Hi friends! My name is Reaper and I am about 2.5 years old! I am a friendly boy that is excited to find my furever home! I'm a very curious dog so don't expect me to interact right away, I just like to take in my environment which includes smelling all the new smells. I like to play tug the most but watch your arms because I'm not very coordinated and have been known to accidently get people on the arms (no worries I let go right away) I don't have an aggressive bone in my body and don't mind if you take food or toys from me (a bad habit so don't just take things but if its something I'm not supposed to have you are safe to take it from me) I will need to work on my manners but no worries I am highly treat motivated. He is a senior guy looking for a home to spend out the later years of his life with all the comforts that a loving home will provide. Chicken still has a good amount of energy, but at the end of the day, he would simply prefer to curl up in your favorite chair, if you will let him, or a plush dog bed. I came to the shelter after my family had to move and couldn’t take me with them. My story has a few question marks, but what I can tell you is I’m house trained and overall pretty well mannered. I can be shy at first. New places and new people make me pause and take things in. But give me a little time and I warm up into a sweet, loving guy. I’m not chaotic or over the top. I’m calm. I’m observant. I bond deeply once I feel safe. I seem to do well with other dogs. Cats are still unknown, but the shelter will update once they learn more. I’d likely do well with respectful kids. I’m not looking for a loud or overwhelming life. I’m looking for steady. Kind. Consistent. Someone who sees the quiet dogs and understands we love just as deeply, sometimes even more. Feral • Rare Hermaphrodite • Gentle Soul LONGEST SHELTER RESIDENT!!! Intake February 2025. Miles didn’t arrive at our shelter like most dogs. He had to be humanely live-trapped after surviving on his own in the wild- feral, alone, and completely shut down. He never knew a life that involved humans. When he first came to us, he was a ghost of a dog… silently curled into a ball, eating only during the dark hours when no one was watching. He wouldn’t walk. Wouldn’t go outside. Wouldn’t move. He never growled, barked, or showed a single sign of aggression, just fear and total emotional withdrawal. A lifeless shell. We later discovered Miles is a rare hermaphrodite, meaning he has both male and female reproductive anatomy, something we’ve never encountered before! This doesn’t affect his personality or overall health, but it makes him truly one of a kind. We tried every kind of treat you could imagine, but he never showed interest in any of them. It wasn't until offering a McDonald's cheeseburger that we found something he liked. With time, he eventually started eating it from our hand, so gently. That was the first spark of trust. Despite his traumatic beginnings, the turning point came when we introduced him to another dog. For the first time… he played. He acted like a normal dog! Since then, we’ve watched him take brave steps forward. He now greets familiar staff members at the kennel gate and enjoys exploring the play yard with dog friends. He’s curious, gentle, and soaking up this new world of kindness.. one small victory at a time. But Miles still has a long way to go, and he needs the right environment to continue growing.
