Story
🌟 Adoption Spotlight: Meet Koda! 🌟 Say hello to Koda, our handsome and intelligent Border Collie mix! 🐾 Koda is neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, and fully vaccinated with Bordetella, Distemper, Lepto, and Rabies. He’s also on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention — healthy and ready to go! He is around 5 years old. This sweet boy is crate trained and does well with other dogs, though he prefers larger canine friends over smaller ones. Like any Border Collie, he’s got a natural prey drive and a strong desire to run, so a fenced yard and an active home are a must. Koda isn’t suited for livestock work — he’s looking for a companion home where he can use his smarts for play, training, and fun adventures. Koda is extremely intelligent and eager to please. He knows sit, hug, and roll over, and is working on improving his recall. Once he learns something, he doesn’t forget — he’s a fast study and a total people-pleaser! Though shy at first, Koda quickly warms up with patience and kindness. He can be a submissive pee-er, so gentle introductions are best. He’s also a bit of a “perimeter dog” — he loves running the fence lines, exploring his space, and keeping an eye on everything happening around him. Fun fact: Koda has had his name for several years and knows it well, so his future family will need to keep “Koda” or choose something similar like “Kody.” If you’re looking for a bright, loyal, and athletic companion who will keep up with your adventures and make you laugh along the way — Koda might just be your perfect match! 💛 📍 Location: Louisa, VA 📩 Interested? Story
Zay was found stray wandering around an elementary school in Mendota, CA at approximately 8 weeks old... getting a jump start on her education. She was transported to us, and has become a definite favorite. While she is adored by many, she has yet to find the perfect home. She is high energy and has a habit of jumping and punching you right where it hurts. We cannot stress enough how much she LOVES everyone and everything, but she is still learning that not everyone loves her. She is simply too much for some. Despite being intense, she does submit to other dogs when they put her in her place. Zayna Insane-uh (her nickname) is looking for an active home with another dog who can keep up with her. On the flip-side, she also loves snuggles when she's worn out. She is crate trained. Loves: MUD water toys (any, but stuffies might be the fave!) benebones, kongs, or pupsicles anything with a pulse running FULL SPEED punching your private parts breweries Hates: four feet on the floor anything too clean or tidy slow walkers

Story
Six months old and already a full time character, Duke is a sweet and goofy, boy who is still figuring out this whole “indoor dog” thing. He is equal parts derpy explorer and cuddly sidekick, and honestly, it is a very charming combination. Duke is doing great with house training and has only had one accident on his first night in a new foster home. He is currently working on crate training and is already making progress and continues to improve. He may protest a bit at first, but he is learning to settle more quickly each day as he gains confidence. With consistency, he is going to get there. He rides well in the car and is generally up for an adventure. Personality wise, Duke is affectionate, clumsy, curious, and just mischievous enough to keep you on your toes. He has the silkiest head and ears and is happiest when he is getting pets or snacks. He is very food motivated, which will make training both fun and productive. Outdoors, he is fairly calm. Indoors, he is wildly curious. He loves exploring new spaces and will investigate every level of your home, including counters and tables if given the chance. He does well with the small female dogs at his foster home, and has done well with other dogs in previous homes as well. He may need reminders about personal boundaries, especially around food, but he responds to correction. He is non reactive on leash, though it is new to him so continued positive reinforcement to curb enthusiasm will do him well. Duke enjoys snuffle mats and “find it” games with kibble scattered in his crate, so enrichment activities are going to be his jam. He has also shown interest in a flirt pole and would likely love structured play. After some mental stimulation, he is more than ready to settle in for a cozy cuddle session. A lazy Saturday afternoon snuggled up with his person sounds like his dream day. If you are looking for a sweet, slightly goofy, food loving cuddle buddy who will keep you laughing and happily shadowing you around the house, Duke might just be your guy. At Green Dogs Unleashed (GDU), we are dedicated to ensuring the successful placement of our dogs in loving, permanent homes. Over the years, we have seen an increasing number of returns due to behavioral issues that could have been prevented with the right support. A significant percentage of these returns involve out-of-area clients or those who have not completed training with GDU. To address this, positive reinforcement training with Green Dogs Unleashed is required as a condition for all adoptions. Preference for this dog will be given to adopters who commit to signing up for and completing our six-week Canine 101 training class in person at our headquarters in Troy, VA. Secondary consideration will be given to a limited number of out-of-area adopters who agree to complete one private lesson with GDU, either in person or virtually, and attend a pre-approved positive reinforcement training class in their area. At the time you are seeing this post, this dog is still available for adoption. But please know that we may be working on multiple applications already, and any one of them could be approved at any time. Please READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION and complete an adoption application, if you are interested in any of our animals. Application at www.greendogsunleashed.org If you send an inquiry to ask if the dog is still available, or just tell us you are interested, your inquiry will not be answered. FILL OUT AN APPLICATION. We can do NOTHING without that. No, we cannot tell you if he would be a match for your family without seeing an application. PLEASE KEEP READING for info. */*/* PLEASE NOTE: The first communication you will receive after completing an application will be an email response, which will have instructions on how to proceed. Please check your inbox AND spam folders for the next 48 hours, for this email. We will not begin processing an application without the information requested in that email. */*/* We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most dogs. Please read the description to see if this dog is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time. For more information about our mission and for an APPLICATION for adoption, please go to www.greendogsunleashed.com. GDU does ask a minimum adoption fee of $400.00. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum fee includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying, if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well. */*/* Young puppies will receive age-appropriate vaccines, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Adopters may be required to provide additional puppy boosters and at 16 weeks of age, a rabies vaccine. Future annual vaccines, testing and monthly heartworm preventative are REQUIRED, and will be the financial responsibility of the adopter. *****Due to the sheer number of animals and applications in our program, coupled with a limited number of volunteers, applicants MUST have patience as we process applications.   If you do not hear back from us, the animal may have been adopted.   We strive to let people know but sadly cannot offer reasons for denial beyond that.  Any harassment of our volunteers will go unanswered and we will simply block you.   Our volunteers spend their time working hard to ensure the very best for each animal.   Please remember the animal, not the applicant, is our client.*****  ##2655723##

Story
Delta is a 7-month-old Border Collie with a gentle heart and a unique way of experiencing the world. She is both deaf and sight-impaired, but she navigates life with remarkable determination. Delta explores her yard, handles stairs, and learns her surroundings quickly once she feels safe. At heart, Delta is a classic velcro dog. She loves being close to her people and finds comfort in their presence. She may be shy at first, but with calm, gentle introductions she warms up and enjoys new friends. Like any young Border Collie, Delta has energy and curiosity. She enjoys walks where she can sniff the world around her, along with enrichment like frozen Kongs, licky mats, and chew bones. She does well with medium and large dogs and would benefit from a confident canine companion. She has also been respectful around cats in her foster home. Delta is crate trained and continuing to make progress with house training. She will do best in a patient home with someone around much of the time while she continues building confidence and learning that being alone is safe. Delta is incredibly sweet and deeply devoted. With patience, understanding, and positive training, she will be a loyal and loving companion. At Green Dogs Unleashed, we prioritize lifelong success for our dogs. To support this, adopters must commit to positive reinforcement training through GDU. Preference will be given to families who enroll in our six-week Canine 101 class at our Troy, VA headquarters. Limited out-of-area placements may be considered with a private lesson and approved positive training class.
