Meet Scout, a 70-pound bundle of enthusiasm who approaches life like every day is the best day ever. This handsome boy is a male Border Collie mix with a big personality and an even bigger love for adventure. He was found as a stray and no one claimed him. If you’re looking for a dog who’s ready to get out, get moving, and make the most of every moment, Scout is already wagging his tail to meet you.Scout is full of energy and would thrive in an active household where walks, hikes, playtime, and outdoor adventures are part of the daily routine. He’s the kind of dog who wakes up ready to go and can’t wait to see what fun the day will bring.Now, in the spirit of honesty, Scout is still working on his leash manners. He’s strong and can pull when he gets excited, so he’ll need a confident handler who can keep up with his enthusiasm and help guide him in the right direction. With some basic training and consistency, Scout has all the potential to learn the ropes and become a great walking partner. Right now he’s just a little too excited about the world around him to remember his manners.Scout also has a serious interest in the local wildlife population. Squirrels, birds, and anything that scurries tends to grab his attention immediately, which means a home with cats or small furry pets probably isn’t the best match for this curious guy. Compatibility with other dogs is unknown. Compatibility with children is unknown but older children are a better bet. Scout is currently available through our Foster-to-Adopt Program. That means you can welcome him into your home and start bonding right away while he completes his vetting with the shelter veterinarian. His vetting includes neuter surgery, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and a microchip.If you’re ready for a big, fun-loving dog who will keep life exciting and make sure you never skip leg day on your walks, Scout might just be your perfect adventure buddy. Please email dogadoptions@parmashelter.org and fill out an online dog adoption application to meet Scout. Scout’s adoption fee is $160.

Story
Scott is a 6 year old AKA certified border collie looking for an owner that may be interested in training for frizbee or agility. He has endless energy even after his walks and tossing the ball. Scott is a born athlete that is very interested in having a full time job. That said, Scott comes with some behavioral challenges that are becoming overwhelming for his single mom owner. He is an anxious dog who is very much fueled by toys, especially balls and frisbees. He is skittish to some sounds and will bear his teeth or growl when he gets too overstimulated. He is good with other female dogs but not so great with other boys. He is crate trained and has good recall skills and he can catch anything you throw at him. We hate to rehome Scott but feel guilty we cannot provide him with a more enriching life that we know someone else would love to do. Any rehoming fee we receive will be donated to a charity. We just wish to find the right family for him.
