Story
Zay was found stray wandering around an elementary school in Mendota, CA at approximately 8 weeks old... getting a jump start on her education. She was transported to us, and has become a definite favorite. While she is adored by many, she has yet to find the perfect home. She is high energy and has a habit of jumping and punching you right where it hurts. We cannot stress enough how much she LOVES everyone and everything, but she is still learning that not everyone loves her. She is simply too much for some. Despite being intense, she does submit to other dogs when they put her in her place. Zayna Insane-uh (her nickname) is looking for an active home with another dog who can keep up with her. On the flip-side, she also loves snuggles when she's worn out. She is crate trained. Loves: MUD water toys (any, but stuffies might be the fave!) benebones, kongs, or pupsicles anything with a pulse running FULL SPEED punching your private parts breweries Hates: four feet on the floor anything too clean or tidy slow walkers

Story
Fireweed is a striking young Border Collie who loves romping and wrestling, and spends much of his day exploring the yard, sniffing through the underbrush, and checking in with his people for ear rubs, praise, or treats. Once settled into a new environment, Fireweed has a calm, affectionate side and enjoys simply being near his person. Fireweed is also doing beautifully with house and crate training. He keeps his crate clean overnight, relaxes comfortably in it even with the door open, and rides quietly while crated in the car. He settles best after a good mix of exercise, play, and mental enrichment. This boy is exceptionally quick to learn and thrives on mental challenges and engagement with his handler. An active home committed to continued training would be a wonderful fit. Fireweed is fast, agile, and eager to work, making him an exciting prospect for dog sports. Fireweed would do best in an active home with a yard to romp in, a playful canine companion, and adopters excited to continue building his confidence and channeling his incredible working mind. At Green Dogs Unleashed (GDU), we are dedicated to ensuring the successful placement of our dogs in loving, permanent homes. Over the years, we have seen an increasing number of returns due to behavioral issues that could have been prevented with the right support. A significant percentage of these returns involve out-of-area clients or those who have not completed training with GDU. To address this, positive reinforcement training with Green Dogs Unleashed is required as a condition for all adoptions. Preference for this dog will be given to adopters who commit to signing up for and completing our six-week Canine 101 training class in person at our headquarters in Troy, VA. Secondary consideration will be given to a limited number of out-of-area adopters who agree to complete one private lesson with GDU, either in person or virtually, and attend a pre-approved positive reinforcement training class in their area. At the time you are seeing this post, this dog is still available for adoption. But please know that we may be working on multiple applications already, and any one of them could be approved at any time. Please READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION and complete an adoption application, if you are interested in any of our animals. Application at www.greendogsunleashed.org If you send an inquiry to ask if the dog is still available, or just tell us you are interested, your inquiry will not be answered. FILL OUT AN APPLICATION. We can do NOTHING without that. No, we cannot tell you if he would be a match for your family without seeing an application. PLEASE KEEP READING for info. */*/* PLEASE NOTE: The first communication you will receive after completing an application will be an email response, which will have instructions on how to proceed. Please check your inbox AND spam folders for the next 48 hours, for this email. We will not begin processing an application without the information requested in that email. */*/* We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most dogs. Please read the description to see if this dog is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time. For more information about our mission and for an APPLICATION for adoption, please go to www.greendogsunleashed.com. GDU does ask a minimum adoption fee of $400.00. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum fee includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying, if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well. */*/* Young puppies will receive age-appropriate vaccines, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Adopters may be required to provide additional puppy boosters and at 16 weeks of age, a rabies vaccine. Future annual vaccines, testing and monthly heartworm preventative are REQUIRED, and will be the financial responsibility of the adopter. *****Due to the sheer number of animals and applications in our program, coupled with a limited number of volunteers, applicants MUST have patience as we process applications.   If you do not hear back from us, the animal may have been adopted.   We strive to let people know but sadly cannot offer reasons for denial beyond that.  Any harassment of our volunteers will go unanswered and we will simply block you.   Our volunteers spend their time working hard to ensure the very best for each animal.   Please remember the animal, not the applicant, is our client.*****  ##2744939##

Story
What happens when you put a space cadet in charge of piloting a rocketship? We can tell you: a bundle of joy, energy and lightning loving. That's how Trillium's foster describes her. A year-and-a-half-old blue merle border collie, Trillium came to us without much training but with plenty of exuberance to make up for it! She's a happy, playful pup who likes nothing more than running around and cuddling with her people, especially if there are balls or discs involved. She LOVES toys and gets along with other dogs, but be warned: a passing squirrel will gain her immediate, undivided, and LOUD attention. Trillium picked up 'sit', 'come' and 'down' quickly and is doing well learning 'wait'. She's working on being comfortable on a leash and needs consistent practice with recall and especially with focus. Her herding instincts are most easily soothed when all her people are together in one place. She will bark loudly and relentlessly at strangers, especially when separated from them by a gate or wall, but settles down fairly quickly when shown that they're friends with treats and snuggles. She loves wiggling on her back in the grass or mud but isn't much of a bath fan. Trillium has learned to be comfortable in her crate and runs in immediately at mealtimes, but she will bark for a long time when left alone. Some soothing music seems to help! Trillium is looking for an active home committed to working with her on boundaries and basic manners using positive reinforcement. With a little patience and a lot of love, she will steal your hearts as quickly as she stole ours. Story
Purple Allium is a sweet, mischievous puppy who approaches life with fearless enthusiasm despite being deaf and vision impaired. She’s endlessly curious, always exploring, and somehow manages to find herself in the funniest situations. This clever, busy girl would thrive in a home ready to keep her Border Collie brain engaged with training, enrichment, and adventure. She would likely excel at trick training or scent work, and she already enjoys settle work and learning tactile cues. Purple Allium crates well overnight, rides calmly crated in the car, and is doing beautifully with house training. Affectionate, playful, goofy, and full of confidence, Purple Allium is looking for an active home committed to continuing her positive reinforcement training. Because she explores the world through touch and scent, she can be a little mouthy and overly enthusiastic when excited. She would love a canine buddy and a fenced yard where she can romp, investigate, and keep life entertaining. At Green Dogs Unleashed (GDU), we are dedicated to ensuring the successful placement of our dogs in loving, permanent homes. Over the years, we have seen an increasing number of returns due to behavioral issues that could have been prevented with the right support. Story
Meet Katie — a 6-month-old possible Border Collie mix with puppy energy, a sweet soul, and a playful personality that keeps life fun. At around 30 pounds, she’s the perfect size for adventures, couch cuddles, and supervising the household full-time. Katie was found tied to a tree in a busy area, but despite her rough start, she’s remained incredibly loving and gentle. She can be a little timid when meeting new people, but once she knows she’s safe, she turns into a total affection addict who wants nonstop pets and attention. She loves chew toys, gets along great with other dogs and cats, and has fully embraced her self-appointed role of “cat herding specialist.” Katie is also doing wonderfully with crate training and is already showing how smart and eager to learn she is. Katie is looking for a patient, loving family who will continue helping her build confidence and give her the happy ending she deserves. In return, she’ll provide endless laughs, loyal companionship, and plenty of puppy entertainment.
