Story
Benny was found running the streets in a stray dog pack in the Rio Grande Valley. When he first came here, he was fearful around men and could be a bully to new dogs, but he's come a long way since then. Once he gets to know you, he's a sweet, funny, playful dog who wants to be with you as much as possible. Benny was initially cat-aggressive, but he's been around cats for several months and has grown used to them. He mostly ignores them but sometimes chases them. He can be around cats, but should not be left alone with them. (I kennel him when we leave.) Benny gets along well with most female dogs, but he can be dominant towards male dogs. He shows some resource guarding of both food and people and seems to want to "defend" his people from other dogs. That doesn't mean he can't get along with other dogs or other male dogs, but he needs to be introduced to other dogs carefully. The same can be true for introducing him to new people---he needs some time to build trust. Someone who is willing to take time and socialize Benny with other people and animals would be a great adopter. Benny is a great dog who really wants to please. He is loving, affectionate, and playful.

Story
6-9 months, 38 lbs and probably not much bigger. Ideal work-from-home companion, ESA animal or family pet. This sweet girl has an unconditional trust of every human she meets. We found her starving, stinking like skunk and covered in bugs on the side of the road. She came right to us without hesitation. After everything she had been through she is still fully convinced that every human is her new bestie. After a bath, her first meal in weeks and sleeping for two days her personality began to sparkle through. She LOVES to cuddle on the couch and curl up next to a sleeping human, particularly kids. She has a puppy love of chewing but is gentle with her mouth around humans. If an adult is on the computer she is content to curl up on a bed beneath the desk. Around familiar dogs she is playful, submissive and defers to her elders without drama. But she is often intimidated by new dogs and will bark at them. Heartworm positive, will need treatment.

Story
Located in San Antonio Texas Meet Gerti the Border Terrier! She is our newest addition. She was found running the streets with her Dogo Argentino pal. The family that found them spent weeks trying to find their owners with no success. Gerti was not spayed and did not have a microchip. The good new is, she is now spayed, microchipped, and has had all her vaccines! The bad news is, she is heartworm positive. All though we are all very bummed about this she has a fabulous veterinarian that is taking care of her! She has started Gerti on her heartworm treatment protocol and says there is no reason why she can’t find a new home while she is undergoing treatment! Now we just need to find her that perfect place to call home! If you are interested in Gerti let us know.

Story
Quarantine up 5/21 Meet Happy .... and her name couldn’t be more fitting. Happy is a 15-pound bundle of joy, possibly a Pug Terrier mix or Brussels Griffon mix, and we estimate she’s around two years old. She is truly the life of the party! If dogs could apply for jobs, Happy would make the perfect Walmart greeter — she loves everyone she meets and is always full of happiness. This fun-loving girl plays a little rough and tumble, reminding us of a tiny bull in a china shop. Because of her playful energy, she would do best in a home with another dog who enjoys wrestling, romping, and keeping up with her spirited personality. Happy absolutely adores people and has never met a stranger. She was found at the Weslaco shelter in deep South Texas with no collar, no tags, not spayed, not microchipped, and sadly, no one came looking for her. Their loss is truly our gain, because we are beyond grateful to have this sweet, joyful little girl safe with us. Happy is now ready for the loving future she deserves. Happy is located in Hondo, TX and a meet and greet can be scheduled with an approved application. If you’d like to make this sweet dog part of your family, please review our adoption process and complete an application here: https://www.tracyspawsrescue.org/adopt Learn more about our rescue here: https://www.facebook.com/TracysPawsRescue Every dog adopted through Tracy’s Paws receives: • Chagas, heartworm, and tick testing (when age-appropriate) • All core vaccines (age-appropriate) • Heartworm and flea/tick preventatives • Regular Deworming • Spay/neuter surgery • Microchip Breed and age listings are our best guess, based on appearance. Whether you're adopting from us or anywhere in the southern states, please familiarize yourself with Chagas disease. It's endemic in the south.
