Story
This gentle boy was rescued from a busy DMV site where heavy traffic made it dangerous for a small dog like him to survive. The area is known for large stray dogs, and Nico was especially vulnerable. We don’t know much about his past, but based on his behavior, we believe he was intentionally abandoned. He waited in the same spot every day—for months. A loyal soul, holding out hope for the people who left him behind. Thankfully, one of our amazing volunteers spotted Nico and brought him to safety. He was taken to the vet, received a full check-up, tested negative on his 4DX test, got all his core vaccines, and was neutered. Once Nico started to settle in, the fear in his eyes began to fade—and his sweet, gentle personality started to shine. Nico loves to give hugs and kisses. He’s incredibly patient, gets along well with other dogs, and is very affectionate with the people he bonds with. He’s a quiet little guy who humbly asks for love in return. And yes—he absolutely loves food! 💛 Things to keep in mind: Because Nico was likely abandoned, car rides make him nervous. He must be safely secured in the vehicle, as he tends to crawl or try to jump around. A patient family willing to take things slow will help him get more comfortable over time. We also think he may have been tied up in the past, as he gets anxious when tethered for walks. Slowly introducing short leash sessions in a secure, fenced yard—using a harness—can help build his confidence. He has attempted to escape before, so a tall, secure fence (at least 6’) is a must. Nico would thrive in a home with another small or small-medium dog for companionship. Older, experienced kids (teenagers) would also be a great fit.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Casper (GA) is a male Pit Bull Terrier/Boston/Chihuahua mix (maybe!) estimated to be 5-6 months old at the time of intake in late September 2024. Casper is up to date on core vaccinations (age-appropriate) and is microchipped. He will be neutered prior to joining his forever home unless there is a medical reason why it has not yet been completed (in which case RDR NYC will work with the adopter to ensure this is done at the appropriate time). Casper is good with people, other dogs and even cats. This cute little guy was abandoned at a vet's office and fortunately made his way into our rescue and into our hearts! Casper is friendly and super sweet. If you have room in your heart and home for this beautiful boy, please apply online to adopt Casper (GA) at www.rescuedogsrocknyc.org.Given technical restrictions on this database, this pet's location may not be as listed here. Story
To say I’m mildly obsessed with this petite, feisty full of sass in my pants girl, well, is accurate🙃 She’s a typical small dog who is Deaf but has a large personality. And like most typical smalls, she wants it her way when she wants it, and won’t hear of it any other way. Pixie is one of those dogs who has to make the first move. She will allow petting, kisses, being picked up when she’s ready and she will let you know when that time is. she can be protective of you also She weighs maybe 19 lbs full grown , is selective with other dogs and has the best time when she’s lounging on the couch or her little doggie bed. She’s available for adoption for dog owners who have first-hand experience with behaviors like hers. Once your in though, you’re IN! Spayed and updated with all her shots Please fill out the application on this link https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/POSH/Dog

Story
Hiya, Hula! This dashing dude is a 1-year old, 18-pound Boston Terrier who is the sweetest, most happy-go-lucky pup you’ll ever meet. He is deaf, but that doesn’t stop him from living his best life. Hula adores all living creatures, from kids to adults, and from dogs to cats. Instantly ready to be everyone’s newest best friends, Hula needs no warm-up period at all. Always up for adventure, Hula is the ideal size and age to take anywhere, and he gets bonus points for liking the car! Vroom vroom, let’s go! He enjoys the outdoors, he walks well on a leash, he’s not much of a barker, and he is highly treat-driven. But for a few accidents here and there, Hula is essentially housebroken, as well as pad trained. He’s also comfortable hanging out in his crate when no one is around to supervise him. Hula loves horsing around with other dogs, and shows some interest in doggy toys, but not in an overly obsessive way. When Hula is finished playing, he turns into a complete love bug who likes to cuddle, get belly rubs, and be pet. At mealtime, this young lad has a healthy appetite and relishes every morsel of food you give him. Nom nom nom, more please! Smart and eager to please, Hula is well-mannered and easy to handle. He has been learning hand signals such as walk, eat and no, and he makes excellent eye contact, which serves to enhance communication between himself and his human(s). Hula is, simply put, an amazing little fella, and will be an outstanding companion to whoever is lucky enough to adopt him. If you would like to adopt this wonderful dog, please email rescue@pupstarzrescue.org or visit www.pupstarzrescue.org for an application!

Story
Frankie - 5.5 years old, Mixed Breed - Boston Terrier Mix, 30.1lbs, (needs to lose 3lbs), Spayed  Our Team Says: "Frankie needs to be in a grownup only home. Not a good fit for young kids - okay in a home with respectful older teenagers".  Her Foster Parents Say: "Frankie is a very sweet, clever, well behaved adult female dog. She loves playing fetch and cozying up on the couch. She is potty trained, walks beautifully on a leash, and is without a doubt the chillest dog we've ever fostered! It's clear that she was in a loving home. Frankie is the kind of dog that immediately wins over "cat people" - she's interested in engaging but not demanding of attention or food, and will politely place her toy at your feet or lap to request it be tossed for her. She is great at solving puzzles and learning new commands. Frankie prefers to interact with small, calm, older dogs over larger/energetic ones. She's on a wellness journey of long walks, all-day fetch, and smaller portions to reach her ideal size. She has an endearing snaggletooth and underbite and seems to be part terrier, part boston, 100% lovebug." Level of dog ownership experience needed:INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy Level: MEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.) Cuddle Bug Level Higher -- Loves to be near a lap or at your feet  Potty TrainedYes -- Few or no accidents  Comfy with strangers?  Yep -- Wants to be friends with everyone who walks by, super social butterfly, loves anyone who will stop to say hello.  Comfortable with Children? (ALWAYS requires supervision) Not a great match for a home with kids -- calm teenagers and up is okay, this pup is either mouthy and rambunctious or sensitive and requires either a low key, quiet home or a grownup only home willing do training  Social with Other Dogs? Mostly -- Generally good with other dogs but may be picky (scared of big dogs or plays too rough for small dogs, for example)  Respectful of Other Animals? (cats, small pets, etc.)  Yes -- Seems to get along with other animals, either tries to play with them or is mostly uninterested  Mouthy Behavior? Low – Little to no interest in chewing on stuff or putting things in its mouth that aren’t food. Doesn’t try to chew on hands, feet, etc. during playtime, doesn’t wreck your stuff -- only chews on appropriate things like dog toys and bones.  Leash Manners? Old Pro – Seems like a dog that has been on leash before. Doesn’t pull hard or need much direction.  Okay in the city? Yes -- Seems unfazed by the sights and sounds, they may as well have been born here. Jumping on People to Say Hi? Medium – Jumps up only on people the dog knows when really excited. Stops with correction.  Separation Anxiety? Nope – Completely fine being left home alone. Doesn’t cry or do anything shitty when you leave the apartment or house.  Crate training? Not at all – Don’t even have one, I’ve puppy proofed and we free range.  Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake. She did have a knee surgery to correct her minor patella luxation last year to prevent any future problems down the line. She has no health issues now and her knees are now great: super important for her to not be overweight.  How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Puerto Rico or Southern California. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes.
