Story
Sweet, gentle 35-lb young dog learning how wonderful family life can be. Mariah is just over a year old and was found with her siblings on a farm in rural Virginia. Because she grew up as a rural stray, everyday household life is still new to her—stairs, vacuum cleaners, and busy homes are things she’s only beginning to experience. The lovely thing about Mariah is that she isn’t fearful—she just hasn’t learned about these things yet. She’s an incredibly sweet, gentle, affectionate girl who truly loves people. Petting is still a little new to her, but she’s quickly learning that human attention is pretty wonderful. In foster care she’s already gaining confidence and relaxing more every day. Mariah is great with other dogs, has been around cats, and has been gentle with children thanks to her soft, submissive personality. A calm dog friend could help her continue building confidence. Before rescue, Mariah raised three puppies in a hay barn. All of her babies survived and have already found wonderful homes—now it’s Mariah’s turn. She doesn’t need a perfect home—just a kind one willing to show her how loved dogs live. With patience and encouragement, Mariah will blossom into a deeply loyal companion. 35 lbs • about 1 year old • good with dogs, cats, and kids Mariah is spayed and up-to-date on vaccines. The adoption fee for this dog is $425 which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. PetConnect Rescue cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. Story
Gentle, affectionate 35-lb young dog ready to discover life as someone’s beloved companion. Maura is just over a year old and was found with her siblings on a farm in rural Virginia. Having grown up outside, everyday household life is still new to her—stairs, vacuum cleaners, and the normal rhythms of a home. She isn’t afraid of the world—she simply hasn’t experienced it yet. Maura is an incredibly sweet, soft-natured, affectionate girl who loves people. She’s just beginning to discover that petting and attention are wonderful things, and her confidence grows more each day in foster care. She does beautifully with other dogs, has been around cats, and has been gentle with children. A calm canine companion could help guide her as she continues learning about the world. Before rescue, Maura had puppies in a hay barn. Sadly none survived, but despite that difficult start she remains trusting, loving, and incredibly kind. She doesn’t need a perfect home—just a patient one willing to show her how loved dogs live. In return, you’ll gain a loyal and deeply devoted companion. 35 lbs • about 1 year old • good with dogs, cats, and kids Maura is spayed and up-to-date on vaccines. Story
Our Zanny is NOT for new pet owners or fosters. She is in desperate need of a family that has another high-level, massively energetic young dog already at home who needs a playmate. Having SO much energy to run around (currently, we use a 26’ retractable leash since she’s impossible to catch without one), she needs 4 small meals each day to help maintain her pleasantness. This is working most effectively for her.    She is very quiet with her house-training signals, so you will want to pay close attention to the cues she gives—such as circling and quiet whimpering. She has about an hour of hardcore playtime in the morning where she play-destroys (her favorite hard toys) until her breakfast kicks in & she’s able to calm down.   Zanny does well being kenneled and is accustomed to sleeping in her kennel at night. Her daily vigorousness means that all clothes and shoes, etc. need to be picked up, so that she’s not tempted to drag them around while you’re fighting with her to get them back. Along with the clothes diversion, Zanny is an ankle-biter. No seriously, she’s an ankle-biter. Her foster mom wears tall heavy slicker rain boots when she takes her outside. Fortunately, she is biting less and less when she is distracted with treats for ‘sitting’.    Zanny is a Puggle, which is a breed that needs attention to how much she exercises. She will overplay and overexert herself every single time, and you need to be mindful of that. To help her overcome that intense emotion & the wind being knocked out of her when she reaches the end of the retractable leash…her foster mom has taught her how to come when she calls her name! This one distraction will prevent Zanny from reaching the end too quickly and will instead turn it into a game. Even though this is a new trick, she has 100% perfected it, & it has made ALL of the difference in her quality of play and her demeanor.    Zanny is at her very best when she has finished napping after lunch, when she gives an abundance of kisses and is able to receive quality scratches. She DOES have a limit of how many scratches, but you can get many in before she reminds you :)   Zanny MUST have a house that does NOT have young children or seniors living in it. She will be too much for them. She is perfectly perfect when all of these obstacles have been met, but beyond challenging if you’re not able to meet all of her needs.   Our hope is that Zanny will appreciate and be the very best of friends with your dog, and they will become bonded and she will forever have a place of her own.   Adoption fee: $525, includes all shots, sterilized, heartworm negative, dewormed, flea preventative, microchip   If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application and a representative will get back to you shortly to answer any questions you may have. The adoption policies and applications can be found at the following links: https://fancycats.org/adopt-a-cat and https://fancycats.org/adopt-a-dog. Fosters are like bridges between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save cats and dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters.
