Story
Benny was found running the streets in a stray dog pack in the Rio Grande Valley. When he first came here, he was fearful around men and could be a bully to new dogs, but he's come a long way since then. Once he gets to know you, he's a sweet, funny, playful dog who wants to be with you as much as possible. Benny was initially cat-aggressive, but he's been around cats for several months and has grown used to them. He mostly ignores them but sometimes chases them. He can be around cats, but should not be left alone with them. (I kennel him when we leave.) Benny gets along well with most female dogs, but he can be dominant towards male dogs. He shows some resource guarding of both food and people and seems to want to "defend" his people from other dogs. That doesn't mean he can't get along with other dogs or other male dogs, but he needs to be introduced to other dogs carefully. The same can be true for introducing him to new people---he needs some time to build trust. Someone who is willing to take time and socialize Benny with other people and animals would be a great adopter. Benny is a great dog who really wants to please. He is loving, affectionate, and playful.

Story
Located in San Antonio Texas Meet Gerti the Border Terrier! She is our newest addition. She was found running the streets with her Dogo Argentino pal. The family that found them spent weeks trying to find their owners with no success. Gerti was not spayed and did not have a microchip. The good new is, she is now spayed, microchipped, and has had all her vaccines! The bad news is, she is heartworm positive. All though we are all very bummed about this she has a fabulous veterinarian that is taking care of her! She has started Gerti on her heartworm treatment protocol and says there is no reason why she can’t find a new home while she is undergoing treatment! Now we just need to find her that perfect place to call home! If you are interested in Gerti let us know.

Story
I’ll be a rootin’ tootin’ shootin’ darn fool for you! Howdy, the name’s Cowboy! I’ll bet you’re wonderin’ how I wound up here. Well, darlin’, let me tell ya–it’s been a doozy! I was found roamin’ by San Antonio Animal Care Services and the dolls over at SNIPSA gave me a freedom ride over to their facility. They gave me a little southern hospitality, and I’m fixin’ to pass that forward to a forever family. So, ready to hear me out? I am a quiet, but sweet guy with a manageable energy level and a love for stuffy toys. I like to play easygoin’ games of fetch with you and cuddlin’ up after a long day. I also don’t mind the company of other canines or kiddos! Ready to give me the love I’ve been hankerin’ for? Apply to meet me, y’all!

Story
Meet Mia, a 4-year-old Cairn Terrier with a darling underbite and a heart full of love! Weighing in at just 21 pounds, Mia may be small, but her sweet personality fills a room. This affectionate girl absolutely adores being held and will happily cuddle up in your arms or next to you for some quality time. She enjoys the company of other dogs and loves a good play session, making her a great fit for a home with canine companions. Mia is potty trained and will crate up when needed, though she prefers sleeping close enough to hear her family—it helps her feel safe and secure. She’s still getting used to car rides and tends to be a bit nervous during travel, so a patient adopter willing to help her gain confidence on the road is ideal. Bath time isn’t her favorite, but she’s a trooper and will stand still to get the job done. While she’s full of charm, Mia does have a bit of a mischievous streak—she’s quick to dart out an open door, so a secure home environment and a watchful eye are a must. Mia is spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated, heartworm negative, and on monthly preventatives. She’s being fostered in a loving home in Seguin, TX, and is available for adoption only within the state of Texas. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who loves cuddles, playtime, and being near her people, Mia might just be your perfect match. To apply directly for Mia click the "Apply for Adoption" button. https://www.shelterluv.com/embed/animal/FODS-A-661 All our dogs come with 30 days of free post-adoption support through Petcademy.org. This benefit includes free access to Petcademy's team of trainers/behaviorists, as well as access to online materials that will help you settle your new family member into your home. You can text unlimited questions to Petcademy and they'll respnd within 24 hours (Monday-Friday).
