Story
Our longest-stay resident and heart worm survivor, Smokey, got a foster break during the snow and ice storm—and he is absolutely thriving. In a home setting, he’s doing amazing: housebroken (only one accident the first day), crates easily, sleeps through the night, and is eager to please. He’s super smart and very trainable—one firm “no” is all it takes. He still loves to play like a puppy with toys and rope, then happily settles in for lap time and cuddles. He rides well in the car, sits quickly for treats, and bonds deeply with his people, always watching you to figure out how to make you happy. He’s about 4 years old, around 60 lbs, and truly no trouble at all. After thinking “oh no” about fostering the shelter’s longest resident, his foster says she couldn’t have been more wrong—he’s an absolute gem.❤️ 🌟Cat-free home.

Story
Brownie Border Collie mixes are herding breeds which will try to herd every. Brownie loves to chase water spraying out of hose and the tennis ball. She didn't have positive experiences with humans or little. She wouldn't let me touch her for weeks but now enjoys scratches under her chest and ears. She may still avoid fast movements towards her. Let her come to you. She is leary of being trapped in small spaces like doorways. She likes to keep track of everyone and everything. She has been started on a leash but needs more work. I would suggest a harness. She's extremely smart and figures out patterns quickly. Calm low voices are the best around her avoid high squeaky voice. She's trained to stay in a crate overnight and is good if she can see you. I use the word "kennel" and toss a treat in for her. Positive reinforcement will be key as she learns to trust you. Avoid any physical correction as a sharp verbal, no, she understands. She gets along well with other dogs and has been great in the house. I have been using the word "go potty," and she seems to understand. She has one potientally bad habit you should discourage. She barks at her reflection, even though it's funny at first be sure to stop it or it will become an annoying habit. Feeding schedule 6 am, noon and 6 pm you can probably switch to twice a day soon. Take to your vet within first week and follow continued vaccination requirements. Please ask staff for my contact information.

She can run very fast and can not be caught if she she doesn't want to. She extremely smart and figures out patterns quickly. She will need lots of exercise and supervision. Calm low voices are the best around her avoid high squeaky voice. But in a few weeks she will bond with you and follow you everywhere.
