming. He would never let someone rob you. Even though he's a working dog by breed, he's never actually worked but I'm sure he'd love too. He does not do any tricks or follow any commands. If you ever met a Pyr you know what I'm saying. He's not food motivated at all. He's pretty indifferent to dog treats. He likes people food if you offer it but he doesn't beg

JB is a sensitive, intelligent dog who is slowly learning to trust the world again. He recently made the long trip back from Iowa and handled it without any issues. Since arriving, he has begun settling into a predictable routine and has made strong bonds with the resident dogs—especially the Malinois and a female German Shepherd he absolutely adores. JB is skittish by nature and will need a patient adopter who can give him the space and time he needs. He is wary of new people and uncomfortable with handling. While he wags his tail and shows clear affection toward his trusted person, he does not enjoy being touched and often stiffens when petted. He will lick your hand when you’re not looking, but he’s not yet comfortable taking treats from hands. With the right person, he may continue to grow, but he will need an adopter who respects his boundaries. JB is not recommended for homes with men, as he is generally fearful of them. A female-only home is ideal. He should also not live with cats or young children. Teenagers may be okay as long as they understand his space and needs. On the bright side, JB does beautifully with other dogs and may benefit from living with a confident canine companion. He enjoys herding-type activities, loves to run, and frequently plays with the dogs in his foster home. Outdoors, he no longer chases the horses and respects their space. He does fairly well on walks and tends to circle his person, keeping close. While he hasn’t been off-leash, he has a solid recall and doesn’t try to run off when outside. JB is housebroken, kennel trained, and goes into both his indoor and outdoor kennels easily. He knows a few basic commands like “come,” “sit,” and “kennel.” A patient training approach—or even a class—could help him build confidence, but he will need a trainer familiar with fearful dogs. JB’s ideal home is quiet, structured, and led by a patient woman who understands nervous, shut-down, or fearful dogs. A fenced yard, another friendly dog, and a calm environment would help him continue to progress. Inside the home he tends to pace, but once things are still, he settles. Sudden movements send him retreating to his kennel, though he returns once the environment is calm again. JB is a project dog—but a rewarding one for the right person. With time, consistency, and compassion, he will continue to blossom at his own pace. He’s looking for someone who sees beyond his fears and is ready to offer him the gentle, steady love he’s learning to trust. Meet Trail! Trail is a handsome Border Collie mix with a bright future ahead of him—he just needs someone to give him a chance. Trail has been waiting at the Chillicothe Animal Shelter for a family to call his own. During his stay, he was selected to participate in Missouri's Puppies for Parolees program, where shelter dogs receive obedience training, socialization, and valuable life skills while working with inmate trainers. Because of the program, Trail has a great training foundation and is ready to continue learning with his future family. Trail also does well with other dogs, making him a great candidate for a home with a canine companion or for someone looking to add another dog to the family. After waiting patiently for someone to notice him, Trail is ready to leave shelter life behind and discover what it feels like to have a family of his own. Could that family be yours? Basics: He is a neutered male guessed to be around 1.5 yrs old and weighs close to 40lbs. Have you seen my ears?). Bunny is a 35 lb., 13- month-old border collie with all of the characteristics you would expect in a true border collie. She has a very high energy level and is quite intelligent. Bunny would probably make a great sport dog. She is extremely fast and has legs that let her leap high into the air. She has recently discovered frisbee play and is learning all the ins and outs of keeping up with the flying disc. Bunny loves to explore the world and go on long sniffer walks. These long, unstructured walks allow her lots of mental stimulation, a must if you want to have a calm home. Bunny enjoys playing ball for a few minutes, but would rather race around the yard as the other dogs fetch the ball. Fast would be an understatement for this girl. She is up for trick training, but finds that difficult to focus in her foster home with four other dogs. There is always something more exciting than silly tricks. Water is a favorite with this pup, especially after exercise. Bunny loves exploring the lake, running through the water and the mud, flopping down in the wading pool, or chasing the hose. She is quite loving and will happily sit on a lap or on the floor for affection, once her energy and mental needs have been met. Bunny has a nice off switch, settling in with a favorite chew toy or napping. As she approaches bedtime, it is necessary for her to race around the backyard a couple of times to get out the last minute bugs. It takes Bunny a few minutes to warm up to new people and new things in her environment. Once she is comfortable with someone, they will be her friends for life. She is very enthusiastic when greeting people, so would be best for older children. She is being fostered with a mini Aussie, so sometimes doesn’t understand that she is bigger, stronger, and more exuberant than her foster sister. While Bunny is great with other dogs and definitely needs a companion dog. She is not good with cats, finding them to be very rewarding to chase. She is not good with chickens or other small animals, like moles in the garden. Bunny is spayed and up to date on all vaccinations. She is house trained, crate trained, leash trained, and has excellent recall. Dorito is a one year-old, 34 pound male neutered Border Collie, who is currently in a Kansas City area shelter. He was initially a stray in Oklahoma and was transferred to the Kansas City shelter. Dorito loves his people, is a very active and driven boy, and would likely make a great sport prospect. He shows great focus, toy drive and a fantastic tug. While he doesn't always return with the disc, it's simply a matter of teaching him the rules of the game. Dorito enjoys interacting with the other dogs in large playgroups with dogs big and small. It's unknown how he is with cats, however. Dorito is highly alert on walks and if walking too close to a roadway, may lunge after cars, but is easily redirected. He also can be a leash biter but stops when told. Though he’s good with other dogs in playgroups, he will bark and pull, sometimes lunge towards other dogs when out on a walk. The shelter staff describes him as being very treat and toy motivated, Affectionate, Driven, Friendly, Happy Go Lucky, Hyper. He does still jump on people and can be mouthy, especially when trying to get you to play with him. He has shown no aggression. He is neutered, heartworm negative, up-to-date on vaccinations, and on monthly preventatives.
