Irwin is a loving companion who has been our constant shadow since the day we first brought him home. He is an active dog who will require a relatively long walk and lots of stimulation in order to be completely calm, but when his needs are met he is truly a wonderful dog to have by your side. He's highly intelligent and loves to learn, and would be great for anyone interested in dog training. He also has shown herding instincts, and might be able to be worked. Despite his high energy, he is easy to own and has never destroyed a single thing in our home when left alone. Unfortunately, Irwin has had some issues with young children - especially when they do not provide him with space. This is a problem for us, as we have a 6 month old child that is getting ready to start exploring the world. While we would love to believe we can keep him and police every interaction, that isn't realistic. He needs a home with adults only, or with children/teens old enough to approach dogs gently.

Elsa is a 5 year 2 month old Border Collie mix weighing 54 pounds who came to the shelter as a stray so her history is unknown. Elsa is a smart, sweet and affectionate girl, you couldn't ask for a more loyal companion! She is very shy with new people, multiple visits to the shelter needed for her to come out of her shell. Once she gets to know you her personality really shines! She is high energy, she loves walks, playing fetch and cuddles with her person. She LOVES playing with balls and is good on a leash. Knows commands sit, shake, laydown & roll over. Her breed needs an active lifestyle such as running, hiking, biking or walking regularly. Her personality is as big as her heart! She came to us with an ear and skin infection, she has been seen and treated by a veterinarian and is currently on Apoquel for suspected allergies which should continue in her new home along with a special diet. She is also on Prozac for her anxiety while here at the shelter, separation anxiety is suspected. She will not thrive in a home where she is left alone for hours at a time. Her adoption fee is $150, this includes her spay, heartworm test, vaccines current, deworming, heartworm/flea prevention and micro chipped. Her dog license is also required to be purchased for Sandusky County residents at time of adoption, which is an additional $20.75. Please visit the shelter to meet her, we show dogs Monday through Friday 1pm-4:30pm and Saturday 1pm-3:30pm. Once you have visited the shelter, you are then eligible to submit an adoption application for review. Please note, we do not offer same day adoptions and there is a $10 non-refundable application fee.Come and meet your new best friend today! The Humane Society of Sandusky County is open Monday -Friday 1pm - 5pm and Saturdays from 1pm - 4pm. Also, be sure to check us out on FaceBook!

Spayed or Neutered,
Meet Willow, the charming 1.5-year-old Border Collie/Bully mix, who holds the title of the longest shelter resident. At first glance, she may be shy, but once she warms up, Willow reveals her friendly and outgoing nature. With boundless energy, she's always ready for adventure and delights in playing with toys. As a natural herder, Willow may exhibit some herding behaviors, adding a touch of uniqueness to her personality. We recommend setting up a meet and greet with your dog before adoption to make sure it's a perfect match.Adoption Fee: $100, includes spay/neuter, and all veterinary care as needed. If interested in meeting, please stop in during open hours, Tuesday-Saturday 12-5:00 pm.
