Story
Silas is an active boy, kind of goofy. He was born to a litter of 5 in October of 2025 and has been with two of his sisters since then. Dad is a boxer mix and mom is a Jack Russell mix so he is very loyal and loves to play! He is sweet with children, including littles. He loves his chew toys and will chase a ball or frisbee. He is still learning to be on a leash for walks, but doesn't pull, he just likes to wander and explore. He loves to be with his people and although he is crate trained, he can still have accidents if left alone for too long. Silas is super affectionate and cuddly when he calms down. Would be an ideal pup for an active family with children and would love to buddy up with another young dog.

To schedule a time to meet this dog, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org.---- TOTAL cuddle bug who adores doing everything with his humans and has zero personal space - Loves chew toys and car rides - May be vocal around strangers, but warms up quickly to visitors - Knows sit, no, and good boy, and does fantastic on a leash; his foster family said he's also well-behaved in the house- Has been fully potty trained in his foster home; just remember that any dog may need time to get used to a new routine- Can be vocal when left alone, so he may do best in a free-standing home vs. an apartment or other attached-living situation - Has done well with kids in his foster home and adores getting all the pets, but may benefit from a more mature home where all family members are big enough to be OK with the fact that he sometimes doesn't understand personal space- Prefers slow introductions to other dogs, but once he feels comfortable he loves rowdy play; would greatly benefit from a confident dog friend in his new home who can show him the ropes - Has been friendly toward the cats in his foster home and likes to sniff them - Overall a great family dog who will bring lots of joy to his people!The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. To schedule a time to meet this animal, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org.---- Believes in his heart that he's a lap dog; will settle for being as close to you as physically possible when he doesn't quite fit - Can be quite a clumsy, spacey guy but tries his best to please his people in his signature goofy fashion! Currently working very hard on mastering "Sit" - Has been quite friendly meeting new friends in his foster homes. Young kiddos may be a little overwhelming for this guy, so he'd thrive in a mature home with people who understand and respect canine body language (mature home recommended) - Has enjoyed playing with his foster dog sibling, though can be a bit tentative to really get playing with her. He would probably enjoy a dog friend that can let him settle in at his own pace! - Was initially quite scared of the cats in his foster home; has started to show some curiosity but otherwise keeps his distance - Has proven to be house trained in his foster home, though every dog will need some patience as they adjust to a new home's schedule - The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs.
