(DOB 03/23/2025) Maverick earned his name the old-fashioned way—by going on quite the adventure before finding his way to Paws for Life NC!
For months, this handsome guy roamed a neighborhood, making friends wherever he went. Kids? Absolutely! Cats? Yep! Other dogs? His favorite! Adults, however, were a different story. Maverick would approach people, clearly curious and wanting to connect, but he always kept just enough distance between himself and the grown-ups to make sure no one could actually touch him. It was almost as if he was saying, “I really want to trust you… I’m just not quite ready yet.”
And that’s the thing about Maverick—he wants to trust. He just needs someone willing to give him the time and patience to discover that people can be safe.
Maverick absolutely THRIVES with confident dogs and gains so much confidence from having a canine buddy by his side. With time, patience, and a little reassurance from his dog friends, he begins to let his guard down. And once Maverick decides you’re his person, he truly does attach to you.
Underneath that initial fear is a super-sweet, gentle boy who is surprisingly easy to handle. Once he knows you’re okay, he can be handled for just about anything. He isn't difficult—he simply needs someone who understands that trust isn't always instant. Sometimes, it has to be earned one small victory at a time.
Maverick is looking for a very special human: someone who is willing to bet on the underdog. Someone who can look past the nervous first impression and see the hidden gem underneath. Someone who understands that the most rewarding relationships aren't always the ones that happen overnight. He's not looking for long walks. He'd be happiest with a securely fenced yard to run and play in with another dog. He's a very quiet boy and kennels well.
